1 Sola 3000 Guide Specifications CSI Static Uninterruptible Power Supply Systems - Sola 3000 Guide Specifications for a 700 to 2200 VA Single - Phase Uninterruptible Power Supply System 1.0 GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY This specification defines the electrical and mechanical characteristics and requirements for a continuous-duty single-phase, solid state, uninterruptible power system. The uninterruptible power system, hereafter referred to as the UPS, shall provide high-quality AC power for electronic equipment loads. 1.2 STANDARDS The UPS shall be designed in accordance with the applicable sections of the current revision of the following documents. Where a conflict arises between these documents and statements made herein, the statements in this specification shall govern. 120V Units UL Standard 1778 FCC Part 15, Class A IEEE 587, Category A C-UL (to CSA 22.2 No ) National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) ISTA Project 1A 230V Units EN (Incorporating EN60950) TUV/GS Listed EMC- EN (Incorporating) EN 55022, Class B IEC 801-2, Level 4 IEC 801-3, Level 3 IEC 801-5, Level 2 CE compliance mark, For both Low Voltage and EMC Directives ISTA Project 1A 1.3 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION Modes of Operation The UPS shall be designed to operate as a line interactive system in the following modes: A. Normal - The critical AC load is continuously supplied with filtered power. The battery charger shall maintain a float-charge on the battery. 1

Voltage Boost/Buck - During input power source abnormalities (sags and swells), the AC output power shall be corrected by means of boost (sag correction) or buck (swell correction) compensation taps. Operation of the compensation taps shall be seamless and automatically maintain the proper output voltage for the connected critical equipment. The compensation taps shall be designed for indefinite operation to their limits, operation of the compensation taps shall not discharge the battery. C. Battery - When the input power source exceeds the parameters defined in section A, the critical AC load shall be supplied power by the inverter which obtains its power from the battery. Detection and transfer time shall be 2-6 ms. D. Recharge - Upon restoration of utility the input power source within specified parameters, the critical AC load shall be supplied with filtered power and the battery charger shall simultaneously recharge the battery. E. Automatic Restart- Upon restoration of the input power source, after a complete battery discharge, the UPS shall automatically restart and supply filtered power to the critical load. The bi-directional converter shall simultaneous recharge the battery. F. Dark Start- The UPS shall be capable of starting without input power available. The unit shall start up and operate from the battery Design Requirements A. Voltage: Input/Output voltage specifications of the UPS shall be: Input 120V units: 0 to 160 VAC, 50/60 Hz, single-phase, 2-wire-plus-ground. 230V units: 0 to 300 VAC, 50/60 Hz, single phase, 2-wire-plus-ground Output 120V units: VAC, 50/60 Hz, single-phase, 2-wire-plus-ground. 230V units: VAC, 50/60 Hz, single-phase, 2-wire-plus-ground B. Output Load Capacity: Maximum specified output load capacity of the UPS, regardless of load power factor, shall be: 700VA/450W 1000VA/670W 1400VA/950W 2200VA/1600W C. Internal Battery: The battery shall consist of valve regulated, lead acid cells. D. Backup Time: 5 minutes at full load with ambient temperature at 25 deg C (77 deg F). E. Battery Recharge: he recharge time shall be 3 hours (5 hours for 1400 VA / 120 VAC) to 95% capacity after discharged into a full load Performance Requirements AC Input to UPS A. Voltage Configuration: 120VAC; +23%, -25% (90 to 148 VAC), single phase, 2-wire-plus-ground 230VAC; +17%, -27% (166 to 272 VAC), single phase, 2-wire-plus-ground 2

