1 1 BLAST AND BALLISTIC PROTECTION OVERVIEW Wer wolf MKII Modular Mine Protected Vehicle The Wer wolf MKII MPV pictured above was blast tested with the equivalent of nine antitank mines detonated next to and under the vehicle in four separate detonations. The picture shows the vehicle after it was field repaired by two technicians within hours of the last test. The vehicle was fully functional and the hull integrity was 100% intact. Replacement axles were used to repair the damage, but the exact same parabolic springs and suspension components were used throughout all of the tests. The replaced axles were all repairable. 2 2 The Wer wolf MKII MPV provides protection for the crew and on-board equipment against: All known anti personnel mines. A double anti-tank mine (14 kg of TNT ) detonated anywhere centrally under the hull. A triple anti-tank mine (21 kg of TNT ) detonated under any wheel. An IED explosion comprising 14 kg of TNT laced with 500 grams of shrapnel detonated from a 3 metres standoff distance from any of the vehicle sides. Protection is provided against EFP type mines such as the TMRP-6 through the addition of an optional composite armour belly plate. Because of its high power to weight ratio, extremely low centre of gravity and versatile tractive effort selection, the Wer wolf MKII does not suffer any significant mobility degradation through the addition of the belly plate. The vehicle remains field repairable after detonations. Typical repair time is around 2-4 hours for 2 trained Technicians using no more than the tools and equipment carried in a typical Light Field Workshop or 2 nd Line Light Workshop Troop. This is made possible by the modular design of the driveline components, which facilitate controlled or sacrificial fracture and rapid replacement configuration. The automotive design is also ruggedized to military standards, which results typically in the engine starting and running with the first crank after detonation of a double anti-tank mine centrally under the front axle. BLAST TEST RESULTS: The following photographic collage demonstrates the mine resistant capabilities of the Wer wolf MKII MPV as trailed and tested. This vehicle received a double anti-tank mine hit directly under the front axle. Vertical lift was no more than 500mm in the front. The blast crater had a diameter of 2 metres and was 1 metre deep. 2

The axle centre portion was damaged, but repairable and the wheel was blown off with the hub intact.

The vehicle was field repaired within 4 hours by 2 technicians and thereafter driven back to base. Field repair comprised front axle replacement only. The power pack and driveline suffered no damage at all. 3

Both wheel assemblies blew off in identical fashion and both were undamaged. Not even the tyres were damaged. The particular tyre shown in the adjacent picture was re-fitted to the vehicle after it completed extensive gruelling mobility trials. No penetrations occurred and the vehicle was started and driven out of the kill zone. 4

5 5 Pictured above is the rear portion of a vehicle hull that was tested with 3 separate blasts. The 1st blast comprised a double anti-tank mine detonated centrally and midway between the transfer case and rear axle. The 2nd blast comprised a double anti-tank mine detonated 3 metres from the vehicle side. The 3 rd blast comprised a triple anti-tank mine detonated under the right rear wheel. The hull survived all these blasts 100% intact, the vehicle was field repaired after every detonation whereafter it completed extensive mobility trials. BALLISTIC PROTECTION SPECIFICATION: 5

6 6 Wer wolf MKII MPV provides all-round ballistic protection against: 7,62 x 51mm NATO Ball rounds. 7,62 x 39mm Russian AK47 Ball rounds. 5,56 x 45mm NATO SS109 Ball rounds. Artillery and mortar shrapnel. Protection is provided from a point blank range of 10 metres. The protection envelope includes all the windows, vehicle hull, vehicle roof, engine compartment and the radiator grill. Protection is provided against single shot or burst fire, as seen in the LMG Burst picture above. 6

7 7 The windows are included in the protection envelope, including protection against multiple hits. CONCLUSION: In conclusion we can state without fear of contradiction that the Wer wolf MKII MPV offers the best mine and ballistic protection available on wheeled vehicles in series production today. Wer wolf was more extensively blast tested than any other vehicle we know of and it survived all of the tests with astonishing ease. The Wer wolf design embodies a real life learning curve of more than 2 decades of operational exposure to countering mine threats. Its superior protection is the result of hard earned practical solutions. 7
