Motability is the national charity which oversees the Motability Scheme. Are you eligible? If you receive one of the following allowances and have at least 12 months remaining on the award, you are eligible to lease through the Motability Scheme: The Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (56.75 a week) The Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence (56.75 a week) The War Pensioners Mobility Supplement (63.40 a week) The Armed Forces Independence (mobility element a week) You simply exchange your mobility allowance for the car of your choice. Of course your dealer will be happy to guide you through the whole process. What s included in the worry-free package? We want you to enjoy your car without having to worry about a thing. You won t have to spend any extra on arranging insurance, servicing, maintenance, breakdown assistance, new tyres or windscreen replacement as these are all included. You don t even have to be able to drive yourself as you can nominate up to two other drivers or if your child receives the allowance you can get a car on their behalf. This Car Price Guide is regularly updated The prices in this guide are for applications submitted through a Motability dealership between 1 January and 31 March 2015 and are updated every three months. We offer a firm price guarantee, which means the price confirmed when your order is accepted is the price you pay when you collect your car. 4 Suitability 1. Which type of car suits your needs? The first thing you should think about is what you need from a car. What are the things you are going to be doing and what type of car best meets those needs? Here are some questions to consider as a starting point: How many people are going to travel in it regularly? Will you be doing a lot of motorway driving? Do you mainly do short journeys in built up areas? How much boot space do you need? Is parking a problem? Are you able to change gear easily? If you have a mobility aid, will it fit easily into the car? Do you need to take your scooter or wheelchair with you? Have difficulty parking? Need to carry pets? For instance, if you mainly drive in built up areas with low speed limits, a petrol engine might be more suitable. This is because most diesel vehicles are fitted with Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) and many of these need to be regenerated by regularly travelling at speeds over 40mph. If you have a big family you may want to consider a large family car or MPV. If you find it difficult to change gear easily, an automatic might be a good choice. You ll also need to think about travelling in the car day to day. Small changes in type, model or specification can have a big impact on your comfort or the car s suitability. For example, seat height, door opening angle and positioning of the seat belts can all make a big difference. A good place to start is to think about your current car, if you have one, and decide what you like and dislike about it. It may be useful to refer to the quick checklist on page 6. Adaptations and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles For information on adaptations to make driving or travelling easier (such as hand or steering controls) and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (specially designed to accommodate your wheelchair), please see pages 29 and 34 of this guide. Which type of car will be right for you? You can see all the cars listed by type, with a short description of what each category means e.g. hatchback, MPVs, 4x4, etc. on pages of this guide. If you are at all unsure as to what s right for you, then your local dealer will be glad to help. Your dealer will take you through the Suitability Questionnaire, which is designed to make sure the car you re considering, and the Motability Scheme, is right for you. 5 Affordability 2. Which cars come within your budget? Above all, we aim to make leasing a brand new car affordable. So once you have decided what sort of car would suit you best, you need to know which ones are within your budget. Keeping fuel costs down Don t forget that your lease includes everything, except fuel, to provide you with worry-free motoring, so you will need to take into account the car s fuel costs. To keep the running costs down you may want to consider a more fuel efficient engine. Each car listed has a miles per gallon (mpg) figure; cars with a higher mpg cost less to run and usually provide lower CO 2 emissions over the course of your lease. Remember the mpg given is a guide to help you compare cars and is based on test conditions. The actual mpg each car achieves in real world driving is likely to be lower than the official figure. Choose a car to suit your budget When you lease a car through the Motability Scheme, there are three pricing options. However, no matter how much you pay or what car you choose, all customers will enjoy the same all-inclusive package of insurance, breakdown cover, servicing, tyres and glass replacement. The three pricing options are: 1 Cars that cost less than your mobility allowance a range of over 150 cars on the Scheme cost less than your mobility allowance, meaning the remainder will be paid directly to you by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). These cars are available to lease at a fixed weekly amount for the whole of your agreement and any increases in your allowance that the DWP makes will be paid directly to you. In this guide these cars are highlighted in yellow. For more information, see page 9 of this guide. 