5 JESCRIPTION ~ \ Figure 6 Figure 7 twine through the stripper arm slot (2), across the billhook (3), and into the recess in the twine disc. The twine finger (4) has picked up the twine in front of the needle and moved it back into the path of the bill hook. I n figure 7, the bill hook (1) has started to revolve, picking up the two strands of twine. Also, the twine disc (2) has started to rotate downward. In figure 8, the billhook has continued to revolve while the tongue (1) has raised to receive the twine. The twine disc has completed its rotation and the twine is in position to be severed by the knife (2). The needle has begun its downward stroke to position the twine in the next twine disc recess where it will be retained for the next knot. In figure 9, the billhook tongue has closed and the knife has advance, severing both twines (1). The billhook is holding the severed ends of the twine (1). When the loop is stripped off the billhook by the stripper arm flange (2), the knot will be formed. This completes the tying cycle and the knotter is now in position for the next tie. ~I Figure 8 Figure 9 Page 12

6 4. Review the Daily Checklist. 5. When thrower is installed but will not be used, check that bale chute is lowered to drop bale on the ground and that a locking pin is installed on left side of thrower to secure it straight behind the baler. 6. When bale thrower will be used to throw bales, check that bale chute is installed in it's upper location, locking pin is removed to permit thrower to be moved from right to left and that control knob is pulled out and thrower is operating before a bale is made. OPERATING THE BALER To start the baler, engage the tractor PTO system and then increase the engine speed to obtain 540 rpm on the baler PTO shaft. Engage bale thrower when used, then engage the tractor clutch and begin with a slow ground travel speed until the baler is functioning properly and a few bales have been discharged. This will allow the operator to gauge the capacity of the machine in relation to the size of the windrow. Check bale density and set controls accordingly. TRANSPORTING THE BALER To transport the baler, raise the pickup assembly as high as it will go and remove the jack from the tongue and install it on its storage post. The baler tows directly behind the towing vehicle and is only 8-feet, 3-inches wide. Install a slow moving vehicle emblem on rear of cross member of upper density control rail shown in figure 34 for balers without a bale thrower. The bale thrower has a bracket on the left side, shown OPERATION in figure 35, for installation of a slow moving vehicle emblem. Also when transporting the baler with a bale thrower, position the thrower straight behind the bale chamber and install a locking pin on the left side as called out in figure 32. Be sure reflective markings are clean and visible, and be sure safety chain is installed and secured correctly to tractor drawbar support and tongue of baler as shown in figure 33. 7 TROUBLE SHOOTING TROUBLE PROBABLE CAUSE REMEDY Single twine bow knot Insufficient tension on twine holder Insufficient tension on billhook cam. I nsufficient travel of stripper arm past billhook. Dull twine knife Increase spring tension on twine holder. Increase tension on billhook cam. Adjust stripper arm to obtain more travel past bill hook. Sharpen twine knife. Twine cut and/or frayed behind knot Not enough clearance between billhook and inside face of the stripper arm. Twine is damaged approximately 1/2" from knot Rough edges or sharp projection on stripper arm. Twine is damaged approximately 2" from knot Twine fingers pinching twine against bale chamber. Twine is damaged approximately 3" from knot Rough or rusty twine finger. Twine delivered by needle is damaged approximately 3" from knot. Rough bale chamber slot. Twine is damaged approximately 4" from knot. Pointed projection on plunger bent. Twine is damaged approximately 4-1/2" from knot. Adjust stripper arm. Polish stripper arm with emery cloth. Replace spacer in twine finger. Check Adjustment. Polish twine finger with emery cloth. Polish slot with emery cloth. Straighten plunger projections. Sisal twine breaks approximately 2-inches from knot on early balers. Using early style twine finger cam. I nstall new twine finger cam per Extra Equ ipment. Page 61
