2 The Truth about NYC Parking Rules for Holidays and Sundays You will absolutely, positively receive a NYC parking ticket if you don t know the difference between the parking rules for Major Legal Holidays, Legal Holidays and Sunday Parking For example, raise your cyber hand if you were among the numerous, furious members of the driving public who were issued NYC parking tickets because you thought parking rules were suspended on Martin Luther King's Birthday? Parking rules are not suspended on MLK's birthday because under NYC parking rules, it is not a " Major Legal Holiday." It is classified as a "Legal Holiday." 4 Some Helpful Hints: Regardless of the Holiday or on Sunday, you can never, ever park in a space regulated by a sign that prohibits parking all days/times, or any time. Generally this sign will be a red parking sign On Sundays, you do not have to pay a parking meter or muni-meter. The big but is that you still must obey the parking signs regulating your space. If the sign says, "No Parking Any Time," please keep driving. But, in my humble opinion, parking is permitted on Sunday in a space regulated by this sign because it does not prohibit parking all days/times, or any time. You may never, ever, even on Sundays, park or stand in a space regulated by a sign that prohibits standing ANY TIME. 7
