Developed from the CRF 450 RX Enduro by RedMoto, the new bike was designed to give the rider a smooth usable engine and an extremely stable chassis that connects the rider to the terrain with great rear wheel traction. The CRF400RX features top-spec Showa suspension, PGM-FI and EMSB (Engine Mode Select Button) with ad hoc mapping. Introduction The new Honda CRF 400RX Enduro is aimed at the hobby-rider who wants to get the best from the seventh-generation aluminium beam frame and the new torquey 413cc engine. The all new CRF400RX Enduro is a middle displacement bike that lets the hobby rider ride for a whole weekend without getting too tired, helps him in the most difficult situations and maximises the pleasure of riding. That doesn t make the CRF400RX Enduro any slower than the CRX450RX of which it maintains the speed and the unrivaled handling.

Model Overview The 18YM CRF400RX Enduro has been developed from the wheels up based on direct input from Enduro GP World Championship teams to satisfy the needs of the hobby-rider as well as the pro-racer, who can get the most out of it even in the most technical enduro stage. Both front and rear suspension are identical to those of the 450 model, with specific Enduro settings. It uses an enduro-standard 18in rear wheel and sidestand and 7.3L fuel tank are also added for practicality and extended range. Electric start is fitted as standard. The CRF400RX s PGM-FI ignition timing map produces soft power and torque delivery to aid traction and feel in awkward conditions. The EMSB (Engine Mode Select Button) provides the rider with 3 distinct choices: Mode 1 (Aggressive) delivers the power in the most aggressive, responsive way for the faster trails, Mode 2 (Soft) equals all-round smooth performance for slippery areas, and Mode 3 (Supersoft) gives the most easy-to-manage throttle feel for the most extreme riding. 3. Key Features 3.1 Engine The CRF400RX Enduro s 413cc engine offers a progressive, usable power and torque delivery throughout the range that is a trademark of Honda s CRF engines. Compression ratio is set at 13.0:1 with bore and stroke of 92mm x 62.1mm. A four-valve Unicam cylinder head, with a finger rocker arm on the inlet valves, gives inlet valve lift of 10mm; exhaust valve lift is 8.8mm. Inlet valve diameter is 38mm and 2-way valve seat machining smooths gas flow. The downdraught intake provides a direct, straight shot to the inlet ports. The valve springs are oval in cross section, reducing height to allow for more compact head dimensions. Narrow valve angles of 9 intake and 10.5 exhaust, plus a flat-topped piston, boost combustion efficiency. A 4-hole piston oil jet reduces piston temperature and deals effectively with the increased temperatures generated by the high compression ratio. Both the piston pin and finger rocker arms have a DLC coating (Diamond-like Carbon), which has excellent abrasive resistance and durability, while also reducing frictional losses The engine uses a scavenge pump to distribute oil for both transmission and clutch, reducing friction, improving lubrication efficiency and reducing pumping losses. Oil capacity is 1250cc with one sump storing oil for engine, clutch and gearbox. The compact clutch spins 7 friction disks and the 6 centre plates feature a special surface friction material. A 2mm clutch plate dissipates heat efficiently while judder springs generate a good connection feeling on the clutch. There is a five ratios gearbox and the final drive is handled by 13 and 51-tooth sprockets. The ratios speed to improve the ease of use in all conditions.

3 The standard-fitment final drive chain is of the O-Ring chain to improve reliability and performance in the most demanding conditions. The rider controls and displays are rationalised together and sited on the left handlebar; EFI warning, plus EMSB mode button with LED indicator. The engine start button for the standard-fitment electric starter, fundamental for the amateur enduro rider as it makes restarting a stalled engine much easier, especially on tracks with rocky, uneven surfaces is on the right handlebar. The new heavy duty hand guards are light and their innovative design guarantees maximum protection. Honda s EMSB puts instant engine character adaptability at the rider s command. With the machine stopped, and engine at idle, a simple press and hold of the button for just under a second selects the next map in sequence. The LED built into the button signals the map in use with a quick press and number of subsequent flashes (1 flash for Mode 1, etc). If a new map is selected the choice is also confirmed to the rider.

