2 Preface Thank you for purchasing the Doohan itank DH01 intelligent electric motorcycle. We hope you will enjoy riding your three-wheel motorcycle responsibly and safely. To ensure a safe and fun riding experience, it is important that you are familiar with features of your motorcycle, and reading this manual thoroughly will assist in your understanding. Each time before riding, it is necessary to perform some basic maintenance checks. In the event that your motorcycle needs repair, or for routine maintenance, we recommend returning to the dealer for servicing. If the original dealer is not nearby or convenient for you, we recommend locating another authorized dealer to ensure that the correct parts and proper repair methods are used. If you are mechanically inclined and have the proper training and tools, you can maintain and repair your motorcycle yourself. To ensure years of trouble free operation, we recommend only using genuine Doohan parts. This manual elaborates on proper operation, basic maintenance and adjustments of the Doohan itank DH01 motorcycle. Please note that specifications may be subject to change. This manual was correct at the time of printing, but may be updated in the future. We truly hope you enjoy riding your Doohan itank DH01 intelligent electric motorcycle. 2

3 Important notes Rider and Passenger If the rider invites a passenger to ride on the DH01, the passenger should hold on to the rider or the hand rails securely. The passenger should follow all instructions from the rider and should not attempt to control the motorcycle themselves. When two people are riding, the handling and braking performance may be compromised due to the extra weight. Be sure to never exceed the load limits indicated in section IX Do not allow inexperienced operators to ride your itank DH01. New riders should attend training to learn safe operation techniques and obtain the proper licensing where required. Road Conditions This motorcycle should only be driven on normal paved roads. If it is necessary to operate in the rain or snow, be cautious as the traction will be reduced and stopping distances will increase. Avoid riding through puddles or standing water, as excessive water can damage the electrical components. Follow all traffic laws and safety regulations and reduce your speed when the road is wet or other hazardous conditions exist. 3

6 I. Safe Driving Even if you are an experienced motorcycle rider, motorcycling has risks. You can minimize these risks, but you can t eliminate them completely. A motorist's failure to see or recognize a motorcycle is the leading cause of automobile/motorcycle accidents. Ride where you're clearly visible to other motorists, and observe their behavior carefully. Ride defensively, as if you are invisible to other motorists, even in broad daylight. All riders should: Wear bright or light-colored and/or reflective clothing to improve visibility to other motorists. Wear a helmet, and make sure the helmet fits properly. Wear protective glasses or goggles if the helmet does not provide full face protection. If possible, avoid driving in conditions where your vision is impaired, such as when there is excessive glare from bright lights or motorists headlights at night. Use extra caution at intersections, in parking lots and rail crossings. Observe speed limits and reduce your speed in the rain or other hazardous conditions. Take a rider education course and practice your riding skills in an open area with no traffic. Know your skills and limits, and ride within them. Allow only licensed, experienced operators to ride your motorcycle, and then only after they have become familiar with its controls and operation. Make sure all riders read and understand this rider s manual before riding. Do not ride when you're fatigued, ill or under the influence of alcohol, prescription drugs, overthe-counter drugs or any other drugs. Fatigue, illness, alcohol and drugs can cause drowsiness, loss of coordination and loss of balance. They can also affect your awareness and judgment. Avoid roads with potholes or where the road surface is otherwise rough or uneven. This improves safety, and also reduces the chance of damage to the motorcycles wheels, steering/suspension, body structures and other components of the motorcycle. When driving, use both hands on the handlebars and place both feet on the foot rests. 6

7 Do not use your phone or other communication device while riding. Instead, stop your motorcycle in a safe place before using/answering your phone or utilizing any other electronic communication device. Signal before changing lanes, and make sure that the other drivers observe your signal and that you have adequate space before changing lanes. NOTICE Only small and lightweight objects should be placed in the seat compartment. Do not exceed the load limit. Seat Compartment Maximum Weight 10kg (22lbs) When determining the motorcycles total load, it is necessary to add up the weight of the driver, passenger and all cargo. The total load should not exceed 160kg (353lbs) Be sure that all cargo is securely attached or completely inside of the storage compartment.! WARNING Overloading the motorcycle will affect its operation and stability. Observe load limits. 7