2 Cars that cost all of your mobility allowance we have a range of over 300 cars that cost the same as your allowance. There s no and you simply swap the whole of your weekly mobility allowance for the car of your choice. These cars are highlighted in blue. 3 Cars that cost all of your mobility allowance and also have an you can increase your choice of cars by topping up your allowance with a non-refundable upfront payment which we call the. This payment covers the difference between your allowance and the total cost of the lease over the course of your agreement. These cars are highlighted in red. To give you an idea of costs, for each car listed we have highlighted the average annual fuel costs which can help you compare between cars and see which option might save you money. Trade-in your old car You can trade-in your privately owned car to help finance the of your new car. 6 Test drive 3. Try out a few cars before you finally decide Once you ve worked out what type of car you want and looked at the available options, it s very important that you take a few different cars out for a test drive. A test drive is the only way to find out properly whether a car is right for you and your dealer will be more than happy to arrange this. Even if you choose a car similar to the one you drive now, you may well discover that the manufacturer has made a number of changes and alterations to the latest model, so it is advisable to take a test drive to make sure you are still happy with your choice. There are three parts to a successful test drive: 1. Ins and outs: Take time to check you are happy about getting in and out of the vehicle. 2. Dealer demonstration: Ask the dealer to show you around the vehicle and explain all the features. 3. On the road: Take the car out on the road with the dealer. Check how comfortable it is to drive, or travel in, and how easy it is to park. Use this handy checklist to mark each feature of the car you test drive out of 10. Add up the totals and see which one comes out on top! It s also worth bearing in mind that the delivery times will differ for different makes and models. Ask your dealer what the expected delivery time might be as it may affect your choice. Test driving automatics, adapted cars and WAVs If you want to test drive an automatic car you will need to arrange this when you call your dealer as there are often less of these models available on site. To try out adaptations, it may be worth contacting a Mobility Centre see page 29 for further details. Meanwhile, if you are opting for a WAV, specialist WAV converters will travel to your home to help make this easier. We ve included a glossary on a fold out at the back of this guide. 2 : This shows you what kind of fuel the car takes, such as Petrol (P), Diesel (D), Electric (E) or if the car is a Hybrid (H). 3 : This shows which cars are classed as automatic (l) or semi-automatic (l). Cars classified as semi-automatic will vary from model to model. 4 DLA or PIP holders: These prices are applicable for recipients of the Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC) of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA), the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component (ERMC) of Personal Independence (PIP) and Armed Forces Independence. War Pensioners Mobility Supplement (WPMS) recipients should search on motability.co.uk or speak to a Motability dealer. 5 : The non-refundable amount payable upfront to your dealer in addition to your weekly mobility allowance. The small print The terms, conditions, prices, model features and adaptations set out in this car price guide are correct at time of going to print. However, these may be subject to adjustment or withdrawal in the event of any changes taking place which affect the cost of the provision of the Contract Hire agreement or vehicle availability. The Contract Hire lease package with Motability Operations comes with a mileage allowance of 60,000 for three year leases and 100,000 for five year WAV agreements. If you go over this amount, you will be charged 5p for each extra mile. Insurance is included, however, in the event of a claim you will be asked to pay an excess unless a third party is found to be at fault. Full insurance details are included in the Insurance Cover Booklet supplied with the Motability car. 6 : This shows the relevant amount of DLA or PIP that will be paid to Motability Operations each week. Total allowance means that the total amount of the higher rate mobility allowance is payable in exchange for your car. 7 Average mpg: This shows the average number of miles a car can travel for every gallon of fuel. This is for comparison purposes only and is likely to be lower than the figure actually achieved. 8 Average fuel: This shows an approximate annual fuel cost for comparison purposes only. It is based on the average annual mileage driven by Motability customers (8,300) and the latest AA fuel price report. 9 CO 2 emissions: This shows the emission levels in grammes per kilometre (g/km). A green tick highlights low emission vehicles which have a CO 2 of 100g/km or below. 10 Pricing options: There are three different pricing options available: The cars shaded in yellow cost less than your mobility allowance, meaning you keep any money left over The cars shaded in blue require you to exchange all of your allowance, including any increases The cars shaded in red require you to exchange all of your allowance, including any increases, and topping up with a one off. Restrictions and higher excesses are applied to drivers aged under 25, speak to your dealer for more information. Metallic paint comes as standard. 8 Car Price Guide January March 2015 Fuel efficient cars with low emissions Cars with a CO 2 emission level of 100g/km or less are considered low emission models, and throughout the guide these cars are highlighted with a green tick in the CO 2 column. These cars not only have a less harmful effect on the environment, but they tend to be more fuel efficient, giving you more miles per gallon (mpg) and helping you to save pounds at the pump. 9 Cars less than allowance Cars that cost less than your allowance If keeping the cost of your lease as low as possible is one of your main priorities, we have over 150 cars available to lease for less than your weekly mobility allowance (currently for DLA and PIP). These cars are available at a fixed weekly amount for the whole of your agreement and there is no required. The remainder of your allowance will be paid directly to you by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). In the table below the You Keep column shows how much of your weekly allowance will continue to be paid to you. The amount you keep is likely to increase each year when the DWP increases the allowance rate, usually in April. Throughout the rest of this guide any car that costs less than your allowance is highlighted in yellow. To work out how much you will keep, take your current allowance rate, 56.75, and subtract the. For example if the car you re interested in has a weekly rental of 46.75, you will keep 