2 INTRODUCTIONS - METROLINX Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario responsible for the coordination of all modes of transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Metrolinx is working to transform the way the region moves by building a fast, convenient and integrated transit network. This includes more frequent and reliable electrified GO Rail service known as RER. 2

3 INTRODUCTIONS - METROLINX Currently the Barrie Rail Corridor provides one-way, rush hour weekday service and limited weekend service. RER will provide the Town of Newmarket with: 30 minute, two-way weekday rush hour service; and 60 minute, two-way mid-day, evening and weekend service. 3

4 INTRODUCTIONS - METROLINX With RER, infrastructure and facility improvements will be made to the Barrie Rail Corridor and the Newmarket GO Station. Metrolinx has retained a multidisciplinary team from IBI Group to complete a Mobility Hub Study for Newmarket GO. The Mobility Hub Study will, in part, help inform future RER planning and design initiatives. 4

5 PURPOSE OF TONIGHT S OPEN HOUSE Provide an overview on the purpose and scope of the Newmarket Mobility Hub Study; Present findings from the site and contextual analysis and preliminary station design ideas; Explain how to provide input to the Mobility Hub Study; and Answer questions and receive feedback. 5

6 WHAT IS A MOBILITY HUB Mobility Hubs are major transit stations and the surrounding areas that have: Significant levels of existing or planned transit; Connections to different modes of transportation - from walking to rapid transit; and Intensive concentrations of working, living and other activities. The 51 Mobility Hubs in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area vary in terms of type, but all share similar objectives for seamless mobility, placemaking and successful implementation. 6

7 NEWMARKET GO STATION MOBILITY HUB STUDY Opportunities exist to enhance the Newmarket GO Station area, leverage the existing transit connections and realize its potential as a designated Mobility Hub. The Mobility Hub Study is intended to: Establish a vision for the GO Station and the surrounding area; Identify opportunities for short and longer-term improvements; and Support existing planning efforts and investment and inform ongoing initiatives. 7

27 TRANSIT-ORIENTED DEVELOPMENT CONSTRAINTS Flood plain which limits land development and site alteration, generally restricting: Residential uses; Some Institutional uses; and Underground parking. Market demand for non-residential uses Roads: Limited east/west and north/south roadway connections; Traffic congestion; and Sites with limited access. 19
