Final Assembly Instructions Casco Bay Cruiser Thank you for buying your new bicycle from L.L.Bean. Read these instructions carefully before beginning the final assembly.

However, for shipping purposes we have to partially disassemble your bicycle. Although this bicycle has been factory pre-assembled, some loosening may have occurred during shipping and handling.

1 Final Assembly Instructions Casco Bay Cruiser Thank you for buying your new bicycle from L.L.Bean. Read these instructions carefully before beginning the final assembly. Prior to shipping, our expert cycling technicians completely assembled and tuned your bicycle to ensure that all components are functioning properly. However, for shipping purposes we have to partially disassemble your bicycle. Although this bicycle has been factory pre-assembled, some loosening may have occurred during shipping and handling. WARNING: BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO RIDE THIS BICYCLE, read the enclosed Owner s Manual thoroughly. The Owner s Manual includes important information on customizing your bike for an optimal fit. Tools required for final assembly: Cutting-type pliers for removal of packaging materials, including zip-ties 5mm & 6mm hex wrenches for tightening stem bolt & handlebar clamp 14mm wrench or adjustable wrench for tightening seat clamp 13mm wrench or adjustable wrench for tightening seat post clamp 15mm wrench or adjustable wrench for tightening pedals and axle nuts Phillips head screwdriver for tightening reflectors BEFORE GETTING STARTED: PLEASE REMOVE BICYCLE FROM BOX AND REMOVE PACKAGING MATERIAL. Recommended tool diagonal cutting pliers, wire cutter, heavy duty shears, or multi-tool wire cutter. FYI - Your bicycle may appear different from those in photos. pg.1

2 1. INSTALL HANDLEBAR AND STEM Required tool 6mm hex wrench The front wheel has been removed, and the fork may have been reversed for shipping. If you find the curve of the fork facing toward the frame, spin the fork 180 degrees. In the proper position, the ends of the fork will curve away from the frame (1-A). Fork must curve away from the frame as seen here. Head tube Correct fork position Fork 1-A If there is a protective plastic cap on the end of the stem, remove and discard it before inserting the end of the stem into the head tube. Insert stem into the head tube (1-C). You may need to loosen the stem bolt slightly (1-B). Snug the stem bolt. Instructions for proper alignment will be given later. Tighten and loosen the stem bolt with a 6mm hex wrench. Turn clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen. 1-B Stem bolt head Stem Minimum insertion line 1-C The stem bolt works by drawing this wedged piece up until it locks the stem in place. 2. FRONT WHEEL INSTALLATION Required tool 15mm wrench or adjustable wrench Loosen the outer silver nut on each side of the wheel axle enough for axle to fit into the fork dropouts (2-A) with a silver

Position the wheel axle between the fork blades so that the axle seats firmly at the top of the fork dropouts (2-A). With a 15mm wrench or adjustable wrench, tighten the outer silver nuts.

To rotate to the correct position use a 5mm hex wrench to loosen the handlebar clamp bolts (3-B). Rotate the handlebar so that the grip portion of the bar is parallel to the ground (3-A).

FRONT WHEEL INSTALLATION Required tool 15mm wrench or adjustable wrench Loosen the outer silver nut on each side of the wheel axle enough for axle to fit into the fork dropouts (2-A) with a silver nut and washer on the outside of the fork on each side (2-B). The inner darker colored nuts should not be adjusted. Center the wheel in the fork. Position the wheel axle between the fork blades so that the axle seats firmly at the top of the fork dropouts (2-A). With a 15mm wrench or adjustable wrench, tighten the outer silver nuts. Fork dropouts 2-A 2-B Silver nut and washer on the outside of the fork 3. HANDLEBAR AND STEM ALIGNMENT Tools required 6mm and 5mm hex wrenches The handlebar has been rotated on the stem for shipping. To rotate to the correct position use a 5mm hex wrench to loosen the handlebar clamp bolts (3-B). Rotate the handlebar so that the grip portion of the bar is parallel to the ground (3-A). Tighten the handlebar clamp bolts firmly. Stem Bolt Handlebar clamp bolts 3-A 3-B The handlebar should be aligned square to the tire, if not, slightly loosen the stem bolt (3-B) with a 6mm hex wrench, adjust square and retighten (3-B). Tighten the stem bolt firmly. To check tightness, brace front wheel between your knees, then try to turn the handlebar left and right. The stem should not move. REMEMBER, the stem may be raised or lowered for comfort, but it should never be raised above the Minimum insertion line embossed on the lower portion of the stem (1-C). pg.3

