Your new ire changer is he resul of over 25 years of coninuous research, esing and developmen and is he mos echnically advanced ire changer on he marke oday. The manner in which you care for and mainain your ire changer will have a direc effec on i s overall performance and longeviy. However, equipmen does no ake he place of safe operaing pracices. Always wear durable work clohing during ire service aciviy. Shop aprons or shop coas may also be worn, however loose fiing clohing should be avoided. Tigh fiing leaher gloves are recommended o proec operaors hands when handling worn ires and wheels. Surdy leaher work shoes wih seel oes and oil resisan soles should be used by ire service personnel o help preven injury in ypical shop aciviies. Eye proecion is essenial during ire service aciviy. Safey glasses wih side shields, goggles, or face shields are accepable. Back bels provide suppor during lifing aciviies and are also helpful in providing operaor proecion. Consideraion should also be given o he use of hearing proecion if ire service aciviy is performed in an enclosed area, or if noise levels are high. 3

5 IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 1. READ AND UNDERSTAND all safey warning procedures before operaing uni. 2. KEEP HANDS AND FEET CLEAR. Remove hands and fee from any moving pars. 3. KEEP WORK AREA CLEAN. Cluered work areas invie injuries. 4. Consider work area environmen. Do no expose equipmen o rain. DO NOT use in damp or we locaions. Keep area well lighed. 5. ONLY TRAINED OPERATORS should operae his equipmen. All non-rained personnel should be kep away from work area. Never le non-rained personnel come in conac wih, or operae machine. 6. USE MACHINE CORRECTLY. Use machine in he proper manner. Never use adapers oher han wha is approved by he manufacurer. 13. MAINTAIN WITH CARE. Keep uni clean for beer and safe performance. Follow manual for proper lubricaion and mainenance insrucions. Keep conrol pedals and/or buons dry, clean and free from grease and oil. 14. STAY ALERT. Wach wha you are doing. Use common sense. Be aware. 15. CHECK FOR DAMAGED PARTS. Check for condiion of all moving pars, breakage of pars or any condiion ha may affec he machines operaion. Do no use if any componen is broken or damaged. 16. NEVER remove safey relaed componens or device from he machine. Do no use if safey relaed componens are damaged or missing. 17. To reduce fire hazard, keep engine/ moor exerior free of oil, solven, or excessive grease. 18. Unreadable and missing warning labels mus be replaced immediaely. Do no use he ire changer if one or more labels are missing. Do no add any objec ha could preven he operaor from seeing he labels. 7. DO NOT override or disable safey valves and/or devices. 8. ALWAYS INSURE ha he arm lock is engaged before any aemp is made o service wheels and/or ires. 9. DRESS PROPERLY. Non-skid seel-oe foowear is recommended when operaing machine. 10. GUARD AGAINST ELECTRIC SHOCK. This equipmen mus be grounded while in use o proec he operaor from elecric shock. Never connec he green power cord wire o a live erminal. This is for ground only. 11. DANGER! The moor on his machine conains high volage. Disconnec power a he recepacle before performing any elecrical repairs. Secure plug so ha i canno be accidenally plugged in during service. 12. WARNING! RISK OF EXPLOSION. This equipmen has inernal arcing or sparking pars which should no be exposed o flammable vapors. This machine should no be locaed in a recessed area or below floor level. 5

