Conditions of use The chain elevator CFG20/CFG40 is designed for conveying of grain, seed mixtures and flour. The chain elevator CFG20/CFG40 should only be used for the product(s) specified in the contract. Only an authorised electrician must carry out the connection of power. An equipotential bonding of chain elevator CFG20/CFG40 has to be carried out in accordance with prevailing national provisions. The supply for the chain elevator must be disconnected during installation, maintenance or repair and likewise it has to be secured against re-activation. The manual has to be placed / accessible near by the chain elevator CFG20/CFG40. 6

General information Delivery The chain elevator is packed in separate items. Standard materials for consignment are used (pallets/wooden boxes and grid boxes, etc.). No special considerations should be made concerning transport, except usual care. The delivery consists of the components stated in the order confirmation. Prior to assembly and commissioning, this manual has to be carefully perused. Preservation No special measures have been implemented for long-term storage. After reception, all parts should be stored in a suitable, dry location until installation is carried out. Noise measurement A noise test of the chain elevator has been implemented. The sound level was measured at a distance of 1 metre from the surface of the chain elevator and at a height of 1.6 metres from the floor. The chain elevator was operating without products during the test, as this is the operating condition in which the chain elevator tends to show most noise. The noise level was measured at 70 db. 7

Manufacturer s plate The plate is fixed to the elevator head. Design The chain elevator types CFG20/CFG40 are built-up of standard elements which when combined will easily suit any grain conveying installation. The chain elevators are characterized by large capacities in spite of rather small external dimensions. Both elevators operate equally effective in all positions and compared to their capacities (outputs) they have a low consumption of energy. The chain elevator is made of galvanized steel and consequently the chain elevator is very suitable for outside assembly. Furthermore, it is equipped with a quality roller chain with riveted rubber flights. The chain elevator can be combined for vertical and horizontal conveying by use of side augers in trough. These are operated from the lower shaft of the elevator. Consequently the same motor draws the elevator and the side auger. Alternatively, the side auger can be drawn separately by a directly connected geared motor. The side auger in trough is available for both the right and left side of the elevator. The augers have a diameter of 135 mm with rises of S60, S90 or S125. They are available in lengths of 2.0 m m. 1.0 m. 0,5 m. The chain elevator consists of: Elevator head. Elevator boot. 2.5 m extension with inspection cover. Chain with rubber carriers. Extensions from m. to 2.5 m. Outlet. Motor. Extra inlet is available for the downward side. 8

Assembly guide Check the foundation and the conveying direction (location of inlet and outlet) prior to start of assembly. It is essential to carefully peruse the entire manual prior to start of mounting / assembly. Check that sufficient space is available. Remember! Prior to assembly, the necessary safety equipment for the mounting has to be put into operation such as safety gloves, safety boots, safety helmet, safety glasses and maybe a lifeline. None of these parts are included in the standard delivery. The elevator is assembled into two parts; a lower and an upper part: The lower part consists of the elevator boot, 2.5 m. extension of elevator with inspection cover (used for the assembly of the chain) and elevator extensions equal to the half height of the elevator. The upper part consists of the elevator head and the remaining number of extensions and is to be assembled with the chain (see special section on page 36) see to it that the overlapping plate is turned downwards. The extension with inspection cover is to be mounted on the elevator boot. The extension section with the inspection cover in the return duct has to point downwards. After the assembly of the lower as well as the upper part, these two parts have to be assembled. 26

Sealing It is essential to joint all joints with joint filler in order to prevent any dust release or moisture penetration at flange joints. The joint is placed on the flange within the holes. After jointing, the joints have to be bolted together. 27

Lower part of the elevator The elevator boot is located and fastened to the foundation. Check the vertical and horizontal position of the boot prior to continued assembly. Now the extensions are to be assembled. Remember that the overlapping plate has to point downwards. 28

Upper part of the elevator If possible, the upper part of the elevator is assembled on the floor. Extensions are mounted onto the elevator head, equal to half of the total height of the elevator. The chain with rubber flights is to be mounted after mounting of extensions (see the description in the section Elevator chain ). 29