Frequency: UPS auto senses input frequency and will operate within the following frequency specifications. 50 Hz Units: Hz 60 Hz Unit: Hz When the input frequency exceeds these parameters, the UPS shall operate from the battery. C. Surge Protection: 120 VAC Nominal units shall Sustain input surges without damage per criteria listed in ANSI C IEEE 587, Category A. 230 VAC nominal units shall sustain input surge without damage per criteria Listed in IEC 801-5, Level 3. D. Input: 120 VAC units The 700 VA model shall have a detachable input cord. The detachable input cord with the 700 VA shall be 6.0 feet (1.8 meters) in length, measured between the inside edges of the connectors. The detachable cord shall contain an IEC A type receptacle on one end and a NEMA 5-15 plug on the other. The 1000 and 1400 VA models shall have an attached cord with a NEMA 5-15P plug. The 2200 VA model shall have an attached cord with a NEMA L5-30P plug. The attached cord shall be 6.0 feet (1.8 meters) in length, measured from the outside edge of the UPS case to the nearest edge of the plug connector. 230 VAC units The input for the 700, 1000, and 1400 VA models shall have a IEC A recessed plug. The input for the 2200 VA model shall have an IEC A recessed plug AC Output, Normal Operation A. Voltage Configuration: 120V unit: VAC, single-phase, 2-wire-plus-ground. 230V unit: VAC, single-phase, 2-wire-plus-ground. B. Voltage Regulation: 120V Units: +10/-14% 230V Units: +8/-19% C. Frequency Regulation: 50 Hz Operation: 50Hz +/- 10% 0 Hz +/- 8% D. Load Power Factor Range: 0.5 lagging to 1.0 unity E. Output Power Rating: Maximum specified output load capacity of the UPS, regardless of load power factor, shall be: 700VA/450W 1000VA/670W 1400VA/950W 2200VA/1600W F. Overload Capability: 110% for 5 minutes 3

Frequency Regulation: +/- 0.5 Hz D. Frequency Sync. Rate: +/-5 Hz E. Frequency Slew Rate: 1 Hz per second F. Voltage Distortion: Resistive Loads: 10% before (2) minute warning; 15% after pre-alarm Switching Mode Power Supply (SMPS): 16% before 2 minute warning, 20% after pre-alarm G. Load Power Factor Range: 0.5 lagging to 1.0 unity H. Output Power Rating: Maximum specified output load capacity of the UPS, regardless of load power factor, shall be: 700VA/450W 1000VA/670W 1400VA/950W 2200VA/1600W I. Overload Capability: 110% for 30 seconds J. Voltage Transient Response: +/- 7% maximum for 20%-100%-20% load step K. Transient Recovery Time: To within nominal voltage within 30 milliseconds. 1.4 ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS A. Ambient Temperature Operating: 0 deg C to +40 deg C (+ 32 deg F to deg F) for altitudes 0 to 1500 meters (0 to 5000 ft.) above sea level 0 deg C to +35 deg C (+ 32 deg F to + 95 deg F) for altitudes 1500 to 3000 meters (5000 to 10,000 ft.) above sea level 25 deg C (+ 77 deg F) for optimum battery performance Storage: 15 deg C to +50 deg C (+ 5 deg F to +122 deg F) 20 deg C (+ 68 deg F) for optimum battery storage. B. Relative Humidity Operating: Storage: 0 to 95% non-condensing 0 to 95% non-condensing 4

5 C. Altitude Operating: Storage: 3000 m (10,000 ft max.) without power derating when operated within the temperature range specified in 1.4.A m (32,808 ft max) D. Audible Noise Noise generated by the UPS during any mode of operation shall not exceed 45 db measured at 1 meter from the surface of the UPS. 1.5 USER DOCUMENTATION The specified UPS shall be supplied with one (1) user s manual. Manuals shall include installation drawings and instructions, a functional description of the equipment with block diagrams, safety precautions, illustrations, step by step operating procedures, and general maintenance guidelines. 1.6 WARRANTY The UPS manufacturer shall warrant the UPS against defects in materials and workmanship for two (2) years. The warranty shall cover all parts and labor. An optional one (1) or three (3) year extended warranty shall be available from the manufacturer. 1.7 QUALITY ASSURANCE Manufacturer Qualifications A minimum of twenty years experience in the design, manufacture, and testing of solid-state UPS systems is required. The manufacturer shall be certified to ISO Factory Testing Before shipment, the manufacturer shall fully and completely test the system to assure compliance with the specification. These tests shall include operational discharge and recharge tests on the internal battery to assure performance. 2.0 PRODUCT 2.1 FABRICATION Wiring All materials and components making up the UPS shall be new, of current manufacture, and shall not have been in prior service except as required during factory testing. All active electronic devices shall be solidstate. All relays shall be provided with dust covers. Wiring practices, materials, and coding shall be in accordance with the requirements of the standards listed in section 1.2 and other applicable codes and standards. All power wiring shall be copper. 5

