1 Spare Tire G mach ברוך ה' As we all know, our Spare Tire G Mach has opened just a few months ago and already we were able to save many people much עגמת נפש and money. Due to car manufacturers trying to be fuel efficient (& cheap) more & more of the newer cars aren t provided with spare tires or the tools to change it, as this was limiting our ability assist people, the Spare Tire G mach is hopefully the solution for this dilemma. We currently have a collection of over 60 Spare (donuts & full size) Tires from various makes and models, and counting. If you, or someone you know has a Spare Tire or is junking a car, please refer them to the Tire G Mach that can be The Spare Tire G Mach is intended to help those who are TRULY STRANDED. Truly stranded includes those who need to reach a destination and whose car comes without a Spare Tire, who have a double flat or whose Spare Tire is found to be dysfunctional. Truly stranded EXCLUDES those who drive around knowing they don t have a Spare Tire or those who have already reached their destination. Also, the Spare Tires are to be lent with the understanding and on condition that they will be returned at the earliest possibility. This would exclude a Rental car that needs to be returned. INFO GATHERED RELATED TO CARS AND THEIR SPARE TIRES Unfortunately, there are too many details needed to be aware of when it comes to matching up a tire from one model car to another. However, if we can be aware of some of the basics it can be helpful. There are 3 important factors which will determine if a tire will fit on the car: 1) Tire Size - The actual size of the rubber tire Look up tire sizes! 2) Lugs - The lugs (screws) will need to match up with the holes in the rim. 3) Rims - The shape of the rim needs to fit properly around the brake system. 1 Spare Tire G mach Handbook May 2014

Factor #1: Tire Size - The rubber tire is comprised of 3 series of #s. These are the dimensions of the tire. In this figure, (e.g. 215/75/16) A. Width = 215mm (millimeters). B.

Factor #2: Lugs - Some cars of the same exact make & model may still have different amount of lugs. The Chevy Uplander & Astro have some with 5 lugs and others with 6.

2 Factor #1: Tire Size - The rubber tire is comprised of 3 series of #s. These are the dimensions of the tire. In this figure, (e.g. 215/75/16) A. Width = 215mm (millimeters). B. Height = 75% of 215 mm C. Rim diameter = 16 inches. The location of the label with the sizes of the full size tire and the Spare Tire is usually by the driver s door. It has been spotted in other spots, such as under the trunk lid. If the two tire sizes aren t matching up (e.g. Tire 1 is: 215/70/16 and tire 2 is: 205/70/16) it can occasionally still be used TEMPORARILY, provided that factors # 2 & 3 are in order. Factor #2: Lugs - Some cars of the same exact make & model may still have different amount of lugs. The Chevy Uplander & Astro have some with 5 lugs and others with 6. Usually 12 & 15 Passenger Vans have 8 lugs, but there are some that have 6 or even 5. Factor #3: There are many vehicles that may have rims that are compatible to each other, since they re manufactured by the same parent company. For example; Dodge and Chrysler from certain years will all have the exact same shaped rim, in addition the spare tire will also be the exact same size. There re of course variations from year to year. There is one year that the Volkswagen Routan is the same as the Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Caravan. Matching up a tire to a different make or model isn t recommended! Use caution and advise them that it s on their own responsibility. Interestingly, the Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac Montana, Saturn Relay and Buick Terazza are almost identical. We have acquired a Spare Tire from a Saturn Relay with 6 lugs which should fit on any of these cars. Sometimes when taking a Spare Tire from one car and putting it on another, everything could look right and fit, but when the car is driven, a rubbing noise will be heard not a match. 2 Spare Tire G mach Handbook May 2014

3 Cars That May Not Have a Spare Tire The Toyota Sienna AWD is a commonly seen car in the Heimishe Communities and it comes without a Spare Tire. It does come with expensive Run Flat Tires. These tires are made to withstand the abuse that even when flat they can be driven on for up to 100 miles at speeds up to 55 MPH. The spare tire from the non AWD Sienna will NOT fit on the AWD Sienna due to factor # 3. The new Acura RLX is becoming a popular car. By default we found out that the Spare Tire from the newer Honda Odyssey will fit on the RLX. Unit 56 lent his 2012 Odyssey Spare tire to someone with an RLX and because the Car comes without tools to change a flat the Party needed our help to do the Tire change. In addition; that is how we found out that this same party had 4 times Flat Tires (including once on the PIP and once on the GSP) and each time used unit 56s Spare Tire. (It is not clear, if at this time unit 56 has his Spare Tire back.) 2014 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Caravan come with the mechanism for the Spare Tire, however often the actual Spare is missing. [Either because the dealers occasionally take them, or, by a Lease; there is a choice to have a GPS or a Spare Tire, if both of them are wanted there is an extra charge. The Spare Tire from the 2011 and up fit. Our G Mach has not acquired one yet. If you have any ideas please let us know. The Tires on these cars are not Run Flat. Another car that comes without a Spare Tire is the new Hyundai Elantra. For this car we have found out by default (trying the Spare Tires of a few cars until [not recommended]): the Spare Tire of a 2003 Chevy Impala fit on and the Party drove from Monsey to Monroe without any incident. 3 Spare Tire G mach Handbook May 2014