Important! It is essential to mount a tube of minimum 850 mm. or some other type of an access lock at in- and outlets in order to prevent you from putring your arm into the machine. 850 mm. tube end or access lock 30

Chain elevator with auger in trough Propellers, propellers with shaft or propellers with shaft and disengagement are fittes on the lower shaft of the elevator, and side augers (if any) are fitted on these. Take care to mount propellers and augers on the correct side for bringing the material towards the elevator. The cover over the augers and covers plates of the troughs under the elevator har to be fitted over the augers and securely fastened. Pos. 33 Motor and V-belt pulley drive Motor and gear are to be mounted on the drive shaft (see below drawing). The motor can be mounted parallel to or transverse to the machine. Important! The vent screw of the gear must always be mounted in the upper position. Maintenance of motor and gear; see the supplier s documentation, included in the delivery. 33

Mounting the V-belt pulley drive is done by starting with fastening the motor bracket and mounting the internal V-belt guard. The small pulley is pushed on the motor shaft and secured with a centre screw. The motor is mounted loosely on the motor bracket with four motor bolts, and the hook bolt and the tensioning bolt with a nut is fastned on the motor bracket. The largge pulley is pushed on the elevator head shaft and fastned with a centre screw (remember the woodruff key). The motor is displaced in the oblong holes of the motor bracket until the V-belt pulleys are placed parallel and then the motor bolts are tightned. the motor bracket is moved towards the elevator by loosening the tensioning bolt, then the V-belts are mounted. Tighten the belt by adjusting the tensioning bolt, and finally the extenal V-belt guard is mounted. The belt tension is correct when it is possible to press down the belt mm (see drawing). Important! The belt must be tightened after the first 24 operating hours or otherwise it has to be tightened according to the Maintenance Survey. Note! Tools must not be used to force the V-belt on the pulleys. 34

Elevator extensions The elevator extension with the inspection cover must be mounted in the elevator boot so that there will still be sufficient space for assembly of chain, as this has to take place through the opening/cover of the extension. Now the extensions are mounted in accordance with the layout drawing. The elevator has continuously to be fastened during the mounting; see section Vertical fastening. Elevator chain The elevator chain is mounted with rubber flights. The chain has to be mounted in the elevator prior to the lifting up of the elevator head with extensions (see figure). The chain is assembled with the chain joints included in the delivery, after having lowered the upper part of the elevator incl. chain into the lower part. 35

If there is no space available for doing so, the chain is to be passed through the outlet of the elevator head (see below figure). The whole chain is lowered into the onward duct. Turn half of the chain into the return duct with half of the chain hanging in each duct. Block the chain with a rope and draw one end of the chain around the lower chain wheel and lift it up to the inspection cover. Check the length of the chain. (The tensioning bolts of the elevator head must be loosened). If the chain is to be shortened, it may be separated by using a slender chisel. Join the chain ends (use only new split pins in the joining links). The chain is tightened with the tensioning bolts of the elevator head, leaving a tolerance of a few millimetres at the lower chain wheel. 36

Important! When mounting and tightening chains on machines with bends, the distance between the flights must always be identical (pos. A) and there must always be a flight on every fourth chain link. 37

Assembly of the elevator It is essential to use correct and certified SWL-lifting gears for the assembly of the elevator. Likewise, the section On receipt should be perused prior to start of the assembly of the elevator in question. Prior to lift of elevator, the chain must be locked e.g. with a rope. The locking device is removed prior to assembly. Having mounted the upper and lower parts of the elevator, the chain is to be joined by way of the chain joint (see drawing). Important! Remember to re-mount all inspection covers after finishing the assembly. 38

Equipotential bonding Equipotential bonding has to be carried out according to prevailing provisions. The elevator head has a mark, which indicates, where to carry out the equipotential bonding. The implementation of the equipotential bonding is important in order to ensure that the machine is metallically connected. The mark states, where the chain elevator has to be potentially equalized. Equipotential bonding 39

