4 INTRODUCTION GENERAL FEATURES The ISOMOVE actuators are made respecting the dimensions of connection parts of pneumatic cylinders according to ISO6431. This permits the complete interchangeability in existing plants and machines, improving the mechanical features without forcing the designers to review the project. They permit to achieve the same reliability and working life of pneumatic cylinders, ensuring permanent service factor applications. The movement of the extension rod is given by a ballscrew, with different diameters and leads available, depending on cylinder nominal bore. The extension rod is supplied with magnets which allow to use REED sensors, that are normally sold for pneumatic cylinders. The back stop device is standard on every size, except on size. The ISOMOVE actuators are made to supply the same axial force and linear speed in both senses, traction (pull) and compression (push) operations. MECHANICAL FEATURES Aluminium extrusion profile suitable for electrical axis. T-slot for magnetic sensors. Pneumatic cylinders-like inner sliding system. Inner antirotation device. Inner magnet on sliding piston for external limit switches. Rotary to linear movement conversion obtained by ballscrews. Thrust ball bearings. Toothed belt drive with shrink-disk pulleys or direct drive by servo couplings. Traceability of high quality components WHY ARE THEY ACCURATE? The accuracy is guaranteed by mechanical transmission system that, unlike pneumatic transmission, is a stiff system. ADVANTAGES Possibility to perform high precision cycles. Speed control along the entire stroke. Possibility to set up acceleration and deceleration ramps for a smooth movement. Possibility to achieve very slow movements keeping the maximum nominal force. Synchronization with other components of the machine. Very good control of speed and position MOTORIZATIONS and step motor In these two cases the selected motors are the best for the corresponding actuator size. Custom motor, i.e. customer choice. The actuator is supplied with the motor fixing system, the customer has only to assemble the motor onto the actuator without adding any other mechanical part. Brushless or step motor integrated solutions MOTOR POSITION All our actautors can be supplied both in direct drive, that is, with the motor on the same axis as the extension rod, and with toothed belt reduction unit (BELT GEARS), that is, with motor parallel to the extension rod. BELT GEAR VERSION The zero backlash belt gear unit transmits motion to the screw. Belts are Kevlar stiffened. The standard ratio is 1:1; the ratio 1:2 is available on request (except size ). DIRECT DRIVE VERSION The motion transmission in direct drive version is obtained by using a zero-backlash servo coupling.

5 MAINTENANCE Because of high quality components, protection against external agents and all units greased during assembly, no maintenance is required, even in hardest application. Our products can be mounted, as machine components, only on machines with features that respect the CEE specification of industrial machines and in particular: EN e EN Machine safety, fundamental, general guiding on the configuration. EN Machine safety, driving parts. EN Minimum distances to respect not to reach by arms dangerous points. EN Minimum distance to avoid body parts crushing. EN Emergency stop devices. QUALITY The ISOMOVE actuator is a component for industrial automation applications. Its reliability, thanks to years of experience, accurate calculations for each of its components and use of certified products, is consolidated. All parts come from important and well known Italian and worldwide manufacturers. Any actuator is subjected to static and dynamic tests before delivery to customer. All structural components, as you can see on life curves and graphs, are designed using a conservative safety factor. All the actuators are registered, provided with serial number on in order to assure the traceability of the product. The internal magnets for limit switches (REED), are custom made and with high power not to generate double signal. Mechanical servo couplings guarantee the backlashfree connection between motor shaft and screw; due to alternative movements which can generate during time possible torsional play, couplings with keyway are avoided. Ballscrews inside the actuator are subjected to axial load and are protected by the extension rod and the cover tube so that the cylinders are usable also in harsh and dusty environmental conditions. Sealed double row angular contact ball bearings are used. A high quality component Designed, manufactured and assembled in Italy 3

6 MOUNTING INFORMATION AND ADVICES ANTIROTATION DEVICE All the actuators, except size in which it is not possible to have it, are supplied with internal antirotation device to prevent the extension rod from rotating. This guarantees precise movements. Please pay attention that this device is not standing external torsional torques. INSTALLATION All ISO pneumatic cylinder fixings can be used on ISOMOVE actuators, the 4 threaded holes in the front flange and the typical ISO fixing accessories. ACTUATOR INSTALLATION CAUTIONS The actuator is a component able to stand only purely axial forces (along the extension rod). No out of axis or radial forces can be supported, otherwise they compromise its proper operation. NOTE: In case of horizontal mounting of ISOMOVE using threaded holes in the front flange please inform our technical office (we do not suggest horizontal mounting on machines subjected to shocks and vibrations). MOTOR INSTALLATION CAUTIONS If you have bought our custom actuator, the motor flange is expressly designed for your motor. If you have bought a belt gear version actuator, remove the rear cover, fit the pulley on the shaft, mount the belt on the pulley and mount the motor in its housing. Fix the motor with screws, check the pulleys alignment by rotating the belt by hand; lock the pulleys on both shafts. If you have bought a direct drive version actuator, join the two shafts together by the supplied servo coupling. To avoid motor shaft torsional stress, insert the motor in its actuator housing, lock the coupling on the two shaft ends (motor,screw), then as a last operation lock motor screws taking care of the correct motor mounting. SHOCK CAUTIONS Ballscrew and bearings used into ISOMOVE are not suitable for shocks, particularly when extension tube is not moving. Please avoid ISOMOVE from any kind of mechanical impact and shock. VERTICAL APPLICATION CAUTIONS Ballscrews are normally a reversible component, thus the result is that the actuator is normally a reversible component. We recommend to use a break on motor if you want to hold the load in a certain position when motor is off. BRUSHLESS MOTOR APPLICATION CAUTIONS Be careful to brushless motors peak torque; usually, it can reach 5 times the nominal torque. The actuator, to still have safety factors as said, is designed for a maximum input torque that is defined in the following pages for each model. The incidental peak torque beyond those values could damage the actuator irreparably. BELT GEAR TRANSMISSION If you have bought one of our belt gear version actuator, the motion transmission between motor shaft and ballscrew is guarantee by zero backlash AT series belt gear, with Kevlar reinforcement to avoid its elongation. The belt gear tension is pre-determinated so that both belt tensioner and future interventions are not necessary. Pulleys are locked on the motor shaft and on the ballscrew journal end by servo-couplings or security dowels depending on motor and actuator size. 4