6 INTRODUCTION The R26FLT is shipped on a palle. Approximae shipping dimensions are shown below. Using a crow bar or pry bar, locae he saple/nail/ab locaions and pry off he boom par he box. NOTE: The enire box can be lifed off afer prying he saples/nails/abs a he base of he caron. Handling of he machine mus be performed only wih an appropriae lifing device such as a forklif or palle jack. Only personnel who are experienced and qualified on maerial handling procedures should handle any ransporaion or moving of machine. Remove he Conrol Pod, Sliding Carriage. Grease Gun and Tire Irons from he palle and se aside. NOTE: The Conrol pod is connec o he Power Conrol Box via a cable. NOTE: The Sliding Carriage should be aached afer he Tire Changer is in he proper operaing locaion and wired correcly. Open he Tool Sorage Box, remove and invenory he Accessories UNCRATING INSTRUCTIONS Be careful when cuing seel/plasic banding maerial as iems may become loose and fall causing personal harm or injury. Always wear gloves when uncraing he machine o preven scraches, abrasions, or cus due o he conac wih packing maerials. Eye proecion is essenial during uncraing service aciviy. 9 INSTALLATION AND ASSEMBLY Do no lif or move uni wihou appropriaely raed equipmen. Be sure he uni is securely aached o lifing device used. Transporing / Moving The R26FLT ire changer has a lifing ring which has been posiioned specifically for moving he machine. Before aemping o ranspor he machine, follow hese insrucions: Do no lif uni by holding ono arms, carriage or oher non-approved lifing areas. Never use he wood shipping skid for mouning he uni. Choose a safe locaion ha is in compliance wih curren work place safey regulaions. Failure o properly insall he machine can lead o improper and unsafe operaion. Machine size is approximaely: 75 w x 60 l x 28 h (1905mm w x 1524mm l x 711mm h) Recommended minimum work area disance from walls as shown in he diagram. 1) Make sure he horizonal chuck arm (2) is compleely lowered. 2) Make sure he chuck jaws (3) are closed. 3) Bring he sliding able (4) all he way lef owards he horizonal chuck arm. 4) Inser a lifing hook and cable wih a minimum lifing capaciy of 1500-pounds (680 kgs.) around he lifing ring (15). Make sure he cable is of sufficien lengh o properly clear he ire changer when handling. These measuremens are he ire changers working range. Persons oher han specially rained and auhorized operaors are expressly forbidden o ener his area. 5) Take precauion o keep rack of he cable connecing he Conrol Pod while moving he Tire Changer. 6) Lif only wih an approved capaciy lifing ruck or approved devise ha is capable of safely handling he load. 9

10 Wiring Insrucions Ensure ha he roaion direcion of he pump is he same as indicaed by he arrow on he moor cover. If no, conac Ranger Cusomer Service. Wiring should be performed by a cerified elecrician only. Disconnec, ag and lock ou power source before aemping o insall, service, relocae or perform any mainenance. 1. Check he volage, phase and proper amperage requiremens for he moor shown on he moor plae. Wiring should be performed by a cerified elecrician only. Overheaing, shor circuis and fire damage will resul from inadequae wiring. Wiring mus be insalled in accordance wih Naional Elecric Code and local codes and sandards covering elecrical apparaus and wiring. Anchoring I is no essenial o anchor he machine o he floor, however, he floor mus be smooh and level and permi he plaform rollers o move freely. When anchoring o a concree floor use he mouning holes ha are provided in he frame. Make sure he machine is solid and level and suppored evenly on all anchor poins. Solid shims may be used if necessary. Be cerain ha adequae wire sizes are used, and ha: Service is of adequae amp raing. The supply line has he same elecrical characerisics (volage, cycles and phase) as he moor. The line wire is he proper size and ha no oher equipmen is operaed from he same line. Moor Roaion Check Once he machine is hooked-up, urn he machine on using he on/off swich. 10

