Installation 3.0 To be Observed Prior to Installation Make sure that the intended speeds and torques (Chapter 2.2) and the service temperature do not exceed the permissible values. Standard tolerances for finish-bores in accordance with ISO tolerance G6 (DIN ISO286-2). Standard keyway according to DIN 6885 Sheet 1. Set screws as required. WARNING! Always turn off the motor prior to any work on the coupling! Secure motor against accidental activation! Note: The hubs can be uniformly heated to between 80 and 120 C in order to make installation easier. Allow the hot hubs to cool down to ambient temperature prior to inserting the buffer ring. WARNING! Always wear gloves to protect against hot coupling parts! 3.1 Coupling Installation (see Fig. 1) Clean the bore of the coupling hub and the shaft ends before mounting the coupling. Use appropriate installation aids when dealing with larger couplings. Push the entire mounted coupling hub (1.1 or 1.2) with an elastomer buffer rings (3), tz lock rings (4) and lock rings (5) onto the shaft ends and up to the shaft collar. Secure the coupling hub (1.1 or 1.2) with the enclosed lock washer (9) or set screws. Push the entire Push the coupling hub including the mounted shaft end into the entirely installed duplex bolted-on flange (2, 6, 7, 8) on both sides. 3.2 Coupling Alignment WARNING! Always turn off the motor prior to any work on the coupling! Secure motor against accidental activation! Note: Precise alignment of the coupling prolongs the service life of the elastomer buffer ring. The maximum permissible misalignment values contained in Tables 3 and 4 are guiding values. These values should only be utilised to a maximum of 50 % when aligning the equipment for the first time. In special circumstance with high requirements concerning the smoothness of running or higher speeds, alignment accuracies of < 0.1 mm may be required. MBA tz ; Status: 20/06/2011; Index: f Page 15

Installation Angular Alignment Warning! Always turn off the motor prior to any work on the coupling! Secure motor against accidental activation! Measure one complete rotation (360 ). In doing so, determine the largest deviation z1 as well as the smallest deviation z2. Calculate the angular misalignment Δz = z1 - z2. Observe the maximum permissible angular misalignment Δz max according to Table 3 for the respective coupling size. The values in Table 3 are valid for a reference speed of 1500 rpm. Fig. 3: Angular alignment Size Δz max [mm] 230SSV/DU SSV/DU SSV/DU SSV/DU 1.2 Table 3: Angular alignment - dimensions MBA tz ; Status: 20/06/2011; Index: f Page 16

Installation Axial Alignment The torsionally flexible tz-claw coupling SSV/DU is a coupling with length compensation. The permissible tolerances for length compensation are indicated in Table 1. Make sure that the buffer rings (3) are properly seated in their full width in the claw ring pockets of the duplex flange (2) and the coupling hubs (1). After the coupling has been axially aligned, the coupling hub (1) and the claw ring of the bolted-on flange (2) may not touch each other. The coupling hubs (1) must be secured against axial movement. A radially arranged set screw or a tz lock washer can be used for this. Fig. 5: Axial alignment MBA tz ; Status: 20/06/2011; Index: f Page 18

Installation 3.4 Operation The characteristics of the coupling are to be observed when using the coupling (please see Section 2: Technical Data). The technical data must never be exceeded without prior written approval by tz. In order to ensure a long and trouble-free performance of the coupling, the coupling must be designed with a service factor that is appropriate to the service conditions in compliance with the design specifications, e.g. DIN 740, Part 2. Each change to the operating conditions or operating parameters necessitates the verification of the coupling design. WARNING! Before putting the coupling into operation, check the alignment of the coupling and all screwed connections for stipulated tightening torque and firm fit. Before the product is put into operation, all moving or freely rotating parts must be protected by permanently installed enclosures against unintentional contact and falling objects. The guards (enclosures) must at least comply with the requirements of the protection type IP2X. The covers should be designed in such a manner to prevent dust from being deposited on the coupling. If you determine irregularities during the performance of the coupling, turn off the drive immediately, since there may be danger of explosion. Using the following table "Operation Faults and Possible Causes", determine and correct the cause of the fault taking into account specific safety measures. MBA tz ; Status: 20/06/2011; Index: f E Page 19

