7 THOR > TRANSFORMATIVE TECHNOLOGY TRANSFORMATIVE TECHNOLOGY Building on more than thirty years of mortar innovation, Saab s thinking edge continues to drive solutions that maximise mortar round efficiency. At the core of this offering is MAPAM (Mortar Anti-Personnel Anti-Material), the most efficient fragmentation technology on the market. Today this cutting-edge technology has been taken to the next level with the introduction of the all-new THOR 120 mm mortar round. Traditional airburst mortar rounds fitted with a proximity fuze disperse fragments in nearly every direction. This decreases the mortar s lethality as over 50 percent of the fragments are scattered upwards. THOR is here to change the landscape of mortar munitions with a unique design combining different shapes, materials and fragmentation sizes to attain the desired effect on target. Being able to choose the style of fragmentation not only delivers tailored lethality, but also control of fragment velocity. 2

With almost twice the target area effect compared to a conventional 120 mm mortar round, THOR also delivers fragment loss reduction of up to percent. This doubles the effectiveness of the mortar, making THOR a viable short range alternative to heavy artillery. This gives your forces a much higher chance of neutralising and even destroying targets that would normally require heavier support. Without the increased risk of collateral damage that comes with the use of artillery.
