Our Annual picnic was a big success. Thanks again to all who came and to all those who helped. We had 35 participants form members to family and guest attend. John and Debbie had a screened awning which saved the day from the flies. The weather was beautiful. I must admit Wayne was the overall winner in horse shoe throwing, even in the dark. Bob & John made breakfast burritos that were awesome. The sweet rolls were non -fattening, maybe! The mountain biking was awesome, even though I could not keep up with the Hoffman s. The strawberry shortcake that the Stout s brought was kind of MUSTY, meaning I musty have another bite! John cooks an out-of-sight hot dog and the burgers made a hit too! Thanks to Jerry who had the perfect portable trash can. We have WT Homecoming on 10/08/2016. I will get us registered to ride our motorcycles in the parade. It is normally at 10-to 11AM on Saturday morning. Have fun and decorate your bike in WT colors! We also have the Veterans Day Parade coming up on November 5 th and the Electric Light Parade on December 2 nd. Our Christmas Party will be at our December gathering on the 9 th of December at Dyer s BBQ. That s all for now, see you at our October gathering on the 13 th. Glenn & Judy Chapter A Directors

4 Membership Enhancement Coordinators / Couple of the Year Betty and Bill Hisey The opening day of the annual Tri-State Fair always starts with a parade down town in Amarillo, TX. This year, the parade began with an outstanding display of motorcycling skill by the police drill team from Indianapolis. Indiana. Their close order riding was very precise and it was plain to see they had put in the time and effort to be very good at controlling their machines. I also noticed how sharp they looked. They had polished bikes and boots, pressed, neat uniforms and everything about them looked really good. A friend told us, "It's fun to watch these guys load their service bikes in their double deck semi trailer." We missed that. The bands and floats and other entries in the parade entertained the large crowd watching but Betty and I really enjoyed the motorcycle police from Indiana. That afternoon, our chapter met at Palo Duro Canyon for our annual picnic. It was a beautiful day for friends, fun and food. 5 Educator s Corner Page 5 John Walker, Chapter Educator reprinted from September 2016 THE MOST BEAUTIFUL RIDE TIME OF THE YEAR Well, Summer has passed (finally) and that time we call Indian Summer is here. We don t have much of a Fall in Amarillo, but the most beautiful ride time of the year is upon us before that Norther Weekend hits us and then it s winter again. There are some things we have noted in articles this past year that we should review again as we prepare our riding gear and bikes for some really beautiful and comfortable rides. 1. With temperature changes (as with elevation) your tire pressure will change. Make certain that you have proper and optimal air pressure in your tires before each day s ride. 2. Hydration is still very important to the rider, even though you are not perspiring, you are still evaporating moisture from your skin, so proper hydration remains important to your health and ability to make quick decisions during your ride. 3. School is back in session and we usually see a drop in the number of vehicles on the road with us. This is a very important time to make yourself be vigilant to your surroundings, your mirrors and the road in front of you. Never allow yourself to lull off between rest stops. We must know who we are sharing the road with and where he is at all times. Remaining alert and paying attention to what is all the way around us at all times can serve to help each of us avoid becoming a casualty in a crash 4. Think constantly about your available routes of escape and evasive actions you could take if necessary. Position yourself in the proper lane of travel to access those routes of escape or evasive actions. 5. Remember that your best chance of survival comes from shedding as much speed as possible precollision and never laying your bike down. 6. Slow In, Fast Out is the effective rule in taking curves. If riding in areas that are heavy with foliage, be vigilant with leaves (wet or dry) and watch out for those slippery pine needles. Enter the corner wide, then pick up speed on the way out. Give riders in front of you plenty of room to adjust their speed (cushion of safety), and don t panic. Hold your lean angle and ride it out. 7. Plan well, ride sensibly, and have yet another great riding season... Indian Summer Ride Safely and Be Alert, John Walker, Rider Education

12 HISTORY OF THE HONDA GOLDWING Page 12 A several-months-long, on-going article about the history of the machine that gives our club it s name. Honda marks the Wing's 10th anniversary in two significant ways. First, with the Gold Wing so firmly entrenched within the touring realm, Honda decides to drop the standard, unfaired GL1200. Second, an ultra-luxurious Limited Edition arrives, complete with computerized fuel injection, four-speaker sound system, cruise control, auto-leveling rear suspension, a comprehensive electronic travel computer, and special metallic gold paint. Following the success of its Marysville Motorcycle Plant, Honda builds an engine plant in nearby Anna, Ohio, to build Gold Wing engines. Just as Marysville's success paved the way for Honda's auto manufacturing in America, the Anna Engine Plant moved from manufacturing GL engines alone to building powerplants for Civics and Accords. At Anna, all the casting, forging, machining and heat-treating processes necessary to turn raw materials into finished, sophisticated engines reside under one roof.