4 Mode 1 (Aggressive) delivers the power in the most responsive way. Mode 2 (Soft) tones down engine performance (especially useful for a tired rider or slippery tracks) while Mode 3 (Supersoft) is even less responsive and more linear, making the engine s power much more usable in a wide range of extreme conditions like the ever more present extreme test trails. To complete the standard equipment, the CRF 400RX Enduro has a useful radiators protection kit and the electric fan. 3.2 Chassis The CRF400RX Enduro uses the seventh generation CRF aluminium beam frame of the 450RX to take the maximum possible advantage of the engine s performance. Tapered main spars offer the perfect mix of lateral stiffness and torsional stiffness, to improve turning ability and feel. The extruded rear subframe helps lower the overall weight. The wheelbase of the seventh generation chassis of the CRF400RX Enduro 2018 is 1477mm. Distance between the front wheel axle and swingarm pivot is 913mm, with distance from swingarm pivot to rear axle only 564mm. This geometry with a lower C of G transfers more weight to the rear wheel for outstanding traction, a key aspect of the development of the RX Enduro. Rake and trail are set at 27.4 /117mm. Total wet weight (including 7.3 liter of fuel) is 116,2kg. A new strong skid plate helps protect the frame from accidental hits, to further increase the CRF400RX Enduro reliability.

5 The CRF400RX Enduro is a slim, compact machine that s easy to manage thanks to the low centre of gravity. Its rear tyre is loaded hard to dig for drive, matching the front end s grip level and feel for traction at the limit. And Honda s enduro machine is equipped with a fully adjustable 49mm Showa USD coil spring fork based the Showa factory fork used in the Enduro World Championship. The cylinder features a 25mm diameter, with a 14mm rod and 39mm compression piston. It is effectively a race-spec suspension yet it is comfortable and easy to use even for the hobby-rider. The fully adjustable Showa rear shock is mounted low and on the centre-line of the machine for optimal mass centralisation and high-speed stability. Its spring rate is 52N/mm. The swingarm is 599mm long. A 260mm wave-pattern front disc delivers effective heat dissipation, power and feel from the two-piston brake caliper working it; a matching 240mm wave-pattern disc and single-piston caliper is at the rear. Lightweight aluminium rims, with directly attached spoke pattern layout reduce unsprung weight; the front is 21 x 1.6in, the rear 18 x 2.15in. Fitted as standard equipment are the Enduro World Cup, Metzeler Six Days Extreme tyres: 90/90-21 front and 140/80-18 rear. The CRF400RX Enduro equips a plastic 7,3L tank. A larger tank kit (including tank, fuel cap and air scoop) to increase range is available at a favorable price. New plastics with smooth external lines help the rider move easily around the machine and the machine s narrow frontal area is is identical to that of its cross sibling. The front mudguard directs an efficient funnel of air to the radiator. The standard digital speedometer with integrated hour counter is a reliable and very useful tool to keep track of the distances and to plan an appropriate maintenance schedule. The CRF400RX Enduro has full electrics that include full LED headlights and indicators to improve visibility and reduce consumption. Headlights and indicator design is modern and aggressive. A beautiful bike, the CRF400RX Enduro has a lean bodywork that uses durable Works Replica graphics that cover a wide area with scratch resistant style. The new sturdy back mudguard has an integrated support for the registration plate, that also increases the resistance to the hits, typical of heavy off road use. The Exhaust system is characterised by the beautiful carbon fiber muffler caps. The forged aluminium sidestand tucks high out of the way and attaches to the frame at the left footpeg mount via a stainless steel bracket. As always, homologation to be road legal, and the relative set up with lights, mirrors, indicators and plate holder, are handled by RedMoto S.r.l., Honda Motor Europe Ltd Italia partner for CRF range distribution in Italy.