11 SLIDING TRAY ASSEMBLY Using he Conrol Pod slide he Horizonal Chuck Arm o he Righ and Turn off he power. (See page 13) Remove he hree bols, hen posiion he Sliding Tray and ighen he hree bols, washers and lock washers. KEEP THIS MANUAL NEAR THE MACHINE AND CONSULT IT AS NEEDED DURING OPERATION. 12 TIRE AND WHEEL SERVICE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Only properly rained personnel should service ires and wheels on he R26FLT. Read all safey and operaing insrucions horoughly before use. The following safey insrucions are for one piece wheels only. Always refer o he manufacurer s procedures for muli-piece wheels. Always wear durable personal proecive work clohing and safey gear during ire service aciviy. Refer o page hree for Operaor Proecive Equipmen. ALWAYS remove all wheel weighs and he valve core o deflae he ire before servicing. ALWAYS keep all working surfaces clean and free of debris. ALWAYS be aware of wha each person is doing and will do before aemping any wo-person operaion. ALWAYS cover he elecric moor and elecrical componens before cleaning he ire changer. Be sure waer or cleaner does no ener he moor or elecrical componens or come in conac wih elecrical connecions. ALWAYS disconnec he elecric power and air supply before aemping any mainenance. Bead Loosening NEVER place anyhing beween he bead loosener disc and he ire/wheel. NEVER allow he bead loosener disc o conac he wheel or wheel damage may occur. NEVER place any par of your body beween he bead loosener disc and he ire/wheel, severe bodily injury may resul. NEVER moun a ire on a damaged or rusy wheel as ire or wheel failure may resul during inflaion. Explosion from failure may resul in severe injury or deah of he operaor and bysanders. Inflaion ALWAYS be sure he bead opposie he ool is in he drop cener before roaing he ire when demouning or mouning o avoid damage o he ire beads. NEVER sea beads or inflae a ire on he ire changer. The R26FLT is no designed as a safey device or sand for bead seaing or inflaion. ALWAYS follow all applicable Local, Sae, and Federal Codes, Rules, and Regulaions; such as he Federal OSHA Sandard Number ALWAYS use an approved inflaion chamber or inflaion cage equipped wih a self-gripping chuck and remoe inflaion gauge and valve. ALWAYS inflae he ire o manufacurer s recommended cold operaing pressure. DO NOT OVER INFLATE! Tire or wheel failure during and afer inflaion may resul in an explosion capable of causing severe injury or deah. NEVER reinflae a ire ha has been run under inflaed or fla wihou firs demouning he ire and checking for wheel and ire damage. ALWAYS inspec he ire inerior for loose or broken cords, cus, peneraing objecs, and oher damage. Discard ires ha canno be properly repaired. NEVER rework, weld, hea or braze wheels. NEVER srike he ire or wheel wih a hammer. ALWAYS be sure he ire diameer exacly maches he wheel diameer. Demouning & Mouning ALWAYS clean and inspec he wheel prior o any service. NEVER sand on he sliding carriage, frame or work able while demouning or mouning a ire. ALWAYS keep hands, fee, and oher objecs away from moving pars while he machine is urned on. ALWAYS place he narrow bead sea o he ouside when clamping. Failure o demoun he ire from he narrow bead sea side may cause damage o he ire beads. ALWAYS apply an approved rubber lubrican o rim flanges and boh ire beads before demouning or mouning and seaing he beads. 12 Tire failure under pressure can be hazardous. Always place wheels inside an approved inflaion chamber or cage before inflaing. Use an approved remoe inflaion valve, hose, and gauge. ALWAYS wear safey goggles for eye proecion. Do no sand beside he wheel or cage during inflaion. Keep hands and oher pars of he body ou of he cage during inflaion. Observe he ire pressure frequenly. Do no exceed he manufacurer s recommended maximum inflaion pressure. Failure o follow hese insrucions may cause he ire and rim o separae wih remendous force, resuling in serious personal injury or deah.

13 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Conrols The mobile conrol enables he operaor o work a any posiion around he machine. Before operaing he machine ensure ha you horoughly undersand he operaion and funcion of all conrols. 1. To urn he machine on, roae he ON/OFF swich o he ON posiion. The he running ligh will illuminae and pump moor will sar running and will remain in operaion unil he machine is urned off. The power required is minimum when he hydraulic cylinders are no in use. When opening he chuck ensure ha he jaws do no conac or hi oher pars of he machine. NOTE: All he conrols are very sensiive and small movemens of he machine can be done wih precision. Demouning and Mouning Before mouning a ire on a rim, pay aenion o he following: The rim and all of is pars mus be clean and in good condiion. 2. Press he chuck roaion pedal (8) o he righ: The chuck will roae clockwise. Press o he lef and he chuck roaes counerclockwise. Remove all wheel-weighs, including ape weighs inside he rim. The ire mus be clean and dry, wihou any damage o he bead, sidewalls or read area(s). Replace he rubber valve sem or o-ring wih a new one. If he ire requires a ube or a flap, make sure he ube is dry and in good condiion. Lubricaion is necessary o moun he ire correcly and ge a proper cenering. Be sure and use an approved lubrican only. Make sure he ire is he correc size for he rim. 3. Move he joysick conrol (5) o posiion A and he horizonal chuck arm will move upward. Move he joysick conrol (5) o posiion B and he horizonal chuck arm will move downward. 4. Move he joysick conrol (5) o posiion C and he sliding carriage will move lef. Move he joysick conrol (5) o posiion D and he sliding carriage will move righ. Locking / Mouning The Wheel 1. Take he mobile conrol uni o a comforable working posiion clear of moving componens. 2. Place he ool-holder arm (10) ino he uprigh posiion. 3. Operaing from he mobile conrol, move he sliding able (9) away from he self-cenering chuck and place he wheel in verical posiion on he sliding able. 5. Move he swich (7) upward and he self-cenering chuck jaws will open. Move he swich (7) downward and he selfcenering chuck jaws will close. Ensure ha he horizonal arm is fully raised prior o roaion of he self-cenering chuck. Before lifing he ool holder arm be sure ha nobody is sanding in he operaional area or areas of danger. 13

