Your Auto-Mate II is a machine that if used to its capability will speed the process of reloading, and for those with physical impairments, will allow you to once again be able to load your own shot shells. 4 Section 1. Safety Information General The Auto-Mate II is a unique product in that it is designed to work in concert with equipment and reloading components designed and manufactured by companies other than American Target Systems, Inc. It is therefore of up-most importance to read, fully understand, and strictly follow the operation, user, and safety information for ALL the equipment and reloading components that you will be using in the reloading process. Millions of men and women reload ammunition as a hobby, or because the cost savings allow them to enjoy shooting more often. You should always reload so that the safest and most accurate loads on the shooting line will be yours, and always remember that to become or to continue to be a safe reloader, you must be careful at all times. Checking powder and shot charges with a reliable scale is a must, and will disclose if you have any variations in weights. Adhering to loads recommended by the powder manufacturer is a must. Always wear safety glasses! On your machine and in this operator s manual safety labels and statements contain the words DANGER for the most serious hazards and CAUTION to call attention to safety messages. DANGER CAUTION Electrical (1) To avoid electrical shock, which can cause severe personal, injury or death do not cut or remove the round grounding prong from the plug. Machine must be grounded at all times. Do not remove warning tag from power cord. Do not use a two-prong adapter. Do not use an extension cord. Electrical Grounding Instructions - This machine is equipped with a three-prong (grounding) plug for protection against possible shock hazards. If you encounter a two prong receptacle, contact a qualified electrician and have the two-prong wall receptacle replaced with a properly grounded three-prong wall receptacle in accordance with the National Electrical Code. Machine is designed to operate on a separate 110 to 120 volt. 15 amp.. 60 cycle line. (2) Avoid contact with energized circuits. 4

5 Safety Information Electrical Cont d (3) Do not depend on motor control devices (switches, etc.) to prevent unexpected motor starting. Always disconnect power source before working on or adjusting machine. (4) Protect the power cable: don't let it touch sharp objects, hot surfaces, oil, grease, or chemicals. Do not kink the power cable. DANGER (5) DO NOT USE THIS EQUIPMENT IN AN AREA WHERE EXPLOSIVE VAPORS ARE PRESENT. CAUTION (6) DISCONNECT POWER SUPPLY BEFORE SERVICING, OR MAKING ANY ADJUSTMENTS. Mechanical DANGER (1) KEEPS HANDS AND FINGERS CLEAR OF ALL MOVING PARTS. (2) Your machine is quite heavy. Be sure use your Auto-Mate II on structurally sound table or bench. 5

6 Section 2. Install Your Reloader ALL STEPS IN THIS SEQUENCE ARE THE SAME REGARDLESS OF YOUR RELOADER BRAND. OR MODEL STEP 1 Remove motor cover. STEP 2 Take one of the plastic bags that protected your Auto-Mate in shipment, smooth it out, and lay over the Slip Stop area on the top of your Auto-Mate. This will greatly help you position your loader on the top of the Auto-Mate. STEP 3 Remove set screw and handle from your reloader. 6

STEP 4 Locate the Auto-Mate drive coupling pin in your parts kit and install in the same shaft hole that you

You may need to rotate the Auto-Mate drive coupling for proper alignment.

7 STEP 4 Locate the Auto-Mate drive coupling pin in your parts kit and install in the same shaft hole that you removed your handle from. Reinstall set screw. STEP 5 Set your reloader on top of plastic sheet previously positioned on Auto-Mate top. STEP 6 Slide your reloader to the right to join the Auto-Mate drive coupling with your reloader. You may need to rotate the Auto-Mate drive coupling for proper alignment. NOTE: THE AUTO-MATE DRIVE COUPLER CENTERING WAS PRESET AT THE FACTORY FOR YOUR LOADER TYPE. YOUR LOADER SHOULD SLIDE INTO POSITION WITH RELATIVE EASE. IF YOUR LOADER DOES NOT ALIGN PROPERLY WITH THE AUTO-MATE DRIVE COUPLER, SEE SECTION 3 FOR THE ALIGNMENT ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE. 7

STEP 7 With one hand gently lift up the left

8 STEP 7 With one hand gently lift up the left side of your loader and with the other hand slide the plastic bag from under your loader.. STEP 8 With a 5/32 Hex Wrench install the (4) four loader hold downs screws supplied in your parts kit. STEP 9 Reinstall the drive motor cover. 8

Section 3. Normal Operation Functions STEP 1 Turn power switch on.

You will need to do this every time you start a reloading session.