6 2.1.3 Cabinet The UPS unit, comprised of: bi-directional converter, regulating circuit, and battery consisting of the appropriate number of valve regulated battery cells, shall be housed in either a free-standing NEMA type 1 enclosure and shall meet the requirements of IP21. The UPS cabinet shall be cleaned, primed, and painted with the manufacturer's standard color. Dimensions shall be: 700 VA 1000 VA 1400 VA 2000 VA 5.51 (140mm) W x (366mm) D x 7 (178mm) H 6.77 (172mm) W x (465mm) D x 8.94 (227mm) H 6.77 (172mm) W x (465mm) D x 8.94 (227mm) H 7.56 (192mm) W x (502mm) D x (318mm) H Cooling The UPS shall be forced air cooled when required. Air intake shall be through the sides of the unit and exit out the rear. 2.2 COMPONENTS Power Train A. Input Protection The UPS shall have built-in protection against undervoltage, overcurrent, and overvoltage conditions including low-energy lightning surges, introduced on the primary input power source. The 120 VAC UPS modes shall sustain input surges without damage per criteria listed in ANSI C ; IEEE 587, Cat. A. The 230 VAC UPS modes shall sustain input surges without damage per criteria listed in IEC , Level 3. B. Bi-Directional Converter The bi-directional converter shall denote the solid-state equipment and controls to convert AC power to regulated DC power for battery charging and convert DC power from the battery to regulated and conditioned sinewave AC power for supporting the critical load. The bi-directional converter shall be transistorized, pulse width modulated (PWM) design. The bi-directional converter shall operate in the following modes: 1. In the normal mode of operation, the bi-directional converter shall maintain the battery system at a float charge. 2. In the battery mode of operation, the bi-directional converter shall convert DC power from the battery to regulated and conditioned sinewave AC power for supporting the critical load. 3. In the recharge mode of operation, the bi-directional converter shall convert AC power to regulated DC power to recharge the battery to 95% capacity within three (3) hours ((5) hours for 1400 VA / 120VAC) after discharge into a full load. C. Battery Recharge The UPS shall maintain a battery recharge rate designed to prolong battery life. The battery charger shall maintain a constant voltage and current charge and maintain the battery in a fully charged state. Recharge time shall be three (3) hours ((5) hours for 1400 VA / 120VAC) maximum to 95% capacity after discharge into a full load. 6

7 D. Bi-Directional Converter DC Protection The bi-directional converter shall be protected by the following DC shutdown levels: E. Output Protection DC Undervoltage Shutdown (End of Discharge) DC Undervoltage Warning (Low Battery Reserve); factory set at 2 minutes For "Faults" indications within the UPS; including short circuits and overloads. The UPS shall employ the following overcurrent protection methods depending upon mode of operation: Normal Mode - The UPS shall employ a Fuse ( with spare) for the 700VA or circuit protector (resettable) 1000, 1400,and 2200VA. Battery Mode - Electronic Current Limit F. Overload The UPS shall be capable of supplying current and voltage for overloads exceeding 100% and up to 110% of full load current for 5 minutes in normal mode. A visual indicator and audible alarm shall indicate overload operation. The bi-directional converter (Battery operation) shall be capable of supplying current and voltage for overloads exceeding 100% and up to 110% of full load current for 30 seconds. For greater currents or longer time duration, the UPS shall shut down to prevent damage to components and the connected equipment. G. Output Frequency The output frequency during normal operation shall follow the incoming power frequency within a +/- 8% (for 60 Hz operation) or +/- 10% (for 50 Hz operation) window. The output frequency of the bi-directional converter shall be controlled by an oscillator. The oscillator shall hold the output frequency to +/- 0.5 Hz for steady state and transient load conditions. H. Battery Over Discharge Protection To prevent battery damage from over discharging, the UPS control logic shall automatically raise the shutdown voltage set point based on lighter loading Display and Controls A. General The UPS shall provide the operator with both visual and audible status indicators. Visual indicators shall consist of two (2) individual LED s, one to indicate utility/battery operation and one to indicate UPS buck/boost condition. Visual indicators shall also include one (1) row of four (4) LED s to indicate the load/battery level. B. Utility/Battery Status Indicator This LED shall be used to provide operation mode status of the UPS. When operating from input AC power and the main On/Off switch is on, this LED shall illuminate green. In the absence of input AC power (battery mode operation) this LED shall flash on/off for 1.0 second, every second. C. Utility High/Low status indicator This LED shall be used to provide buck/boost operation of the UPS, and shall illuminate amber (yellow). 7

