5 INFRASTRUCTURE Access and distribution switches (in equipment shelters) providing tester-specific private VLAN and dedicated ports, as well as the teleoperators routers Heated equipment shelter, where testers can install their own equipment. Electricity, fibre (covering the 10 km road) and internet connection (100/100 Mb inner and 10 Mb outer network) available Cable protective pipes (Ø 110 mm, inner pipe Ø 100 mm) under and along the road can be used for installing additional cables if needed. Cable manholes (connection to electricity and fibre) and electric distribution centres Test equipment can be installed in equipment shelters, masts, poles, as well as in and along the road On a 1.5 km stretch along the road there are fixed stands on which, for example, marker posts and ploughing poles or the equipment required for testing may be installed

8 Laser scanners Will CAD enhance rutting of the road surface? Scanning the road surface enables recognising the position of the vehicles Can we slow down the rutting AND optimise the road surface usage?

9 Road structure and vehicle weight monitoring The condition of roads is affected by seasonal changes and vehicle weights. Monitoring these changes generates detailed data to effectively address the effects and to predictively manage them.

10 Vibration frequency monitoring Vibration sensing technology can distinguish what kind of vibration different objects generate in the road structure. Can vibration frequency monitoring help to predict long term changes in the road and notify the infrastructure owner to take action?

12 R&D: THE INFRA CHALLENGE How roads should be instrumented to support proactive maintenance, intelligent infrastructure asset management and connected and automated driving? How can maintenance processes be automated? What kind of maintenance do connected and automated vehicles require? How automated data acquisition processes could be utilised to support pavement management and daily maintenance (crowd sourcing)? How connected and automated driving will affect the wearing of the road?
