1. Aim High In Steering 15 seconds 6 seconds Demonstrate eye lead time consistently in excess of 15 seconds Adjust Eye Lead Time distances to speed
1. Aim High In Steering Keep eyes properly elevated around turns and corners
2. Get The Big Picture 6-8 Seconds following distance Maintain proper following distance Proper following distance provides: Stopping distance Reaction time Increased visibility Additional time to make decision(s)
2. Get The Big Picture Manage your own space Don t let other drivers control your space
3. Keep Your Eyes Moving Scan mirrors every 5-8 seconds Avoid fixed stares
4. Leave Yourself An Out When stopped leave appropriate space in front of vehicle

Remember the 5 keys Key 1 AIM HIGH IN STEERING Look ahead a minimum of 15 seconds Key 2 GET THE BIG PICTURE 6-8 second minimum following distance Key 3 KEEP YOUR EYES MOVING Scan mirrors every 5-8 seconds Avoid focusing on one object for more than 2 seconds Key 4 LEAVE YOURSELF AN OUT Surround yourself with space Key 5 MAKE SURE THEY SEE YOU Eye Contact
USE OF THE 5 KEYS PROVIDES SPACE for the vehicle VISIBILITY for the driver TIME to make decisions
Backing Try to avoid backing, however if you must back up ALWAYS use a ground guide
Safe Driving Tips An Armored Truck isn t the Family Vehicle A fully loaded Armored truck traveling at 60 MPH on dry pavement may take up to the length of a football field to stop. Snow and rain add additional length.
Tires Versus Shoes The tires on an Armored truck have the contact equivalent to a shoe print of a large size man s shoe. Each tire has a footprint of 7.5 x 9 on the ground.
Prevent Friction Rollovers When the speed of a truck increases and the direction of the front tires are changed, the truck has a desire to rotate around the tire in a circular motion. If the speed is great enough and the turn is sharp enough, a Friction Rollover will occur.

Crash Review In Heavy Rain and high wind conditions our truck Driver was travelling approximately 55 mph when the truck hit a stretch of water causing the truck to hydroplane. Driver lost control of the truck, which turned to the right hydroplaning on the right side of the freeway and then flipped over on it's right side.
