Adjust strap until it is snug. No more than two fingers should fit between the strap and your chin. A proper fitting helmet should be comfortable and not rock forward/backward or side to side. Like bicycling, skateboarding, and in-line skating, riding a scooter can be dangerous even under the best of circumstances. We do not want you to get hurt. Please follow these safety rules. This symbol is important. It is the WARNIN symbol. The warning symbol precedes safety instructions. Make sure the rider understands these instructions. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury to the rider or to others, or damage to the product. WARNINS TO AVOI SRIOUS INJURY: eneral: Adults must assist children with assembly and all adjustments. Adult must supervise a child using the scooter. This product should only be used by persons 8+ years. Maximum weight is 200 lbs (91 kg). rake will get hot from continuous use. o not touch after braking. o not perform stunts or jumps with the product. This can result in injury to the rider and damage to the unit. o not attach a motor to the scooter. Not suitable for children under 36 months as foam pieces may break off causing a choking hazard. Protective equipment: Protective equipment should be worn. Always wear a properly fitted PS or ANSI approved helmet when riding the scooter and keep the chinstrap securely fastened. Wear equipment such as helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and gloves. o not ride without shoes. o not ride wearing anything that obstructs visibility or hearing. Usage Warnings: Not to be used in traffic. Ride on smooth paved surfaces away from motor vehicles. Not for use on roads. Limited Warranty Your purchase includes the following limited warranty, which is in lieu of all other express warranties. This warranty is extended to the initial purchaser only. Warranty registration is not required. This warranty gives you specifi c legal rights: you may have other rights, which vary from state to state. The scooter and its component parts are under warranty to be free from faulty materials and workmanship from the date of the original purchase as follows: Frame/Fork: six months lectronics: 90 days Wheels: 90 days All other parts - six months All parts are subject to the onditions of Warranty below. See included list for ustomer ontact information. onditions Of Warranty It is the responsibility of the original consumer to ensure all parts included in the factory sealed carton are properly installed and that all functional parts are working properly. This scooter has been designed for general transportation and recreational use. This warranty shall become immediately null and void if you do any of the following: Rent the scooter; sell the scooter; give away the scooter; or, use scooter in ways confl icting with warnings. The user assumes all risk of personal injuries, damage to, or failure of the scooter and any other losses if the scooter is altered in any way or if the scooter is used for stunt riding, ramp jumping, acrobatics or similar activities, or is towed by another person or vehicle. Any of the foregoing will invalidate this warranty. This warranty does not cover ordinary wear and tear, damage caused by improper storage of the scooter, shipping damage, damage caused either accidentally or deliberately by you or another, and damage caused as a result of using the scooter other than for its intended purpose. 2 11
3 Maintenance WARNIN: Inspect the unit frequently. Failure to inspect the unit and to make repairs or adjustments, as necessary, can result in injury to the rider or to others. Make sure all parts are correctly assembled and adjusted as written in this manual and any Special Instructions. Immediately replace any damaged, missing, or badly worn parts. Make sure all fasteners are correctly tightened as written in this manual and any Special Instructions. Parts that are not tight enough can be lost or operate poorly. Over tightened parts can be damaged. Make sure any replacement fasteners are the correct size and type. Periodic cleaning will prolong the useful life of this scooter. NOT: Have a bicycle service shop make any repairs or adjustments for which you do not have the correct tools or if the instructions in this manual or any Special Instructions are not sufficient for you. Inspection of the earings Frequently check the bearings of the scooter. Lubricate the bearings once a year or any time they do not pass the following tests: Head Tube earings The fork should turn freely and smoothly at all times. With the front wheel off the ground, you should not be able to move the fork up, down, or side-to-side in the head tube. Wheel earings NOT: The front wheel bearing is sealed and does not require lubrication. Lift the front end of the scooter off the ground and slowly spin the raised wheel by hand: The wheel should