1 en AIR VOLUME TRANSMITTER / CONTROLLER IML IML air volume transmitter is designed for detecting and controlling air volumes in air handling units and room spaces. Air volumes are calculated by using the differential pressure resulting from the air flow in the duct or in the fan. At least 15 Pa pressure difference is needed for reliable measurement result. The air volume can be measured from: 1. Fans with flow measuring joints. The air flow volume formulas are selectable for following fan manufacturers: Fläkt Woods, Rosenberg, Comefri, Ziehl-Abegg, ebm-papst, Nicotra and Gebhardt. 2. Using traditional air flow sensors like pitot tube, PP air flow probe or iris damper in the ventilation duct. In this case the air flow volume is counted by using the universal formula. Find more information about air volume measuring from the IML user guide. The display shows alternately either air volume or differential pressure or the desired variable can be locked on the display. The variable unit can be selected in the menu during commissioning. The effect of the fast changing pressures resulting from process problems can be eliminated by changing the time constant. The measurement accuracy is guaranteed by using the automatic zero point calibration. With the internal controller functions you can implement variable air volume control or differential pressure control. Variable air volume (VAV) control The VAV control set point can be set in three different ways: By an external 0 10 V signal During commissioning in the menu Via Modbus (IML-M) The internal P/PI-controller controls the 0 10 V output by using the set point and the detected air volume. The 0 10 V controlled damper connected to the controller output keeps the air volume in the set value. By using two IML transmitters and two 0 10 V controlled dampers it is possible to keep the incoming and exhausted air volume in balance. The output signal of the exhausted air volume (output 1) is then used as a set point for the IML that controls incoming air volume (input 1). For balancing the air volumes, there is a balancing coefficient ( %) in the menu. A model IML-M with Modbus communication is available. The IML-M measurements can be read and the settings can be made via Modbus. 2 USER GUIDE IML V ( ) 1 (6) This user guide is for devices with the software version or newer. AIR VOLUME MEASURING The air volume can be measured from: 1. Fans with flow measuring joints. 2. Using traditional air flow sensors like pitot tube, PP air flow probe or iris damper in the ventilation duct. The flow measurement accuracy changes according to the measured pressure difference (see the following figure). The measurement inaccuracy is V error (25 C) + error of the probe. To ensure reliable result, the measurement should be arranged so that the measured pressure difference is at least 15 Pa. With PP probes, the adequate pressure difference is achieved when the air velocity is over 5 m/s. With iris damper, the pressure difference can be calculated by using the formula 2 Q P, where k Q = smallest designed air flow and k = iris damper k value. AIR VOLUME CONTROL Air volumes are regulated by V controlled dampers. Parameters to be set: Defined maximum volume (= nominal volume) Vnom (Vnom = Out1 max) Vmin and corresponding SPmin control signal (percents from Vnom value) Vmax and corresponding SPmax control signal (percents from Vnom value) External set point < 0,3 V always CLOSES the damper External set point > 9,7 V always OPENS the damper (air volume = Vnom) Produal Oy Keltakalliontie 18, Kotka FINLAND Tel: / Fax: info@produal.fi

4 USER GUIDE IML 3 (6) MENU You can proceed in the menu by touching the M and OK buttons. The values can be changed with the + and - buttons. The setting is confirmed with the OK button. The following menu structure contains the factory settings. The settings are saved when exiting the menu. 5 USER GUIDE IML 4 (6) USER MODE As a default, the air volume and differential pressure view scrolls on the display in turns of three seconds. Air volume unit can be selected with the Unit parameter. The air volume or differential pressure view can be selected to view continuously by pressing OK button. You resume to the scrolling view by pressing the OK button again. Set point The internal set point can be set with the + and - buttons. The set point is given as percentage of the selected range (parameters =10V (flow control) and Pa (pressure control)). The setting is confirmed with the OK button. If external set point or set point via Modbus is selected (SP parameter is SPEXT or SPMOD), the effective set point can be viewed by pressing the + or - button. The set point is displayed as percentage of the selected range. RESETTING TO THE FACTORY SETTINGS The device can be reset to the factory settings by simultaneously pressing the M, + and OK buttons for 5 seconds. 8 en AIR VOLUME PROBES PP-PK AND PP-SK The PP air flow volume probes are designed for air flow volume measurement together with the IML air volume transmitter, for example. PP probe is also easy to install to the existing ducts. The probe operates on the pitot tube principle and measures the total (P tot ) and static (P stat ) pressure components of airflow according to the following figure. Air flow direction The measurement is done over several measuring points inside the probe. The number of measurement points depends on the duct size and shape. The IML can determine the average air flow volume on the basis of the measurements. The measuring profile shape makes it possible to make accurate measurements from 1.0 m/s air speeds. The following figure illustrates minimum duct discontinuity point distances. α < 15 Round ducts: D = duct diameter Rectangular ducts: D = 2 x (H x B) / (H + B) H = duct height and B = duct width. If you are installing the probe to over 400 mm wide duct, drill a Ø6 mm hole to the opposite side. 4. Fit the probe to the duct with two screws. Make sure that the duct air flow direction corresponds with the arrow marked on the probe. 5. If you are installing the probe to over 400 mm wide duct, fit the probe other end with a washer and nut. 6. Connect the probe to a measuring device with Ø6/4 mm hoses. 11 FITTING INSTRUCTION PP-PK and PP-SK 3 (5) You can count the duct air volume flow by using the following equation: Q K v P, where Q = air volume flow (l/s) K v = K v value (l/s/pa) P = differential pressure measured by the probe (Pa) The K v value is marked to the PP-PK probes. PP-SK probe K v values are presented in the following table. K v value can be calculated by the following formula: K v [l/s] = 921 x B[m] x (H[m] 0,025[m] x n), where H and B are in meters. The K v value is needed when you connect the PP probe to the IML transmitter, for example.
