10 WHY RSV4? RSV4 project was born to bring motorsports technology directly to the road and reconfirm the passion and engineering capabilities of even in the large engine capacity category. A bike developed for the track that embodies everything a rider desires to dominate the circuit, but which can be just as much fun to ride on the road. A concentrated engineering package developed around a 65 V4 engine, the layout identified as the best technical choice for a powerful, light, ultra-compact and extremely agile machine. 18 RSV4 RR/RF The MY17 V4 engine shares the same dimensions of the past (65 V4, 78 x 52.3 mm) and has been developed to complain new Euro4 emission regulations, with the aim of still developing more than 200 HP, defending its leadership in the superbike category. 19 RSV4 RR/RF TONS OF POWER With 201 HP maximum power at 13,000 rpm and an astonishing maximum torque of 115 Nm, this bike eats up the track. Great performances on track, breath-taking exits from turns even at mid range revs. That s exactly what you were looking for. New Euro4 homologation requirements had a slight impact on mid range engine delivery, but engineers managed to keep all the performances unchanged at higher revs, right there where it s needed for best track perfomances. 22 RSV4 RR/RF VEHICLE BENCHMARK CHASSIS ADJUSTABLE ALUMINIUM FRAME AND RACINGDERIVED SWINGARM An hallmark, the RV4 s fully adjustable aluminium frame is a work of art on display that hides the secrets of a benchmark chassis. Pressed and cast sheet elements lend the frame optimised torsional andflexional rigidity for perfect feeling and control and to allow the rider to handle the engine s incredible power: the reference point in terms of handling, stability at high speeds and pure grit. The aluminium frame and swingarm reduce weight while providing the necessary stiffness to transfer all the power of the 65 V4 engine to the ground. The frame weighs as little as 10.5 kg, the swingarm only 5.1 kg. The resulting contained moving masses enhance the bike s responsiveness and sensitivity to adjustments to the suspension settings. 22

23 RSV4 RR/RF VEHICLE BENCHMARK CHASSIS NEW OHLINS NIX fork (only for RF version one-by-one adjustable SACHS USD fork for RR version), saves weight (-800g) and gives the bike stable damping characteristics while ensuring great comfort, which contributes to rider confidence. Like on the most powerful supersport bikes, the fork allows precision adjustment for hydraulic compression, rebound damping and spring preload. For optimal feedback from the road at all times. 24 RSV4 RR/RF TOP BRAKING PERFORMANCES NEW BREMBO BRAKE DISCS The Brembo M50 monoblock radial front brake calipers, ensure maximum power and high resistance to fading. The NEW Double Ø330 mm steel floating disc with low profile aluminium rotor and asymmetric cross-drilling make for the most powerful braking. The front radial master cylinder, combined with the NEW black steel front and rear brake lines, to maximise braking feeling. A Brembo two-piston caliper bites a 220 mm stainless steel rear brake disc. The master cylinder has a built-in reservoir. The result is optimal feeling even under hard braking. 24

26 RSV4 RR/RF ELECTRONICS The RSV4 engine/vehicle control electronics, already state of the art on the current model, underwent further refinement to make the performance of MY17 even better. 28 RSV4 RR/RF NEW MULTIMAP CORNERING ABS RSV4 MY17 features a completely revamped ABS system, based on the NEW BOSCH 9.1 MP control unit, characterised by small size and extreme light weight. It s a modern two-channel antilock system, that provides the following advantages: - improved stability - improved deceleration without locking the wheels - reduced braking distance in critical situations The greatest innovation, compared to the previous MY16 bike, is the introduction of the CORNERING functionality. The system is now able to recognise when the rider is braking hard while leaning into a bend, preventing the wheels from locking also in this critical situation. This allows the rider to keep total control of the bike in any panic stop condition. 28

29 RSV4 RR/RF 2 - NEW MULTIMAP CORNERING ABS The system has been skilfully developed and calibrated based on indications from engineers in order to provide not only maximum safety on the road, but also the best performance on the track. The rider can still select between 3 ABS maps to better suit the system responsiveness to the current riding conditions (1 = track, 2 = road, 3 = wet), always with the goal of maximising braking effectiveness. Now ABS MAP2 has become also suitable for amateur track riding. The ABS system can also be disabled by the rider, still keeping all the rest of the electronic controls of the bike active. NEW for MY17 is also the ABS deactivation strategy. If disabled by the rider, the system will automatically be reactivated after every key OFF/ON. A better attention to safety.permanent deactivation of the ABS system will still be possible for RACE USE ONLY (need to install the RACE engine ECU/MAP) 29

34 RSV4 RR/RF REFINED ATC FUNCTIONALITY INCREASES CONTROL IN THE EVENT OF SLIDING WHEN EXITING A CURVE Controls wheelspin (SLIP) under acceleration (uses the bank angle and other parameters). The patented SLIP CONTROL system modulates driving wheel slip when existing a curve between a maximum and a minimum SLIP threshold in all 8 available settings. ATC WIDE BAND: on the Tuono the most conservative levels allow use on wet roads without sacrificing the sportiness of the most liberal levels (1 and 2). 8 settings The dedicated joystick enables rider to change settings even with the throttle open Especially useful in event of: - loss of grip of the tyres - changing weather conditions 34

