3 Whilst we do our utmost to reproduce sounds that are accurate and true -to-life, sometimes these sounds may not completely tally with the user s expectation. Due to the nature of the simulation, it is often not possible to reproduce a completely accurate soundscape for a variety of reasons such as limitations with our current technology and occasional inability to gain meaningful access to the locomotives being created. You should therefore regard the audio reproduction for our locomotives as authentic interpretations rather than perfect recreations. Page 3

4 1 Background 1.1 Loco The Arrow III Rail cars are designed for passenger services for New Jersey Transit. Built by General Electric from 1977 the Arrow III are powered by overhead catenary and of a stainless steel construction. There are 3 different car types: Single (S) cars and married pairs (A and B) cars. Arrow III s have 200 married (A and B) pair sets and 30 single(s) cars, between 1992 & 1995 all 230 Arrow III s were overhauled by ABB (ASEA Brown Boveri). This overhaul replaced the DC propulsion with a new solid state AC system. It also received a higher powered traction motor which gave a total of 375 hp per 2 axle truck. 7 3.3 General Keyboard Controls Key Equivalent T H V Z Q X Space B Action Load/Unload. Press once to load/unload passengers or freight. Head Lights. Repeatedly pressing will cycle through headlight states where appropriate. Windscreen Wipers. Press once to switch on and again to switch off. (Expert) Engine Stop/Start. By default engines will already be running at the start of a scenario. Press this button to stop and then again to restart the engine. (Expert) Alerter. The Alerter is a system used on some trains to ensure that the driver has seen a signal. If the alert sounds (a black/yellow striped symbol is shown on the Driver's display), this must be acknowledged by pressing the Alerter button or the emergency brakes will be applied. (Expert) Sander. Causes sand to be laid on the rails next to the wheels to assist with adhesion. Press once to apply sand and again to stop. Horn. Press to sound the horn. Bell. Press once to sound the bell. / Handbrake On/Off. This icon is displayed in the Coupling view. Shift + Ctrl + C Couple manually. Page 7

8 4 Scenarios [Arrow III] The Long Shot It s a pleasant summer morning. Perfect for an express run between Dover and Hoboken. Take the controls of Train 1074 for this full length run of the Route. Duration: 65 Minutes Difficulty: Medium [Arrow III] The Holiday Arrow During the holiday season NJT provides additional trains for fes tive shoppers. On a snowy December afternoon, you are in charge of Train 8440 between Summit and New York Penn. Duration: 45 minutes Difficulty: Medium [Arrow III] Aiming Upwards It s time to let the Arrow fly to Summit. This evening, you will be in charge of Train 643 on a stopping passenger service from Hoboken to Summit, stopping at various stations on the way. Duration: 45 minutes Difficulty: Easy Page 8