8 D. Fault status indicator The UPS shall flash on/off (0.5 second, every second) the C (second from top) load/battery level indicator to indicate a UPS fault condition. In addition to the C (second from top) load/battery level LED being illuminated (flashing), one or more additional load/battery level LED segments will also be illuminated to provide a diagnostic aid to the operator, as described below: 25% 50% 75% 100% Utility Utility H/L A B C D bottom top Load/battery level A. UPS failed battery test B&D. UPS shutdown due to command from communication (RS232 or SNMP) port E. Load/Battery Level Indicator This four (4) segment LED bar shall be used to indicate the relative load on the UPS output and battery capacity level, determined by the mode of operation. The LED s shall illuminate green whenever the UPS is operating from input AC power or when the UPS is operating from battery power. During utility operation, the UPS output load level will be indicated in 25% increments as follows: 1% to 25% 26% to 50% 51% to 75% 76% to 100% To indicate operation with more than 110% load the top most LED indicator will flash on and off for 0.25 second, every second in addition to all segments being illuminated. An audible alarm shall also enunciate. During battery operation the UPS battery capacity level will be indicated in 25% increments as follows: 1% to 25% 26% to 50% 51% to 75% 76% to 100% To indicate low battery condition (approximately 2 minutes remaining) the Bottom most LED indicator will flash on and off for 0.5 second, every second. An audible alarm shall also enunciate a different tone (than the on battery tone) to indicate low battery condition 8

9 F. Audible Alarm An audible alarm shall be used in conjunction with the visual indicators to indicate to the operator a change in UPS operating status. The audible alarm shall enunciate as follows: Utility Line Loss Low Battery UPS Fault Overload Battery replacement 0.5 second beep, every 10 seconds 2 second beep, every 5 seconds Continuous 0.5 second beep, every 0.5 seconds 2 second beep, every 60 seconds All audible alarms shall be silenceable except low Battery Condition. Once silenced, the audible alarm shall not sound, until a new alarm condition is present. G. Controls The UPS shall contain front panel mounted main On/Off and alarm silence/manual battery test switches. The UPS shall also contain a microcontroller based monitoring and controls for reliable operation. The alarm silence/manual battery test switch shall be dual function that operates in the following manner: H. Alarm Silence Normal Mode: Battery test Battery Mode: Alarm silence Automatic Self Diagnostic Test The UPS shall perform three (3) different automatic self diagnostic tests as described below: A. Automatic self diagnostic test: Power ON The UPS must qualify the input power source voltage before initiating start-up. Qualification of the input power source shall consist of verifying the voltage is within start-up voltage range defined in section 4.1 of this specification. The 120 VAC UPS models shall check the voltage difference between neutral and ground terminals to determine if line and neutral are reversed or if ground is disconnected. A LED on the rear panel shall illuminate red for positive indication of a site wiring problem. For 230 VAC models, this feature is not incorporated due to reversible national plug systems Once the input AC power has been qualified and followed by the UPS being switched ON, the UPS shall perform start-up tests, consisting of an electronics and battery test, prior to enabling output power from the inverter. Should the UPS fail any start-up test, the output power shall not be enabled and fault signals (visual and audible) shall be enunciated. B. Automatic self diagnostic test: Auto-restart The UPS must qualify the input power source line voltage before auto-restarting. Auto-restart shall be defined as the restart of the UPS once input power has returned (and qualified) after the UPS has shutdown due to battery depletion. Once the input power has been qualified, the UPS shall perform auto-restart tests, consisting of an electronics and battery test, prior to enabling output power from the inverter. The auto-restart battery test shall just be a voltage check, to ensure the battery is present. Should the UPS fail any test, the output power shall not be enabled and fault signals (visual, audible, and remote via RS232) shall be enunciated.the auto-restart feature 9

