Metab. 21: (1977) Tables of Recommended Nutrient Intakes in Different European Countries Introduction It was decided by the participants of the Round Table that the recommended dietary intakes in the different European countries made available should be included in this report. It has not always been possible to include the complete oriinal tables. They have sometimes had to be abbreviated because of shortae of space. However, the eneral outlines of the oriinal tables have been used in order to show how the recommended dietary intakes are presented in the various countries. Some of the oriinal informations in direct connection with the tables are also added. It is important to observe that in some countries, the recommended intakes refer to the nutrient as eaten. In other countries the recommended intakes are related to the nutrients in the foods as bouht. This miht sometimes explain the differences in the values from various countries. It is of value to read the various comments presented by the participants of the Round Table. All values in the tables are iven in recommended intake per day and person.

4 Recom m ended Dietary Intakes in Denmark There is no official dietary recommendation in Denmark. However, the Recommended Dietary Allowances from the USA have in eneral been used by nutritionists in Denmark when plannin and evaluatin diets. A reduction of 10% for the men and 9.1% for the women is recommended for a liht occupation; an increase of 20% for the men and 13.6% for the women is recommended for a very active occupation. 1 For infants up to 6 months the values are expressed as milk protein. For all others the values are obtained on the basis of a NPU of 70%. J For fats the recommended intake is 30% of enery requirement durin infancy, childhood and adolescence and 25% above 20 years. The dietary intake of linoleic acid should be 2-6% of total daily enery. 4 One niacin equivalent corresponds to 1 available niacin or 60 tryptophan. 5 1 M of retinol equivalent corresponds to 1 M of retinol or 6 M of (3-carotenes of 12 M of other bioloically active carotenoids. 6 Vitamin D is expressed in M of cholecalciferol. Also if most of the children above 1 year and adults are adequately exposed to sunliht, a daily intake of 2.5 M is recommended. This intake should increase durin prenancy and lactation and for individuals normally not exposed to sunliht.

An averae loss of 50% is assumed, with exception for fruit and veetables eaten raw.
