3 SAFETY 1. Always read and ensure you fully understand the following precautions and the hazards associated with this product. 2. Only use this jack for its manufactured purpose. 3. Never make any modifications to this product. If experiencing difficulty of any kind contact us. 4. Never use the jack on uneven surfaces, only on flat ground. 5. Never start the vehicle engine whilst the trolley jack is in use. 6. This jack is for lifting only. Never move a vehicle using the trolley jack as a dolly. 7. Ensure the load is taken by the full saddle and that the point of lift on the vehicle is strong enough to support the full weight adequately. 8. Never allow children or bystanders in the area while the jack is in use. Ensure that all personnel are well clear of a load being raised or lowered. 9. Never work underneath a vehicle supported only by this jack. If working under a vehicle, always use stands designed for the purpose. 10. Ensure the jack is on a firm solid base and that there is no likelihood of it slipping when under load. PAGE 3

4 ASSEMBLY AND BEFORE FIRST USE CHECKS Ensure you have the following components before use: 1. ALUMINIUM JACK CHASSIS 2. PUMPING HANDLE IN TWO PARTS Before use, visually examine the trolley jack for oil leaks or any other sign of damage. Should any appear, have the jack inspected and repaired by contacting us at SGS Engineering. Remove the retaining clip from the handle hole. Ensure the vehicle to be raised is chocked and standing on firm, level ground before manoeuvring the trolley jack so that the saddle is directly underneath the lifting point. Consult the vehicle manual to find out the suitable lifting points. PAGE 4

5 OPERATION USING THE TROLLEY JACK 1. Turn the handle fully clockwise to close the release valve, and pump the handle to raise the saddle until it reaches the vehicle lifting point. 2. Ensure that the saddle is directly below the lifting point and there are no obstructions to prevent a proper lift. Keep all persons at a safe distance before continuing to pump the handle to raise the vehicle. 3. Position axle stands directly beneath suitable supporting points under the vehicle, before gently twisting the handle anticlockwise. 4. Carefully lower the vehicle onto the axle stands, checking constantly, that the vehicles supporting point rests properly and cleanly on the axle stand, and that the stand is stable before all the weight is loaded onto it. 5. Completely remove the jack from the vehicle. NOTE: The trolley jack may move ever so slightly during the lifting process- this is completely normal, but nevertheless, take care. WARNING! Never work on/under a vehicle when supported only by a trolley jack, it is highly dangerous. PAGE 5

6 MAINTENANCE PURGING AIR FROM THE TROLLEY JACK If air becomes trapped inside the hydraulic system of the trolley jack, the proper working of the trolley jack will be reduced and it may not fully support the vehicle weight. Air can be purged from the hydraulic system as follows: 1. Turn the handle anti-clockwise to allow oil to circulate freely around the system. Remove the filler plug. 2. Pump the handle several times to purge air from the hydraulic system. 3. Replace the filler plug, then turn the handle clockwise and test the jack. If efficiency is still low, check the oil level as below. CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL If the jack has been stored for long periods, check for oil leaks before use. If necessary, check the oil level as follows: 1. Ensure the trolley jack is properly lowered by turning the handle fully anti-clockwise. 2. Remove the oil filler plug on the top of the ram assembly. A flat-bladed screwdriver will be required. NOTE: The oil should be almost level with the bottom of the oil filler hole. Oil replacement can be sought by contacting us at SGS Engineering PAGE 6

8 MAINTENANCE GUIDE Daily. See page 4 & 5. Monthly. Lubrication is critical to jacks as they support heavy loads. Any restriction due to dirt, rust or corrosion can cause either slow movement or rapid jerks damaging the internal components. The following steps are designed to keep the jack maintained and operational: 1. Open the release valve by turning the handle knob counter clockwise and push the ram to its lowest position 2. Remove the filler plug. 3. Fill with clean hydraulic jack oil. Do not use hydraulic brake fluid. 4. Reinstall the filler plug. Add lubrication to all moving parts as needed. Every 6 months. Carry out a thorough inspection for serviceability of component parts Visually inspect for oil leaks (only a slight oil seepage is permissible). If a leak is found, take the jack out of service and consult with SGS Engineering. Annually. Check the ram oil level as follows: 1. Ensure the ram is fully retracted by turning the knob fully anticlockwise. 2. Remove the cover plate, located at the base of the handle housing, to gain access the ram, then remove the ram filler plug. 3. Lift the jack so that it is vertical, resting on its front wheels and check the oil level. It should be level with the bottom of the oil filler hole. If necessary, top up with Hydraulic oil. 4. Replace filler plug and purge system of air (see page 5). PAGE 8

9 WARRANTY This SGS product is covered by a 24 month warranty from the initial date of purchase. This is a domestic warranty provided directly by SGS Engineering. Please keep a recipt of your pucrchase as this may be required as proof of purchase. You will invalidate your warranty if the product is found to have been misused, tampered with, modified, overloaded or used for an application for which it was not designed. The warranty will also be rendered invalid if the maintenance prodcedure has not been followed. You must contact SGS Engineering prior to returning any product. This warranty does not effect your statutory rights. PAGE 9