10 shall be capable of being disabled by the operator through the serial (RS232) communications port or through the optional communications slot. When disabled the UPS shall not provide inverter output power until the main On/Off switch has been depressed The UPS shall recharge the batteries, once the utility power has been restored to parameters defined in section of this specification. The factory default shall have the auto-restart feature enabled. The auto-restart feature shall be capable of having a delay, determined by the operator and programmed through the serial (RS232) communications port or through the optional communications slot. This delay shall be defined in seconds and shall be the time period before output power will be made available after the UPS has been restarted. This feature shall only be functional when the auto-restart feature is enabled. C. Automatic self diagnostic test: Bi-weekly The UPS contains a counter which will initiate a battery test after 14 days (336 hrs) of continuous normal mode operation. The test duration shall be approximately 15 seconds. Should a failure of the battery occur, the UPS will immediately return to normal mode and fault signals (visual, audible, and remote via RS232) shall be enunciated. The 14 day timer shall be reset after a manual battery test, back-up mode operation or if the UPS is switched OFF. No audible or remote (via RS232/contact closures) indication of the battery test shall be enunciated during the duration of the automatic battery test. The automatic bi-weekly battery test shall be capable of being disabled by the operator through the serial (RS232) communications port or through the optional communications slot Manual Battery Test The alarm silence/manual battery test switch shall initiate a manual battery test only when input power is present and no alarm conditions are present. The test shall operate the same as the automatic bi-weekly test described in section C of this specification. Should the UPS batteries not be capable of supporting the connected load for the test duration, the UPS shall immediately return to normal operation, without loss of connected load and fault signals (visual, audible, and remote via RS232) shall be enunciated. No audible or remote (via RS232/contact closures) indication of the battery test shall be enunciated during the duration of the manual battery test. The test button shall require the operator to push for 0.5 seconds to initiate the battery test Internal Battery Valve regulated, lead acid cells shall be used as a stored-energy source for the specified UPS system. The battery shall be housed internal to the UPS cabinet, and sized to support the inverter at rated load, with ambient temperature 25 deg C (77 deg F), for a minimum of 5 minutes reserve time. The UPS units shall have the capability to allow the operator to replace the internal battery. The batteries shall be accessible from a door located behind the front Bezel on the Mini Tower units and the battery retaining plate located behind the Battery door in the front of the Rackmount unit. A tool, such as a Phillips (cross-head) screwdriver shall be required to open the battery door. The battery voltage once the battery is opened, shall be a SAFE voltage of 48 VDC or less as required by UL Standard 1778 and European EN Standards Output Distribution 120 VAC units Mini Tower Output distribution shall be integral to the UPS, located on the rear of the unit. The 700 VA unit shall contain four (4) NEMA 5-15R receptacles. The 1000 VA and 1400 VA units shall contain six (6) NEMA 5-15R receptacles. The 2200 VA unit shall contain (6) NEMA 5-15R receptacles and (2) 5-20R receptacles. 10

11 Rackmount Output distribution shall be integral to the UPS, located on the rear of the unit. The 700 VA unit shall contain four (6) NEMA 5-15R receptacles. The 1000 VA and 1400 VA units shall contain six (6) NEMA 5-15R receptacles. The 2200 VA unit shall contain (6) NEMA 5-15R receptacles and (2) 5-20R receptacles. 230 VAC units Mini Tower Output distribution shall be integral to the UPS, located on the rear of the unit. All 230 VAC units will contain (4) IEC A sockets, and the 2200 VA unit contains an additional IEC A. The 230 VAC units shall be supplied with two (2) output cords that are 6.0 feet (1.8 meters) in length. These cords shall contain IEC A type connectors, one male and one female, and shall comply to European standards. Rackmount Output distribution shall be integral to the UPS, located on the rear of the unit. All 230 VAC units will contain (4) IEC A sockets, and the 2200 VA unit contains an additional IEC A. The 230 VAC units shall be supplied with two (2) output cords that are 6.0 feet (1.8 meters) in length. These cords shall contain IEC A type connectors, one male and one female, and shall comply to European standards Communications The UPS shall contain a DB9F (9 pin female) connector on the rear panel to allow UPS status communications to a computer system. The DB9F shall contain photo couplers to signal on battery and low battery operational status. The UPS shall also be capable of receiving a signal from the connected host system to initiate a UPS shutdown. This signal shall be a + 5 V to +12 V (RS232 level) that must remain for > 0.75 second duration. Additionally, it shall also communicate via serial communications. Communications protocol shall be level 1 compliant; with the following exceptions: Items not supported: - Input amperes - Battery amperes - Seconds - Minutes - Hours - Day of Week - Date - Month - Year - Watts (output) - Temperature The pin out configuration of the DB9F connector shall be: Pin Assignment Description 1 Low Battery (Open Collector: +V) 2 UPS TxD 3 UPS RxD 4 Remote Shutdown (5-12V DC,1.0 ma max); on battery operation 5 Common 6 No connection 7 Low Battery (Open Emitter: -V) 8 Utility Fail (normally closed) 9 On battery (normally open) Maximum voltage and current on pins 1,7,8,9 shall be 80 VDC, 10.0 ma maximum. 11

12 2.2.8 Optional Communications The UPS shall contain one communication slot to allow the operator to field install optional communication cards. These optional cards shall allow the UPS to communicate via Ethernet SNMP, connected directly to the LAN. Once the SNMP card is installed, the serial communications shall be disabled in the DB9F connector; however the photo-coupler signals (on battery, and low battery) shall remain active. The communication port shall be designed to provide simple installation where an electrical connections are made via an 26 pin edge card connector.