35 RSV4 RR/RF REFINED AWC FUNCTIONALITY HELPS THE RIDER CONTROL WHEELIES BY LOWERING THE FRONT WHEEL GENTLY TO THE GROUND Thanks to the new positioning on the bike of the BOSCH inertial platform, the system is now able to accurately detect pitch angle and rate.this allowed s electronic engineers to completely redefine the wheelie control strategy. Compared to the old system, where the target of the strategy was always to gently lower the front wheel to the ground, the new MY17 AWC is also able to keep the bike to hold a certain pitch angle, according to the riding condition. This always ensures the maximum power delivery to the ground, a giant leap in terms of overall performance improvement. - The revamped AWC hardware easily identifies the START and END of a wheelie - During a wheelie, AWC prevents the motorcycle from exceeding a predetermined pitch rate/angle - New AWC strategy now gently lowers the front wheel to the ground or holds a specific pitch angle, according to the current riding conditions 35

38 RSV4 RR/RF NEW AQS WITH UP/DOWN ELECTRONIC SHIFTING ENABLES FASTER UP/DOWN SHIFTING WITHOUT USING THE CLUTCH OR CLOSING THE THROTTLE Electronic down shifting function added: thanks to a new linear gear sensor and a double direction shifter sensor, MY17 AQS system allows also electronically controlled DOWN shifting. For UP shifting, system s kick-in time varies according to three different engine rpm thresholds, i.e. is slower a low rpm and faster at high rpm Available as an exclusive feature of s MY17 AQS system is the full gas down shifting ability, very useful in case of sudden overtaking maneuvers while riding in traffic. 39 RSV4 RR/RF NEW PIT LIMITER FUNCTIONALITY PIT LIMITER: limits the speed of the vehicle below a certain threshold that can be defined by the rider. The system cuts power if the rider exceeds the selected speed limit. PIT LIMITER THRESHOLD SPEED CAN BE SET BY THE RIDER FROM THE DASHBOARD, IN A SPECIFIC SECTION OF THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL SETTINGS MENU. 40 RSV4 RR/RF NEW CRUISE CONTROL FUNCTIONALITY s MY17 V4 new electronic package features a full electronic cruise control for maximum comfort on long highway rides. A system able to maintain the speed selected by the driver. The system can be activated or deactivated by the rider with a long press on the central selector. The system can be used at certain speeds in third to sixth gears. Once at the desired speed, the system can be engaged or disengaged (transition to state SET) by means of a short central pressure of the selector. The selected cruising speed can be increased or decreased with a short press the selector up or down (increase / decrease speed 1.2 mph (2kmh) or through long press up or down for a progressive change in speed. CENTRAL SWITCH The rider can twist grip to accelerate temporarily. Upon release of the throttle grip the motorcycle will return to the selected cruising speed. It is possible to wake the system through an long press up of selector if the rider wants to resume the last set speed, otherwise a short press can set a new cruising speed. 40

43 RSV4 RR/RF NEW DASBOARD - ROAD The NEW full colour 4.3 TFT dashboard improves the technological feel of the bike and has been designed to display in the best way all the most useful information to the rider. Display view can be set by the rider either in ROAD or RACE mode. Each mode has both DAY and NIGHT view, with different background and dedicated item colour palette. In ROAD view, the main portion of the display shows speed and an equally scaled RPM meter. DAY NIGHT ROAD 43

44 RSV4 RR/RF NEW DASBOARD RACE & INFO In RACE view, the main portion of the display shows current lap time and number and a racing RPM meter, with a larger section dedicated to higher engine revs. Also best lap time and current speed are displayed, with smaller characters. Both ROAD and RACE views will display all the information regarding the infotainment system, such as incoming calls and music track. 46 RSV4 RR/RF V4 - MULTIMEDIA PLATFORM NEW FEATURES Standard on RSV4 RF MY17 (optional for RR) is a revamped version of the PMP interface (Piaggio Multimedia Platform), V4-MP. New, exclusive functionalities have been added to the App, according to a constant development and evolution process of a still unique in the market system, able to connect a smartphone to V4 bike s electronic system. 46

47 RSV4 RR/RF V4 - MULTIMEDIA PLATFORM Other exclusive features of V4-MP are: ACTIVE ELECTRONIC SETUP technology as close as you can get to the corner-by-corner electronic management used in world racing championships. Using the GPS antenna of the smartphone, the system detects the position of the bike at any given time on the track and automatically changes the electronic adjustments (traction control ATC, anti-wheelie AWC), as given by the rider s set up, for each specific segment of the track.so the rider can focus on his riding to get the best performance out of it. 47

The patented SLIP CONTROL system modulates driving wheel slip when existing a curve between a maximum and a minimum SLIP threshold in all 8 available settings.
