14 Economical Fuel Savings Concepts Current cost/gallon: $ container moves/hour = 5.2 gallons Cost/hour: $ Cost/year: $ 58,606 Current cost/kwh: $ container moves/hour = 35 kw Cost/hour: $ 3.15 Cost/year: $ 11,340 Even with current oil prices being much lower than during peak 2008, electrification produces significant cost savings for energy of up to 80%. Additional savings for the reduction in maintenance costs associated with diesel generators: Typical numbers are: Maintenance cost per operating hours ($2.55 per hour) Tier 4 Diesel 25,000 hours ($6.00 per hour) 14

15 Environmental CO 2 Emissions in Ports Diesel RTG CO 2 emissions/year: Electric RTG CO 2 emissions/year: 1,000,900 pounds 414,470 pounds In reality, E-RTG s run on about 90% electric and 10% diesel (block changes and maintenance). Therefore: E-RTG = 474,000 pounds of CO 2 per year CO 2 reduction of ~52% 15

19 Summarizing Garden City Terminal s ertg Plan GPA will be constructing an ertg demonstration project beginning August 1st Initial phase will be to test two ertgs in a backto-back arrangement beginning about September 30th Next phase will be to test four ertg cranes across 4-stacks utilizing the automatic drive-in feature ertg Intent is to then begin implementation of the ertg concept to all of container berths CB1, 2, and 3 during FY 2014 All of the Garden City Terminal will be converted to ertgs over the next four years 19