13 Starting up operation 1 Press the unlock button on the remote control. 2 After the confirmation of successful unlock, insert the key and turn to position. After that, the motorcycle is on and the keys can t be removed until it is turned off.. 3 When the self-test of system is complete, the itank is ready to ride. 4 Hold the brake handle, raise the side stand. Right handlebar combination switch 1. Reverse switch: To engage reverse, move to the R position. D is used for normal (forward) riding. 2. Speed selector switch: 1 is limited speed mode, 15mph maximum. 2 is full speed mode, 25mph maximum. 3. Horn switch: Press to sound the horn. Reverse Speed mode Horn switch 13

Temporarily flash high beam, to indicate intention to pass. 3. Turn signals: Move the switch to the left to activate the left turn signals. 16 III. Daily inspection and adjustment Pre-Ride Inspections To keep your motorcycle in safe operating condition, always perform the recommended pre-ride inspections before each ride. This is especially important if it has not been operated for more than one week or when removing from winter storage. Brake levers Apply left and right brake levers to ensure smooth operation without binding. Lever travel should be between 10-20mm. Brake fluid level inspection: (1)Straighten the handlebars and observe the fluid level. It should be between the upper and lower limit. (2)If the brake fluid level is near the lower limit, it can be an indication that the brake pads are worn. Have the condition of the brake pads checked by your dealer. (3)If the brake fluid is low and the brake pads are not worn, inspect for fluid leaks. Your dealer can check your brake system for leaks, wear and perform repairs necessary to ensure proper operation. (4)Brake fluid type: DOT3 or DOT4 Notice: If you choose to have maintenance or repairs performed by other than an authorized dealer, we strongly recommend using only genuine Doohan parts. Using genuine Doohan parts ensures a proper fit and function, which is important for trouble free operation. 16

17 Tires The tire pressure should be checked daily before riding. Check the tire pressure only when the tires are cool, preferably before riding. If the tire pressure is low, the tire may have a puncture leak or other leak. Have the tire checked or repaired as soon as possible. Slow tire pressure loss over time is normal. Observe the tire wear pattern, which should be even, not more severe on either side. If the tires are not wearing evenly, it is possible that the alignment may need to be adjusted by your dealer. Tires should be replaced when the tread depth is less than 2mm. The tires have wear indicator bars to help determine when the tires must be replaced. Inspect the tire sidewalls, road contact surface and tread base. If inspection reveals cuts, punctures, cracks or other wear or damage, replace the tire before riding. Always use the correct size and type of tires specified by Doohan. Check the wheels for damage. Severe bumps or potholes can cause wheel damage.! Warning Low tire pressure is the primary cause of tire failure. Low tire pressure also causes poor handling, reduced fuel economy and causes the tire to overheat. Be sure that all tires are properly inflated. Avoid operating on severely worn tires, traction is reduced and braking performance is compromised and a worn tire is more likely to fail. 19 IV. Operation guidance Starting: Hold the handlebar with both hands and mount the motorcycle from the left side. While seated, straighten the handlebars and turn the power switch to the ON position.! Warning Never turn the ignition ON and turn the throttle unless you are seated on the motorcycle and ready to ride. Always wear a helmet. Wear protective clothing, and avoid wearing clothing that is too loose or does not fit you properly. Obey all traffic laws. Riding: When you are ready to ride, raise the side stand and turn the throttle to accelerate. Always be ready to apply the brake. Follow all traffic laws. Parking: Rotate the key to the off position and remove the key. Lower the side stand and lean the motorcycle left so it is supported by the side stand. Park on level ground when possible. If you must park on a slope, be sure the motorcycle is stable and supported by the side stand. Remote Locking: Locking by remote control is only allowed when the ignition switch is in the OFF position. Press the lock button on the remote while you are still in close proximity to the motorcycle. The lights will flash indicating that the motorcycle has locked successfully. Locating the motorcycle: Press the locate key on the remote control and the lights will flash and a beeping sound will be heard for 10 seconds. The lights and beeping can be disabled by pressing the lock or unlock button, or with the key. 19