spin freely and easily. There should be no side-to-side movement at the wheel edge when you push it to the side with light force. Scooter Safety Information - continued o not ride at night, dusk, or at times of limited visibility. Never ride with more than one person. Avoid sharp bumps, drainage grates, and sudden surface changes. Scooter may suddenly stop. Avoid streets and surfaces with water, sand, gravel, dirt, leaves, and other debris. Wet weather impairs traction, braking and visibility. Avoid excessive speed associated with downhill rides. It may be difficult to stop or maneuver quickly. Maximum recommended speed is 6 MPH (10 KPH). Obey all local traffic and scooter riding laws and regulations. Watch out for pedestrians. o not ride on steep hills, uneven sidewalks or near steps. o not push or pull Scooter with another vehicle. Practice: Practice riding in large, flat areas. Know your limits. e familiar with your scooter and your abilities. Use common sense. Use with caution, since it requires great skill, so as to avoid falls or collisions causing injury to the user or third parties. efore ach Ride: heck and secure all fasteners. heck operation of the brake. Replace worn or broken parts immediately. heck handlebar hand grip or tube end plugs. These should be replaced if damaged as bare tubes have been known to cause injury. All products with capped handlebar ends should be checked regularly to ensure that adequate protection for the ends of the handlebars are in place. 4 Introduction NOTS: Some illustrations may vary slightly from the actual product. Follow instructions completely. If the product has any parts that are not described in this manual, look for separate Special Instructions that are supplied with the unit. Models may have different accessory items such as bags, baskets, cup holders, etc. All features, components and accessories are not included on all models. Please read through this entire manual before beginning assembly or maintenance. If you are not confi dent with assembling this unit, refer to a local bike shop. Operating The Scooter WARNIN: HOKIN HAZAR. Small parts. Not for children under 3 years. Adult assembly is required. o not dispose of the carton and packaging until you complete the assembly of the bicycle. This can prevent accidentally discarding parts of the product. Tools Needed The scooter is operated by placing one foot on the deck and pushing with the other foot. Small Adjustable Wrench (Jaws must open at least 9/16 inch.) Open-end Wrenches On some models the rear fender is hinged for use as a brake (see above). On other models where the rear fender is not hinged, the foot used to propel the scooter is also used to stop the scooter. This is also the secondary brake method for models with hinged fender. Steer just as you would a bicycle: by turning the handlebars in the direction you want to go, and by leaning slightly into the turn. 5 Handlebar Assembly Parts View A Steps: 1. Insert Handlebar (A) into Steering Tube () so that all screw holes line up. 2. Insert Screw Sets () into holes and tighten securely. 3. Place lamp () onto bottom of Steer Tube so that it is even with the bottom edge. 4. Put the assembled Handlebar over Fork Tube Threads () so that Steer Tube and lamp sit against Headset Nut (F). 5. nsure that Screws () and Steer Tube Slot (H) both face backward as shown. 6. nsure Handlebar is aligned with Front Wheel and that Fork is pointing forward as shown. 7. 6 Rear Wheel Assembly Front Wheel Assembly F H J F Steps: I H NOT: Remove and discard Packing ones (A). NSUR ushings () remain in Wheel (). 1. nsure ushings () are fully installed in Wheel () with longer ends facing OUTwards as shown. 2. Place one Washer () and one Nut () onto one end of Axle (F). 3. Place inside wheel cover halves (H) over Wheel ushings (). 4. Fit Wheel assembly into Frame () so that ushing holes line up with Axle holes. 5. Insert Axle through Frame and Wheel assembly. 6. Install other Washer () and Nut () onto Axle. 7. nsure Inside overs (H) do not pinch against wheel ushings (). 8. Tighten both Nuts securely. nsure Wheel spins freely. 9. Install 2 wheel cover sides (I) using 4 Screws (J) each side. WARNIN: The nylon locking nuts () must be fully engaged on the thread to ensure wheel does not come loose from the axle. A Steps: A NOT: Wheel may have a floating bushing inside that must be aligned before inserting Axle (A). 1. With Axle (A) inserted through Wheel (), place a ushing () on each side of Axle as shown. 1. Place Wheel/Axle Assembly into Fork ropouts (). 2. Install Safety Washers () onto Axle so that Washer Tabs fit into Fork ropout Holes (F). 3. Install Axle Nuts () securely. Recommended torque is 21 ft.-lbs. 4. nsure Wheel spins freely. WARNIN: The nylon locking nuts () must be fully engaged on the thread to ensure wheel does not come loose from the axle. 6 7
