4 Engine/Drivetrain n Extensive engine redesign includes new valve lift and timing for more power and higher engine speeds, with max revs raised from 12,250 to 13,000 rpm compared to standard model. n Piston thickness optimized to boost compression ratio from 12.3:1 to 13.0:1 with no weight increase. n Piston rings have diamond-like Carbon (dlc) coating that improves sealing. n throttle By wire (tbw) system uses a newly developed Accelerator Position sensor (APs) in the grip to improve throttle response and rideability. this is the first application of APs on a honda inline four. n Electronics include three preset modes that change engine and suspension damping settings. mode 1 is best for track days, mode 2 is best for twisting roads, and mode 3 is best for commuting and general street riding. Additionally, riders can adjust everything separately five different power levels, nine honda torque Control (hstc) levels, six different suspension modes, and three different engine braking levels. Riders can also elect to turn the hstc system off completely. n A new induction system, airbox and larger 48mm throttle body (up 2mm in bore size) improve airflow for more power. n Fuel-discharge pressure increased 14 percent to promote fuel atomization and raise combustion efficiency, and new intake funnels with a slash-cut design also help throttle response. n magnesium construction for the valve cover, oil pan and ignition cover contribute to a 4.4-pound reduction in engine weight. n the titanium muffler s double-pipe structure and variable exhaust valve boost power throughout the rev range and also produce a stirring sound. Chassis/Suspension n the all-new hollow die-cast aluminum twin-spar frame and Pro-link alloy rear swingarm both have 10 percent more rigidity for even more precise handling (see Technology Section). Riders can access the settings screen to fine-tune suspension by pushing the MODE button and one of the select (SEL) arrows at the same time. n Frame and swingarm together are stronger yet 600 grams (21.2 ounces) lighter. n New die-cast aluminum subframe is strong yet 800 grams (28.2 ounces) lighter. n New technology incorporated into the ABs calculates body bank angle using information from the five-axis imu and then controls braking force according to bank angle to maintain excellent body stability when braking in a corner. n imu also provides rear-wheel lift control under braking for maximum grip in and out of corners. n Narrow titanium fuel tank dramatically reduces the width of the bike at the seat/tank junction, making it easier for the rider to move around on the bike. n New wheels feature five Y-spokes instead of six for improved aerodynamic stability, while thickness has been reduced to cut weight by approximately 100 grams (3.5 ounces). n New narrower radiator incorporates a highdensity core that achieves excellent heat dissipation while reducing width by 0.94 inch and weight by approximately 100 grams (3.5 ounces) overall. n less weight and greater mass centralization set handling standards for the liter-bike class and make this the most agile-handling CBR1000RR ever produced.