20 Theft Prevention Never leave the keys in the ignition, and never leave the keys or remote on or near the motorcycle. Take the keys and remote with you when parked. Park the motorcycle inside of a locked garage when possible. Braking operation Control your speed. Accelerate moderately, and anticipate stops. Coasting allows regenerative charging of the batteries and reduces the need for sudden stops. When it is necessary to stop quickly, release the throttle and apply the front and rear brake levers evenly and gradually.! Warning When the road surface is wet or there is loose sand or gravel, it will take longer to stop. Pay attention to the road conditions and adjust accordingly. Avoid over-use of the brakes to prevent overheating of the brake pads. Anticipate upcoming stops and coast to decelerate (not applying the throttle or brakes). When possible, avoid braking while turning. It is better to straighten the handlebars and return the motorcycle to the upright position before applying the brakes to avoid loss of traction during braking. 20

21 Charging the battery and spare batteries Remove the charging port cover and connect the charger into the socket until you hear a click, additionally, a light on the charger will indicate that the charger is connected. Turn the charger ON, and the charging indicator light will flash to indicate charging, and remain on steady when the battery is fully charged. Extra batteries can be charged while not installed in the motorcycle. Connect the charger directly to the battery charging socket until you hear click. NOTICE If the battery charge light does not turn green after 10 hours of continuous charging, the battery may be deteriorated or damaged. Stop charging and consult with your dealer. To prolong the batteries service life, avoid fully discharging the battery, and do not charge or store the battery in temperatures higher than 104 F (40 C). The battery will perform the best and last the longest when the state of charge is maintained between 80% and 20% of full capacity. The batteries performance will be reduced at very cold (near freezing and below freezing) temperatures. For long term storage, the battery should not be fully charged or fully discharged, 50% is ideal. If the motorcycle will be stored for more than 2 months without operation, connect the charger every 2 months to maintain the batteries charge and prevent battery deterioration.! Warning Impact damages batteries. When storing or charging batteries that are not installed in the motorcycle, avoid putting them on shelves or tables where they might fall, as impact to the battery case can cause internal damage and could lead to overheating, fire or explosion. 21

22 V. Maintenance and repair In order to maximize the motorcycles service life and ensure years of trouble free operation, it is necessary to perform some basic maintenance. This is especially important if the motorcycle will be stored for a period of time without activity, or has recently been placed back into service after storage. New motorcycles have an initial break in period, so the first maintenance should be performed after about one month or 250miles of operation. Subsequent maintenance is recommended every 6 months or 1,800 miles of operation. If the motorcycle is used in extreme conditions, such as heavy loads, rough roads or in a dusty/dirty environment, the maintenance should be more frequent. Doohan recommends returning to the dealer for maintenance. If you have the proper training and tools, you can perform the maintenance yourself. To avoid injury or damage to the motorcycle, do not attempt to perform maintenance or repairs yourself if you do not have the required skills. 22

23 Cleaning Wash your motorcycle often, especially when exposed to salty, dusty, acidic or alkaline environments. Use warm or cool water and a soft cloth for cleaning. Do not wash with extremely hot water. Use soaps that are non-abrasive and have a neutral ph (non acidic/non alkaline detergents). Do not use solvent-based solutions. Do not use a dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use a stiff bristle brush, which can scratch the surface. Do not use pressurized water to wash the motorcycle. Pressure washers can force water into the electrical components, causing damage. To remove bug remnants or road tar, use only products that are specifically designed for this purpose. Follow the product manufacturer s recommendations to prevent potential damage to the finish. Follow with a wash using the methods described in this section. Be sure to turn the ignition to off and remove the key before washing. To avoid electrical shock, do not connect the charger while the motorcycle is wet. 23