Installation Operation Faults and Possible Causes ATTENTION! Turn off drives immediately in case of operation fautls!. Correct fault immediately as there is otherwise there is an ignition hazard due to hot surfaces and possible spark formation. Fault Cause Correction Irregular running noises / vibrations Alignment fault Correct cause of alignment fault Realign coupling Inspect the elastomer buffer ring for wear Elastomer buffer ring worn out Inspect coupling parts for damage - replace parts if necessary Replace elastomer buffer ring Imbalance Check balance state of plant components and correct if necessary Inspect the elastomer buffer ring for wear Loose screwed connections Premature wear of the elastomer buffer ring Claw breakage Check coupling parts for damage, replace if necessary Check alignment of the coupling Tighten bolts with the stipulated tightening torque and secure them against working loose automatically if necessary Inspect the elastomer buffer ring for wear Alignment fault Correct cause of alignment fault Realign coupling Inspect the elastomer buffer ring for wear Impermissible temperature Replace buffer ring Realign coupling Adjust ambient temperature Contact with aggressive media Check coupling parts for damages replace, if necessary, Replace buffer ring Check alignment of the coupling Prevent contact with aggressive media Torsional vibrations in the drive line Analyse and correct cause of torsional vibrations Inspect coupling parts for damage - replace parts if necessary Replace buffer ring Select a different Shore hardness after inspection by tz Check alignment of the coupling Replace coupling Shorten wear inspection intervals Inspect coupling design in cooperation with tz Replace coupling Introduce larger coupling if necessary Buffer ring worn out => contact with claws Overload due to too high torque Table 5: Correction of operation faults MBA tz ; Status: 20/06/2011; Index: f Page 20

Coupling SSV/SP Commissioning 3.5 Maintenance The tz-coupling SSV/DU only requires little maintenance during operation. The time in which the wear limit of the elastomer buffer ring is reached depends on the service parameters and conditions of use. During routine inspections of the drive equipment, check the following: Alignment of the coupling, Condition of the buffer ring, Remove dust deposits from the coupling and the buffer rings, Replace the buffer ring when performing servicing works on the drive equipment, or after 3 years at the latest. WARNING! Always turn off the motor prior to any work on the coupling! Secure motor against accidental activation! Wear Inspection of the Elastomer Buffer Rings The elastomer buffer rings must be visually inspected and checked for wear after 200 hours, or after 14 days following the first start-up of the equipment at the latest. If only minor or no wear of the buffer rings is found during this first inspection, further inspections can be carried out at regular intervals of 2000 hours but every 3 months at the latest provided that the operating conditions do not change. However, should excessive wear be found during this first inspection, check whether the cause of this problem is listed in Table 5 Operation Faults and Possible Causes. The inspection intervals must then be adapted to the prevailing operating conditions. The replacement and inspection intervals must be reduced in the event of special conditions. Replace the elastomer buffer ring while carrying out servicing work on the drive or after 3 years at the latest. If the wear limit has been reached or exceeded, replace the elastomer buffer rings immediately irrespective of the inspection intervals for the plant. Remove dust deposits from the coupling parts and the buffer rings. MBA tz ; Status: 20/06/2011; Index: f Page 21