4. INSTALL PEDALS Required tool 15mm open-end wrench, or adjustable wrench CAUTION: The right pedal has right-hand threads and must be installed in the right

The left pedal has left-hand threads and must be installed in the left crankarm, tightening in a counter-clockwise direction (4-C).

INSTALL PEDALS Required tool 15mm open-end wrench, or adjustable wrench CAUTION: The right pedal has right-hand threads and must be installed in the right crankarm, tightening in a clockwise direction (4-B). The left pedal has left-hand threads and must be installed in the left crankarm, tightening in a counter-clockwise direction (4-C). To avoid cross-threading, carefully start and tighten pedals by hand. Then tighten securely with a 15mm wrench. 4-A 4-B 4-C Pedals are marked L and R on their spindles. Insert right pedal into right crankarm and turn clockwise. Insert left pedal into left crankarm and turn counterclockwise. 5. ATTACHMENT OF SADDLE TO SEATPOST Required tools 13mm and 14mm wrenches or adjustable wrench With a 14mm wrench or adjustable wrench, slightly loosen the bolt on each side of the seat clamp (5-A). Rotate the seat post (5-A) away from the seat. Use a 13mm wrench or an adjustable wrench to loosen the bolt on the seat post clamp (5- B). Insert the seat post into the seat tube (5-B) and snug the bolt on the seat post clamp. Adjust the seat on the seat post so that the seat is parallel to the ground and firmly tighten the bolt on each side of the seat clamp (5-A). 6. SADDLE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT Required tool 13mm wrench or adjustable wrench WARNING: The seatpost may be raised or lowered for comfort, but it should never be raised above the minimum insertion line

6-B 6-C To determine proper saddle height, position right pedal at the bottom of its revolution, aligned with the seat tube. While sitting on saddle, place your heel on right pedal.

This should result in the correct bend at the knee (6-C). Generally, you do not want to raise your saddle higher than determined by this method.

However, if while riding your bicycle, this position doesn t feel comfortable to you, adjust as necessary. 7.

SADDLE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT Required tool 13mm wrench or adjustable wrench WARNING: The seatpost may be raised or lowered for comfort, but it should never be raised above the minimum insertion line embossed into the seatpost. 6-A To raise or lower seatpost, loosen and tighten the 13mm bolt. 6-B 6-C To determine proper saddle height, position right pedal at the bottom of its revolution, aligned with the seat tube. While sitting on saddle, place your heel on right pedal. Your leg should be fully extended (6-B). Adjust saddle height if necessary and repeat. Now place the ball of your foot directly over the center of the pedal (normal riding position). This should result in the correct bend at the knee (6-C). Generally, you do not want to raise your saddle higher than determined by this method. If you have to rock your hips to reach the bottom of the pedal stroke, then your saddle is too high. However, if while riding your bicycle, this position doesn t feel comfortable to you, adjust as necessary. 7. ATTACH REFLECTORS Required tool Phillips head screwdriver To install the rear reflector (red), remove the reflector mounting screw and gently open the bracket enough to slide over the seatpost. Position the reflector facing to the rear and secure with the screw (7-A). Use care not to over-tighten as the bracket may crack. 7-A 7-B To install the front reflector (white), remove the reflector mounting screw and gently open the bracket enough to slide over the handlebar on the left side of the stem (7-B). Position the reflector perpendicular to the ground and secure with the screw. Use care not to over-tighten as the bracket may crack. NOTE: For additional maintenance and safety tips, be sure to read your Owner s Manual thoroughly. pg.5