14 6. Slowly coninue moving he sliding carriage and able lef unil he cener of he wheel posiions over he closed self-cenering chuck jaws. 7. Operae he chuck swich (7) o open he self-cenering chuck and lock ono he inside of he wheel using he approved mouning illusraions shown below making sure he drop cener of he rim (when i exiss) is kep owards he ouside of he jaws. The drop cener of he rim (when i exiss) mus be kep owards he ouside of he machine. If he wheel is heavy, always be sure o use a suiable exernal lifing device (i.e. fork lif, crane ec.). Always pracice workplace safey. Back bels provide suppor during lifing aciviies and are also helpful in providing operaor proecion. 4. Coninuing o operae from he mobile conrol, lif or lower he horizonal arm and cener he self-cenering chuck relaive o he cener of he wheel. Move he joysick conrol (5) o posiion A and he horizonal chuck arm will move upward. Move he joysick conrol (5) o posiion B and he horizonal chuck arm will move downward. When he horizonal arm is lowered, here is always a poenial for crushing anyhing in is movemen range. Always keep well ou of he working range of he various moving arms and pars. When he chuck jaws open or close, here is always a poenial for crushing anyhing in heir movemen range. Always keep hands and fingers ou of he jaws working range. When locking he wheel, make sure ha clamps are properly posiioned on he rim, so as o preven he ire from falling. 5. Wih he jaws in he closed posiion, move he joysick conrol (5) o posiion C and he sliding carriage and able will move lef owards he self-cenering chuck. This operaion can be exremely dangerous. Do i manually only if you are cerain you can keep he wheel balanced. For large and heavy ires an adequae lifing device mus be used. 14

15 Demouning Tubeless Truck Tires (Up o 13 ) Tubeless ruck ires are usually mouned on drop-cener rims. I is possible o demoun hese ires simply by pressure, and wih proper lubricaion 1. Remove all of he wheel-weighs from he rim. Remove he valve sem or core and deflae he ire. 5. Bring he ool carrier arm and disc back from he edge of he wheel hen release he hook and raise he ool holder arm o he res posiion. 6. Press he ool lock handle o unlock he ool head and urn he head 180 unil i locks auomaically and he disc is facing o he righ. 7. Lower he ool-holder arm ino is working posiion and allow i o lock securely. ALWAYS remove valve core o deflae ire before servicing. 8. Posiion he bead loosener disc close o he rim edge 2. Posiion he bead loosener disc or ubeless roller on he ouside bead of he ire as shown below. 3. Lif or lower he chuck so ha he bead loosener disc or ubeless roller remains close o he rim edge. Move he horizonal chuck arm all he way down hen roll he ire on he foo board and hang i ono he mouning clamp. 3. Lif he horizonal chuck arm and posiion he mouning hook or ubeless roller approximaely 1/2 (1.5 cm.) o he inside of he rim edge and approximaely 1/2 (1.5 cm.) away from he rim edge. The mouning clamp should be a approximaely 11 o clock. Sop he chuck before one complee urn is made o avoid personal injury or serious damage o he mouning clamp and/or rim. Move he moun/demoun ool owards he ouside. This will allow you o place he long ire iron bar in beween he bead and he rim flange. Mouning Duplex And Supersingle Tubeless Truck Tires (Over 13 Wide) 1. Hang he inner bead of he ire on he mouning clamp. 2. Posiion he mouning hook abou 3/4 (1.5 cm) o he inside of he inner rim edge and 1/2 (1 cm) away. 4. Roae he chuck counerclockwise unil he ouer bead is compleely demouned. 5. Demoun he inner bead wih he bead breaker disc, as described earlier. Coninue roaing he chuck, moving ool holder carriage owards he ouside unil he beads are compleely demouned. 3. Roae he chuck clockwise. Normally less han 1/4 of a revoluion is sufficien o moun he firs bead. For inflaion place he wheel in an approved inflaion resrain device. Refer o OSHA sandard number Turn he chuck clockwis (or counerclockwise) unil he lock ring is compleely removed. Demouning Tires From Muli-Piece Rim/Wheel Assemblies (Tube Type Tires) The muli-piece spli-rim/wheel assembly can be in single or muli-piece configuraions. No one should sand in fron of he wheel when removing he lock ring. 6. Coninue o demoun all componens of he rim manually or wih he disc ool. When loosening he inner bead be sure no o damage he valve sem. 18