Commissioning Wear Inspection while the Plant is at a Standstill In order to examine the buffer for wear while the plant is switched off and unloaded, turn the coupling parts in such a manner that the claws rest against the elastomer buffer rings without clearance. As shown in Fig. 6, measure the claw distance V in circumferential direction over the buffers which are in contact with the claws on both sides. The adjacent buffers are not in contact with the claws. Repeat this measurement on the adjacent buffers after the coupling parts have been turned in the opposite direction to one another. The elastomer buffer rings must be replaced immediately if the dimension V reaches or falls below the value of Vmin for the respective coupling size stated in Table 5. Fig. 6: Wear inspection Distance dimension V min for wear inspection while the plant is at a standstill Size Vmin [mm] Table 6: Wear dimensions Reattach all of the protective devices after having completed the wear measurement. 21 Installation 3.6 Servicing works and Transportation Servicing works should only be carried out in a specialist company. Professional maintenance / repair can only be guaranteed by tz. Interventions carried out on the plant by a third party may alter specified characteristics and may lead to faults and malfunctions for which tz does not assume any liability. Attention! Proceed as follows should repair works are unavoidable in potentially explosive areas : 1. The personnel assigned to work on the coupling must be familiar with the operating manual, and in particular, with Chapter 1. Approval to start the maintenance work is given by the supervisors in charge after they have convinced themselves that there is no explosive atmosphere present which might represent a hazard when the work is carried out. 2. The coupling parts to be replaced must be transported to the site of installation in suitable containers. They must only be taken out of the container immediately before being used. The dismounted coupling parts must be removed from the danger zone immediately following repair work. 3. When transporting entire couplings or coupling-brake-systems, the coupling parts must be protected in such a manner that they do not constitute a source of danger in potentially explosive areas. E 3.7 Storage of Elastomer Buffer Rings / Coupling Parts The following storage conditions have been defined to retain the quality / to achieve as long a service life as possible: The coupling parts can be stored in their delivered state in a dry and roofed area at normal ambient temperatures for a period of 6 months. Storage for a longer period requires the application of a long-term preservation product (please consult tz in this respect.). Do not expose the elastomer buffer rings to an atmosphere containing ozone. Ozonegenerating devices such as all light sources which emit ultraviolet radiation and high-voltage electrical systems have a harmful effect on the elastomer buffer rings. Dimmed light should be used. The storage areas must not be exposed to direct sunlight. Windows are to be coated with a red or orange protective paint (never use blue paint). The relative air humidity should not exceed 65%. If properly stored, the characteristics of the elastomer buffer rings remain almost unchanged for up to three years. MBA tz ; Status: 20/06/2011; Index: f Page 23

Installation 3.8 Replacement of Elastomer Buffer Rings WARNING! Always turn off the motor prior to any work on the coupling! Secure motor against accidental activation! Remove cover or coupling guard. Using tz circlip pliers, open the lock rings (5) and push it to the hub end (1.1) or (1.2) to the greatest extent possible. Also push the tz lock rings (4) to the end of the hub. Using a lever, push the divided elastomer buffer rings (3) out of the coupling claws and remove. Provide new elastomer buffer rings (3) with suitable lubricant (e.g. talcum powder for buna NPb, commercially available antifriction bearing grease for polyurethane Vk) and reinstall in reverse order. Reinstall cover or coupling guard. 3.9 Spare Parts Spare Part Size, Construction Type Spare Part Article No. VKB elastomer buffer ring 230SSV/DU VB0 00G VKG elastomer buffer ring 230SSV/DU VG0 00G VKR elastomer buffer ring 230SSV/DU VR0 00G VKB elastomer buffer ring 260SSV/DU VB0 00G VKG elastomer buffer ring 230SSV/DU VG0 00G VKR elastomer buffer ring 260SSV/DU VR0 00G VKB elastomer buffer ring 300SSV/DU VB0 00G VKG elastomer buffer ring 230SSV/DU VG0 00G VKR elastomer buffer ring 300SSV/DU VR0 00G VKB elastomer buffer ring 360SSV/DU VB0 00G VKG elastomer buffer ring 230SSV/DU VG0 00G VKR elastomer buffer ring 360SSV/DU VR0 00G Table 7: Spare parts MBA tz ; Status: 20/06/2011; Index: f Page 24
