2 Introduction The purpose of this booklet is to assist with the operations inspection and maintenance of Heavy Equipment. For more details see TOP # Inspection and Maintenance to Include Inspections as identified in this logbook. All repairs, damages or modifications are to be recorded in the appropriate sections. When a visual inspection is undertaken, all items listed must confirm that the machine is in a safe operable condition. Items noted that do not pass inspection must be tagged and lockedout and repaired prior to the equipment being returned to service. For additional information regarding maintenance of the equipment, contact the personnel responsible for the maintenance of the equipment. Maintenance Items Loose Objects System Leaks Structural Damage Brakes Sheaves And Winch Drums Fluid Levels Hooks Outriggers Any nuts, bolts, tools, etc. left on the equipment which could result in damage or an unsafe condition. Any leaks in the fuel, cooling or hydraulic systems including hoses and fittings. Any physical damage to the equipment. Are to be inspected for wear, physical conditions, and tested prior to using the equipment. Are to be inspected for wear or other unsafe conditions. Are to be checked and topped up as necessary. This includes fuel, engine oil, hydraulic oil and cooling. Are to be inspected for cracks, throat opening, twisting and the condition of the safety latch, if applicable. Are to be inspected for operation and physical condition. Equipment Log Book I 1
3 Maintenance Items (Continued) Hooks Outriggers Functional Test Limit Switches Cables Are to be inspected for cracks,throat opening,twisting and the condition of the safety latch, if applicable. Are to be inspected for operation and physical condition. Includes running the equipment in all ways that it is normally used prior to putting the equipment in service. Must be tested before a crane is put in service. Inspect for abrasion, kinking, broken wires, lubrication, crushing, stretching, bird caging, core protrusion etc. Crane Operation Reference TOP # Cranes or hoisting equipment shall be operated at all times with due consideration for: All applicable regulatory requirements. Applicable TransCanada practices and procedures. Manufacture s specifications and maintenance instructions. The general public and others workers. Site specific safety procedures. Ground conditions. Wind velocity. Weather conditions. Visibility. Proximity to power lines, structures, or other hoisting equipment. Boom angle. Working radius. Ensuring that the crane or hoisting equipment is level. Ensuring that the crane or hoisting equipment has been checked and is in good working condition. Combine weights of the load to be lifted, together with rigging, slinging and lifting frames. The center of gravity and weight of the load to be lifted. 2 I Equipment Log Book
