2 EFFICIENCY REGULATIONS FOR MOTORS AND MOTOR SYSTEMS Electric drives in industrial applications consume up to 70 percent of the total energy required. For many companies, this offers great potential for optimisation. NORD supplies a wide range of electric motors, which meet all common global efficiency regulations and standards. Our motors are used in many applications because they are not just powerful and robust, but can also be combined with all NORD gear units. Whether in agitators, conveyor systems, intralogistics or the food industry: NORD electric motors can be found wherever high performance is required. They operate reliably over many years with very high efficiency. This saves operating costs for our customers and at the same time helps protect the environment. This brochure gives you an overview of the global regulations for energy efficiency in the field of electric motors. Please note that standards and directives are subject to constant change. Even though we make every endeavour to ensure that this information is correct, this document cannot provide a substitute for a study of the relevant directives or import regulations. 2 Efficiency regulations for motors and motor systems
3 ECODESIGN DIRECTIVE IEC : 2017 NEW EFFICIENCY CLASSES FOR MOTOR SYSTEMS The new standard which defines the IE classes for inverters and IES classes for the combination of motors and inverters was published at the beginning of Federal Environmental Agency: "The objective of the Eco-design Directive is to minimise the environmental effects of relevant products which are relevant to the consumption of energy over their entire life cycle." NORD DRIVESYSTEMS drive solutions already fulfil the stringent requirements of the new IEC : 2017 (former EN 50598) standard. New terms and definitions in IEC : 2017 (former EN 50598) Extended Product Complete system of drive control, motor, power transfer and the driven load machine Driven Equipment Actual load machine, including the mechanical power transfer by gear units or belts Motor System Motor plus Motor Control System Combination of the drive control and motor including the motor cable, regardless of the motor technology (PDS / Power Drive System = CDM + Motor) Motor Control System CDM (Complete Drive Module) or Motor Starter CDM = The frequency inverter, including all necessary auxiliary components and equipment IEC (IE classes for inverters) IE0 IE1 IE2 IE1 = Reference +25 % losses -25 % losses IEC (IES classes for inverters and motors) IES0 IES1 IES2 IES1 = Reference +20 % losses -20 % losses Efficiency regulations for motors and motor systems 3
