9 SOLID CARBIDE DRILLS Walter Titex X treme DM technology. Walter Titex recoends the following drilling strategy in order to increase tool life and reliability: 1. Pilot hole 1.5 x d using X treme Pilot. Diameter tolerances have been matched to the X treme DM deep-hole drill. 1,5 x d 2. Introduce the X treme DM tool into the hole at a maximum speed of 500 rpm. 1,5 x d Exit 3. Increase cutting speed and feed rate to the recoended TEC-CCS values. Continue to drill down with no pecking or dwell period. Approach bar 4. After reaching the drilling depth, reduce the speed to a maximum of 500 rpm or stop the spindle. Retract drill from the drilled hole. Exit A good coolant filter grade is important when using these tools. A filter grade of < 20 µm is recoended.