24 3. Usage tips To accelerate, rotate the throttle grip slowly and evenly. Avoid snapping the throttle open or closed. Long hills can cause the batteries to discharge quickly. For extended hill climbing, use low-speed mode to prevent rapid discharge, overheating and potential battery damage. Coasting downhill allows the batteries to recharge and the motor to cool. Avoid using the brakes when coasting downhill unless necessary to prevent excessive speed. Always release the throttle before applying the brakes. If the brakes and throttle are applied simultaneously, upon release of the brake the motorcycle may lunge forward causing an unsafe condition. The motorcycle is design to withstand the weather, but it is still a good idea to avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, rain, snow and other elements. It is best to park indoors or under a cover. If no covered parking is available, consider using an all-weather motorcycle cover for protection. Avoid parking in an area where the water level may rise to more than 4 inches (10cm), to prevent water entering the electric motor hub which may cause damage. If the motorcycle becomes dirty from rain, snow or similar, wash it with soap and clean water to prevent corrosion and maintain a beautiful appearance. If the motorcycle has been exposed to the sun, rain or snow, ensure that the brake levers and throttle grip turn freely without binding before riding. 24

25 Battery maintenance tips Avoid exposing the battery to extreme temperatures. Ideal temperature for the battery performance and durability is 50 F to 86 F (10 C to 30 C). Avoid storing or using the battery below 14 F or over 104 F (-10 C to 40 C) Avoid exposing the batteries to water, drinks or other corrosive liquids which may damage the battery. Do not expose the battery to open flame, it will catch fire or explode. Do not allow tools or other metal objects to touch the battery terminals, which may cause sparks, fire or explosion.! Warning Lithium batteries are not serviceable. Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the battery yourself. Any attempt to open the battery case can lead to damage, electrical shock, fire and/or explosion. Return old or malfunctioning batteries to the dealer or to a recycling center for proper disposition. If the battery is emitting a smell, or shows signs of distortion caused by heat, stop using the battery immediately and consult with your dealer. Note: Charging below 32 C (0 C) has been disabled to prevent battery damage. 25

26 Charging tips Charge the batteries under the ambient temperature of 50 F to 86 F (10 C to 30 C). Avoid charging below 32 F or above 95 F (below 0 C or above 35 C). Do not charge the battery continuously for more than 10 hours. When charging batteries installed in the motorcycle, or charging spare batteries that are not installed, be sure that the charger is fully connected. A good connection is indicated by an audible click. When charging is complete, turn of the chargers power switch, unplug the charger from the motorcycle, and then unplug from the power outlet. Pull from the plug, not from the cord.! Warning The battery charger is not user serviceable. or repair the charger yourself. Do not attempt to disassemble Do not cover the charger while in use, it needs adequate ventilation to prevent overheating. Store the charger in a dry, well ventilated place. Avoid dropping the charger or any other types of impact to the charger case, which can cause damage. If you lose the original charger, or need a replacement for any reason, consult your dealer.! Warning Use only the genuine Doohan charger. Attempting to charge the batteries with any other type of charger can lead to damage, overheating, fire or explosion. 26

29 VII. Motorcycle Storage Short-term storage: Park the motorcycle on flat, covered place with good ventilation and low moisture. Charge the battery to around 80% to prevent deterioration during storage. If it is not possible to store the motorcycle in a garage or in a covered parking structure, consider using an all-weather motorcycle cover for protection. Charge the battery completely before riding after storage. Perform the Pre-Ride Inspections in section III. Long-term storage:in addition to the short term storage steps listed above; Disconnect the battery electrical connector to prevent electrical drain and over discharge of the battery. Charge the battery every two months during storage to prevent deterioration. Perform the Pre-Ride Inspections in section III. Pay particular attention to the brake levers, throttle activation, lights, horn, tire pressure and tire condition after long-term storage. 29
