3 Vallorbe Swiss : expertise, experience and service The history of the Usines Métallurgiques de Vallorbe (UMV) dates to the end of the nineteenth century when three file manufacturing companies in Vallorbe, Switzerland decided to combine their activities. These three companies, orloz & Noguet-orloz, Grobet S and Glardon & Company merged on 28 March 1899 to form UMV. UMV is renowned and respected as the world s leading manufacturer of precision files and round chain saw files. In the 1950 s UMV began a diversification programme to include the design, development and manufacture of metal milling cutters. The company has continued its steady development and to adapt its products to the needs of users. It has invested heavily in its production facilities and internal organization in order to win new market share. The company s manufacturing facilities in Vallorbe produce nearly 4 million tools monthly, which are used on a daily basis throughout the world by a wide range of professionals. Even though they may not know each other, all of these professionals have one thing in common: a Vallorbe Swiss precision tool. The company s files, milling tools, saw blades and etching tools are manufactured by nearly 300 employees whose expertise has been passed down from generation to generation, and are marketed throughout the world in 100 different countries through a distribution network of more than 300 agents and distributors. The reputation of Vallorbe Swiss products is founded on unparalleled technical expertise that begins with the in-house development and fabrication of the company s production tools. The company has approximately 20,000 sq. m of production shops currently equipped with more than a thousand machines. 6 Valtitan : the solution for the most challenging materials Surface hardness of HRc 72 makes this the hardest steel file in the world. Valtitan improves chip flow. Highly resistant in corrosive or humid environments with no need for protective lubrication. Enhanced performance and service life especially with abrasive materials. Thermal barrier protects file teeth from de-hardening. Valtitan coated products (shown with yellow tang in the catalogue) are primarily used in the eronautical industry (ideal for titanium and aluminium), for working plastics, tool & jewelry making. 6