10 per week. 29 Adaptations Adaptations Adaptations are a range of devices that can be fitted to your car to help make driving, or travelling, easier. Typically, adaptations fall into three categories: they can help you drive, stow your wheelchair or scooter, or get in and out of the car. We currently offer over 350 different adaptations through our Motability Managed Adaptations Programme, where the adaptations are fitted before your car is delivered and the price of the adaptation is paid along with the to your dealer at the start of the lease. The adaptations included over the next few pages are just a sample of the selection available for a full list please see our website, motability.co.uk. To take advantage of the prices listed, you must order any adaptations you need through your Motability dealer at the same time that you order your car. All prices include installation and any maintenance that may be required. Further adjustments carried out by your installer may result in an additional charge. Choosing the right adaptation Adaptations are not suitable for every type of car so it s important to consider the adaptations you need before you choose your car. Your local Motability adaptation installer will be happy to help. There are more than 100 installers across the UK and you can find all their contact details, and information on which adaptations they provide, at motability.co.uk. If you don t have internet access you can call us on If you ve never driven with an adaptation before, it may be worth visiting a Mobility Centre for an assessment. Mechanical hand controls and left foot accelerator If you find using foot pedals for braking or acceleration difficult, you may be better off using a hand control, such as a push/pull device or a radial accelerator. There are a number of different hand controls available from different manufacturers, but the basic function is the same across most models the foot pedals are controlled by devices installed around the steering column and wheel, allowing you to use your hands to push or pull a lever to control the speed of the car or when you need to stop. Most push/pull hand controls can be ordered with a built-in indicator switch at no extra cost. You ll find most mechanical hand controls are available at no extra cost for a full list. If you cannot operate the standard accelerator pedal in an automatic car, you may benefit from having a left foot accelerator fitted. This system transfers the original acceleration control of the car to an extra pedal fitted on the left side, allowing you to manage your speed in a way that s more comfortable for you. With most installations, the original accelerator pedal can still be used when the left foot pedal is not deployed, so the car can also be driven safely by any nominated drivers who do not require adaptations. We recommend seeking advice from an adaptations installer first if you have not used this type of adaptation before. You ll find most left foot accelerators are available at no extra cost for a full list. A steering wheel ball can be fitted to allow for easier control. The driver simply holds the ball and uses it to move the wheel in the direction you want to go. If you re having hand controls fitted, then it is often essential to have a steering wheel ball to enable you to steer the car with one hand while operating any hand controls with the other. 33 Adaptations Wheelchair swivel seats A wheelchair swivel seat enables you to move in and out of the car without needing to rise from the seat. Once locked in position, the actual seat itself is transferred from the wheelchair base unit to a swivel base inside the car, all without the wheelchair user having to move position. It s easy and comfortable for both the passenger and the person assisting. The wheelchair base unit is then stored in the car boot. There are both manual and powered wheelchair options available. Like permanent swivel seats it s worth checking with an installer if this adaptation is compatible with the car of your choice. WAVs are vehicles that have been converted by specialists so that wheelchair users can travel in them while remaining in their wheelchair, either as a passenger or driver. We offer brand new WAVs on a five year lease based on the exchange of your total allowance, including any increases. And with a mileage allowance of up to 100,000 miles over the course of your lease, you ll be able to get out and about with the peace of mind that comes with the Motability Scheme s worry-free motoring package. This price guide contains a selection of the many WAVs available, and the full range is on our website. The vast majority of Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles are converted so that the wheelchair user travels as a passenger, usually in the rear of the vehicle. WAVs can vary according to size and style, with base vehicles ranging from small to large. To help you consider how each WAV will fit in your day-to-day travel and individual needs, we ve added a new size category to our WAV pricing pages. There are also a number of optional extras available which can help to make access to the WAV easier or travelling more comfortable, for example a ramp winch. Speak to your supplier to find out which optional extras you could get on the WAVs you re considering. Most small WAVs can have at least one rear seat to accommodate up to four people including a wheelchair passenger. They usually have a lowered floor, giving you more headroom inside the vehicle and reducing the angle of the ramp, making it easier to get in and out. Medium If you have a larger wheelchair or regularly travel with four or more passengers or have equipment that you need to keep with you, a medium sized WAV might suit your needs. While most medium WAVs have a ramp, some are available with an electric lift instead. Medium WAVs seat between five and seven people including a wheelchair passenger. Large If you will be regularly travelling with many passengers and require a number of extra seats, or if you have a large or heavy wheelchair, or a lot of other equipment that you need to keep with you, then a large WAV is probably right for you. These WAVs are usually fitted with a lift to aid entry into the vehicle, and can be fitted with additional seats for your passengers.
