21 Product Highlights: V-8 Engine G550 Only The M176 is a gas engine with twin turbocharging and hot inside 'V'. It is based on the new generation of the V8 engine family from AMG. The company already successfully introduced it as the M178 sports car engine (dry sump) in the Mercedes-AMG GT and as the M177 in the Mercedes-AMG C 63. The M177 has been comprehensively modified and is being used for the first time in the Mercedes-Benz G 500 as the M hp (34 hp increase from MY15 G550) 450 lb-ft. (59 lb-ft. increase from MY15 G550) 30

22 Product Highlights: Adjustable Suspension Optional for G550 With the adjustable damping, at the touch of a button the driver can choose between the two damping programs of "Comfort" and "Sport" for on-demand shock absorber force. The Comfort setting is available as the standard stetting. In addition, depending on the driving situation, ESP is able to select harsh characteristics independently of the driver's requirements. This requirement occurs in order to make the vehicle more stable in dynamic driving situations and delay intervention in terms of the engine management system or brake actuation. The driver's requirements are retained when ESP is deactivated. 31

23 Product Highlights: Distance Pilot DISTRONIC Standard on all models 32 When the system is activated using the familiar cruise control stalk (governed range from 19 to 124 mph, and from 0 to 124 mph if a vehicle is detected ahead), a radar sensor calculates the distance between the source vehicle and the vehicle in front, computes the necessary vehicle deceleration or acceleration, and transmits this information to the control unit. This control unit then governs engine output, applies the brakes or changes gear to help keep the vehicle at the set safe distance when approaching a slower vehicle in front. The degree of automatic deceleration is limited, partly to avoid endangering the traffic behind, and an audible warning is sounded if necessary to instruct the driver to take action (e.g. apply the brakes). If DISTRONIC detects that the vehicle ahead is coming to a stop, it brakes the vehicle to a halt. In such cases, the system is switched off and can subsequently be reactivated, provided the vehicle is within the governed speed range.