19 Mouning Tires Ono Muli-Piece Rim/Wheel Assemblies 1. Roll he ire ono he sliding able (he ube and flap mus firs be in place). For ube ype only, he valve should be placed a 12 o clock, for easier mouning. 2. Slide he ire ono he rim wih he sliding able or wih he bead loosener disc, if necessary. 1. Remove all wheel-weighs from he rim. Remove he valve sem or core and deflae he ire compleely. 2. Place he disc ool nex o he rim edge and loosen ire inner bead. 3. This machine is no an inflaion device. For inflaion place he wheel in an approved inflaion resrain device. Refer o OSHA sandard number rim edge (1 or 2-3 cm). Move he ool owards he ouside o apply he long ire iron bar. Demouning Tracor and O.T.R. Wheels Wih One-Piece Rims O.T.R. ires and rims are very heavy and an ouside lifing ool may be required. These wheels may be ube-ype or ubeless. The rim has a sligh conical surface and a very high rim flange which does no allow you o demoun boh beads a he same ime wih he disc as described earlier Turn he chuck counerclockwise unil he ouer bead is compleely demouned. If he ire is a ube-ype, push he valve sem owards he inside of he rim hen lif he ool holder arm o he res posiion. Shif he ire from he rim, by moving he sliding carriage owards he ouside. This will make i much easier o remove he ube.

20 Mouning Tracor And O.T.R. Wheels On One-piece Rims 1. Liberally lubricae boh beads and he rim. 2. Firmly fi he mouning clamp o he ouer rim flange a 9 o clock. Roll he ire ono he sliding able and posiion i over he mouning clamp aached o he rim edge. 3. Place he hook abou (1 or 2-3 cm) away from he rim edge and (1 or 2-3 cm) o he ouside. 7. Place he hook ool as shown. The edge of he hook should be abou 1 (2-3 cm) away from he rim edge and abou 1 (2-3 cm) o he ouside. Pu he long ire bar in beween he bead and he rim. 4. Turn he chuck clockwise unil he firs bead is mouned. Remove he clamp. 5. Place he ube (if any) in he ire and secure he valve sem o he rim. 8. Roae he chuck counerclockwise unil he ire is compleely demouned. 6. Firmly fi he mouning clamp o he ouer rim edge a 11 o clock wih he valve sem a 10 o clock in such a way as o hold he ouer bead. If necessary make use of he ool o creae he space o fi he clamp. 7. Place he hook ool as described hen roae he chuck clockwise ill he ire bead is compleely mouned. If necessary, use he bead bar o keep he bead in he drop cener. During he final phase of he demouning operaion remove he ire bar and hold he ire wih boh hands, in order o keep i in a verical posiion. Do no inflae he ire on he machine. This machine is no an inflaion device. For inflaion place he wheel in an approved inflaion resrain device. Refer o OSHA sandard number

21 MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS Read and follow all he mainenance insrucions provided in his manual o keep he machine in good operaing condiion. Regular inspecions and proper mainenance are essenial o prevening accidens and injuries. These insrucions will help you service he uni. Insrucions are for a person wih some mechanical abiliy and raining. No aemp has been made o describe all basic seps like how o loosen or ighen faseners. Basic procedures such as cycling sysems and checking operaion of he equipmen are no fully described since hey are described in his manual. Do no aemp o perform work beyond your abiliy or a which you have no experience. If you need assisance, call an auhorized service cener or conac he facory. EVERY SIX WEEKS Grease periodically he following pars, afer having cleaned hem carefully wih diesel oil: Carriage slides. Horizonal ool holding arm spindle. Grease he horizonal arm lifing cylinder. The moor on his machine conains high volage. Disconnec power a he recepacle before performing any elecrical repairs. Secure plug so ha i canno be accidenally plugged in during service. DAILY On a daily basis, inspec he uni and check o be cerain ha all sysems are operaing normally. Follow deailed inspecion and esing procedures as specified for various componens a regular inervals. Replace any damaged or missing safey decal s. They are available from he facory. Make sure all faseners are securely ighened and all safey locks, conrols, knobs, hooks, pins and guards and covers are in place and operaing correcly. Check for worn, damaged or missing pars. Replace hem before allowing he uni o be used. Grease he Bead Breaking Disc Shaf. MONTHLY Check operaion of he moun/demoun ool holder. The sliding able / carriage, clamps, bead breaking head, and oher working surfaces should be cleaned wih a vaporizing solven every monh. 21

Over riding he Tool Arm Lock can cause he Tool arm o spring upwards violenly causing serious injury. Periodically adjus he Mechanical ool arm ip lock device.