NOTE: On some P/W models the drive motor will briefly run when you initialize to kick

9 Section 3. Normal Operation Functions STEP 1 Turn power switch on. STEP 2 Momentarily push the right push button to initialize the drive system. You will need to do this every time you start a reloading session. It is NOT necessary to do this again once you have begun normal reloading operations NOTE: On some P/W models the drive motor will briefly run when you initialize to kick out the wad guide. STEP 3 To start a loading stroke and send the shell carrier up, push both the Right and Left push buttons simultaneously. 9

10 STEP 4 To return the shell carrier to the down position, push either the Right, or Left push button. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PUSH BOTH BUTTONS TO RETURN THE SHELL CARRIER DOWN, ONLY ONE. Emergency Stop and Reverse Drive Function During the upstroke if you momentarily press the Left, or Right push button the drive motor will stop and the motor brake will be applied holding your loader in that position. While the Auto-Mate is in E- Stop you can continue driving the loader turret up incrementally by pressing the Right push button, or back down with the Left push button. In either case the Auto-Mate will stop driving when it hits either the top, or bottom stop switch. During the down stroke the same features apply. DANGER When the Auto-Mate is in E-Stop mode the motor brake will hold the loader in position for one (1) minute, and then it WILL RELEASE AUTOMATICALLY. This feature is necessary to prevent the motor brake controls from over heating. If this occurs it WILL PRODUCE UNEXPECTED MOVEMENT OF YOUR RELOADER THAT COULD CAUSE POTENTIAL INJURY. Drive Stop Limits The drive Stop Limits were precisely set at the factory for your loader type. On occasion these travel limits may need some fine tuning for your specific reloader. If during normal reloading cycles your loader is traveling too much, or too little in one direction, or the other, see Section 5 for fine tuning these settings. 10

loosen the four motor mount bolts with a 7/16 socket on an extension.

Adjust until the drive coupler centers on the main shaft of your loader.

11 Section 4. Adjust Drive Coupler Centering Front to Back Slots STEP 1 To change the drive centering from front to back loosen the four motor mount bolts with a 7/16 socket on an extension. The motor mount will then move front to back in the slots cut in the motor mount. Adjust until the drive coupler centers on the main shaft of your loader. STEP 2 To change the drive centering from top to bottom, loosen the four motor mount bolts with a 10mm socket on an extension. Top to Bottom Slots STEP 3 The motor will then move top to bottom in the slots cut in the motor mount. Adjust until the drive coupler centers on the main shaft of your loader. 11

Section 5. Adjust Drive Stop Limits STEP 4 Remove the drive motor cover to expose the drive motor coupling. You will find plastic collars marked TOP and BOTTOM.

By rotating these collars in one direction, or the other, the drive travel will increase, or decrease. To adjust the travel, loosen the nylon set screw in the collar. Rotate the in the + direction to increase the travel in the desired direction, or - to decrease the travel in the desired direction. CAUTION THIS IS A PRECISION ADJUSTMENT! THINK CAREFULLY ABOUT THE DESIRED OUTCOME BEFORE YOU CHANGE THE ADJUSTMENT. DO NOT ROTATE THE ADJUSTMENT COLLARS MORE THAN 1/16 WITHOUT CHECKING THE OUTCOME PRODUCED. FINGER TIGHTEN THE ADJUSTMENT COLLAR SET SCREWS ONLY! Adjustment Example (Your reloader is traveling to far and hitting the BOTTOM STOP to hard) Loosen the set screw on the BOTTOM collar and rotate the collar toward the - sign. (The Rear of The Auto-Mate) no more than 1/16. Finger tighten the set screw. Run a test cycle. If the problem is solved, no more adjustment is needed. If the Reloader is still hitting the BOTTOM STOP to hard, repeat the above procedure until satisfactory drive travel is achieved. 12

STEP 3 REMOVE FUSE FROM FUSE HOLDER AND REPLACE WITH A FUSE THAT MATCHES FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. ( SEE BELOW) 3AG 250V.

13 Section 6 Fuse Replacement STEP 1 REMOVE POWER CORD! STEP 2 TO EXPOSE FUSE. WITH A SMALL STANDARD SCREW DRIVER PUSH IN WHILE TURNING COUNTER CLOCKWISE. STEP 3 REMOVE FUSE FROM FUSE HOLDER AND REPLACE WITH A FUSE THAT MATCHES FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS. ( SEE BELOW) 3AG 250V.75 AMP FAST ACTING NOTE: DO NOT USE RADIO SHACK BRAND FUSES FOR REPLACEMENT. THEY WILL BLO AT A VALUE FAR BELOW THE RATED AMPERAGE. WE WILL PROVIDE FUSES FREE OF CHARGE IF YOU CALL US. IT IS CRITICALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOUR SYSTEM HAS THE CORRECT FUSE INSTALLED. 13
