8 Modern superbikes use very steep head angles, short wheelbases and very powerful engines. By their very nature this will make them inclined to tank slap, regardless of frame or suspension design. In more recent years the bike manufacturers are beginning to fit steering dampers as Original Equipment but rather like OE shock absorbers they are mostly poor quality, nonadjustable, inexpensive items which can be vastly improved upon. 10 162 Shock Absorbers Matris shock absorbers combine outstanding performance with exquisite engineering product design and value for money. Manufactured in the Italy to the highest quality, Matris shock absorbers are available in three different formats. The KD single damping adjustment is for Road use, the K or two way damping adjustment is for Road and Track use and the R or three way damping adjustment is for Road, Track and Race use. The design is based around a 46mm diameter piston with a 16mm diameter piston rod. The KD single adjustment shock is intended principally as a road shock. It uses a single damping adjuster to make it very easy for a road rider to get the right set up for their own personal use. It also has spring preload adjustment and in most cases ride height adjustment. Many are also available with the addition of the Hydraulic Preload Adjuster. 12 Shock Absorbers The R three way adjustable shock is intended primarily for race and track use with specifications the same as the two way adjustable shock, except with the addition of independently adjustable hi and low speed compression damping. It is ride height adjustable and is fitted with a Hydraulic preload adjuster as standard. 18 Matris Fork Conversions Original equipment motorcycle forks are by their very nature a compromise. They are set up by the manufacturer for the average rider of average weight and ability riding on the average road! Unfortunately, since people, their weight, riding ability and the roads and tracks they ride upon are not average this means that the forks and their settings are always wrong and can be vastly improved upon. Manufactured in the Italy to the highest quality, Matris fork conversion kits are designed to improve upon the original equipment and can be set up much more accurately for each individual rider. Depending upon specification, this means they will improve upon both the springing and damping effects making the forks more precise, more adjustable, easier to use and ultimately better in every regard. 19 controls Complete Cartridge Kits Many motorcycles come fitted with adjustable forks as original equipment. The problem is that like many original equipment components they are usually cheap, lower quality items. The reason for this is simple. The bike manufacturer has to bring a product to market that is price competitive with other manufacturers and they are only able to do that if they cut their costs as far as is possible. Whilst they describe the original equipment fork as adjustable and you can indeed move the adjusters, if you put the fork on a suspension dyno you can see that those adjustments are making almost no difference at all! How many times have you been fiddling with the adjusters and can t seem to make any difference, better or worse? You probably thought it was just you but actually it was the original equipment parts that were to blame. Matris cartridge kits are the answer and they are available in several formats. F12 kits These are complete kits to replace all the original fork internals. Both the 20mm (F12S) and 25mm (F12R) versions use a 12mm pumping rod and compression and rebound pistons machined from aluminium billet, with its own dedicated shim stack and supported by oiless slide bearings. The Spring preload, rebound and compression adjusters all adjust with specific clicks and the kit includes, springs, valve set for compression adjustment (where provided for by the original) and oil. The difference to the original items is like night and day. Each adjustment makes a specific click that allows you to know exactly where you have set the adjusters and most important of all, each click actually makes a difference to the damping and you can feel it!! Hallelujah! F15K Complete Cartridge kits for NON ADJUSTABLE forks!!! This is a complete hydraulic fork cartridge kit that completely replaces all the OEM fork internals to modify a conventional non-adjustable fork into a fully adjustable fork with spring preload, rebound and compression damping.
