2 M. F. M. Mazelan et al. J Fundam Appl Sci. 2018, 10(6S), INTRODUCTION AND LITERATURE REVIEW According to (1), function of air conditioning system is to maintain set temperature by cooling when room temperature increase above the set temperature and heating when the room temperature decrease below the set temperature. Inverter type air conditioning system used less energy to operate compared to non-inverter type air conditioning system. It is because for non-inverter type air conditioners, motor speed will remains constant at full speed and temperature is adjusted by turning the motor on and off while for inverter type air conditioners, temperature is adjusted by changing motor speed without turning the motor on and off [1]. By opting to use inverter type air conditioner, since we can save more energy, we can also can do saving in term of operational cost and bill payment. This is parallel to Malaysian government energy efficiency policy that has been discuss by [2-4]. Although it is clear that inverter type air conditioner used less energy compared to non-inverter type air conditioner, setup cost of inverter type air conditioner are significantly higher compared to non-inverter type air conditioner due to higher price per unit in market for the time being. This statement is supported by price that has been quoted in [5-6]. 2. METHODOLOGY 2.1. Market Survey Market survey has been done to identify 1 horse power rated air conditioner that are available in Malaysia. This survey covers on the price per unit of air conditioner, installation cost and service cost. In order to be fair with the price, price used in this article for air conditioner unit were only taken in one of the biggest mass merchandise outlet in Malaysia which covers almost all states in Malaysia. Since some of the outlet did not have their own authorize installer, so any discount related to installation is not counted in this article Total Operational Cost Analysis Total cost analysis has been carried out in order to find, which model offer the best solution for total operation time of 5 years. Total operation time of 5 years has been chosen since full warranty (parts and labor) for air conditioner unit in Malaysian market can be extended up to 5 years. Comparison between same brands (Sharp, Toshiba, Beko, etc.) and same type (inverter and non-inverter type) has been done.
3 M. F. M. Mazelan et al. J Fundam Appl Sci. 2018, 10(6S), In order to estimate electricity usage of each model, data on average energy consumption of each model and electricity tariff for home usage in Malaysia has been identified. Average energy consumption per year of each model can be identified from energy efficiency label as mention by [2-7]. Fig.1. Energy efficiency label in Malaysia [7] Data on electricity tariff for home usage that has been quoted by Tenaga National Berhad (TNB) are as in Fig. 2. Fig.2. Electricity tariff for home usage in Malaysia [8]