Vertical fastening It is essential to fasten the elevator vertically in order to ensure that it cannot turn over. The maximum distance from the top of the elevator head to the upper fastening is 2.0 metres and as a maximum 4 metres between subsequent fixings. The angles of the wires must as a minimum be 45 from the elevator, and there shall be 90 between the wires (see the below figure). Pos. Text CFG20 Kg. CFG40 Kg. 1 Wire thimble for 8 mm. wire Wire lock for 8 mm. wire Wire 8 mm. (weight each metre) Wire strainer for 8 mm. wire

Commissioning Prior to commissioning of the chain elevator the following points have to be controlled: Take steps to ensure that all inspection covers have been mounted. Take steps to ensure that nobody is working in/on/at the machine. Take steps to ensure that the rotating direction of the motor is correct. Take steps to ensure that all bolts of the elevator have been mounted and tightened. Take steps to ensure that the chain is mounted and adjusted correctly. Check the fastening/stability of the chain elevator. After commissioning, check that all joints are sealed. In case of V-belt drives - check correct tightening of the V-belt. Fault location in case of elevator stop If the elevator stops - first check whether the elevator may be restarted when the relay has cooled down. If so the fault may be either too low a setting of the relay or an under powered motor. If the elevator cannot be restarted without the material being removed, check whether the return pipe on the elevator (i.e. the pipe in which the chain runs downwards) is filled with material in the lower part (open inspection cover). If this is the case the fault is either jamming of the outlet from the elevator (too small outlet pipes or incorrect drop of these) or blocking of the further conveying system. 41

Maintenance Please see the maintenance survey of intervals for cleaning and maintenance as well as the enclosed subsupplier s documentation. Warning! The power supply of the chain elevator must be disconnected during cleaning and maintenance work and likewise, ensured against inadvertently restart. Take steps to ensure that inspection covers and safety guards are re-mounted prior to commissioning. Geared motor Check the gear in accordance with the enclosed documentation of the subsupplier. Important! Check that the vent screw is mounted in the upper position of the gear. Motor Noise of bearings of motor; see the enclosed subsupplier s documentation. Inspection of motor; see the enclosed subsupplier s documentation. The motor must be retightened in accordance with the maintenance survey. As for procedure, please see the assembly guide. Sets of belt pulleys Check the belt tension in accordance with the intervals stated in the Maintenance Survey. If cracks are found on the sides of the belt, it must be changed. Note! New belts should not be used in sets of old belts. 42

Elevator chain Check that the chain is tightened correctly. Tighten the chain by way of the two 12-mm. bolts at the top of the elevator head. See drawing for correct tensioning. See intervals for inspection as stated in the maintenance survey. Rubber flights Replace defect or worn rubber flights. See the maintenance survey. Bearings Check the bearings for dammage and lubricate the bearings according to the maintenance survey. The check of the bearings is done by lifting the shaft and feeling if there is any play. Take care that water is not present at the bottom of the grain pit - it spoils the bearings in the elevator boot. Lubrication of bearings Important! It is essential to lubricate with the correct quantity of grease, as too much grease will spoil the sealing of the bearing and cause leaks and consequent superheating of the bearing in question. Check the quantity (gram) of grease of each touch of your grease gun. 43

Elevatorhead The 2 bearings of the elevator head have to be greased with 3.0 gram grease in accordance with the maintenance survey. Elevator boot Check the 2 bearings of the elevator boot and repair, if necessary, after 8000 hours of operation. Leaks Any leaks, which may occur, must be repaired immediately. Abnormal sounds and vibrations Stop the chain elevator immediately and identify the source of error. 44

Disposal Disposal has to take place in accordance with prevailing, national provisions. Warning! The power supply of the motor must be disconnected during disassembly. The simplest method in order to disassemble the elevator is, if the space so allows, to separate it on the floor in the reverse order as described in the assembly guide. If the elevator is to be dismantled in position, the motor is to be dismantled at the gear motor. In case of V-belt drives, the V-belt is to be dismantled at first and then the motor must be loosened, followed by the large belt pulley and the V-belt covering. The easiest way to remove the chain is to separate the joining link at the bottom of the elevator and then draw out the chain through the lower inspection cover. Loosen motor frame and elevator head. Finally, all extensions are to be disassembled. The elevator contains at lot of material, which can be recycled. All metal parts ought to be delivered to a metal recycling factory. 45
