Notify the carrier and dealer if there is any damage. Read the Safety Guide supplied with this unit before installing the UPS. This UPS is for indoor use only. Do not operate this UPS in direct sunlight, in contact with fluids, or where there is excessive dust or high humidity. Do not operate the UPS near open windows or doors. Be sure the air vents on the UPS are not blocked. Allow adequate space for proper ventilation. Note: Allow 20 cm clearance on both front and rear sides of the UPS. Environmental factors impact battery life. Elevated ambient temperatures, poor quality utility power, and frequent discharges will shorten battery life.

2 Product Description The APC by Schneider Electric Smart-UPS SRC1000 IND series is a high performance uninterruptible power supply (UPS). It provides protection for electronic equipment from utility power blackouts, brownouts, sags, and surges; small utility fluctuations and large disturbances. The UPS also provides battery backup power until utility power returns to safe levels or the batteries are fully discharged. Output receptacles Serial port External battery connector receptacle Internal battery connector Connect electronic devices such as a computer, monitor, or printer to these receptacles. To use PowerChute software, connect the serial cable (supplied), to the serial port. Use only interface kits supplied or approved by APC by Schneider Electric. Any other serial interface cable will be incompatible with the UPS connector. SRC1000UXIND: Use the external battery connector cable to connect the UPS to external battery strings. SRC1000ICCIND: Firmly press the yellow battery connector into the UPS to connect the internal batteries. SmartSlot Use the SmartSlot to install an optional Network Management Card. EPO terminal Network cable ports with surge protection UPS input circuit breaker Emergency Power Off (EPO) terminal allows the user to connect the UPS to a central EPO system. Use a network cable to connect a modem to the Cable In port, and a computer to the Cable Out port. Press this button to reset the UPS circuit breaker after an overload condition has occurred. 4 Installation Prior to connecting the ground cable be sure the UPS is NOT connected to utility or battery power. HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK Warning All electrical work must be performed by a qualified electrician. Turn off all power to this equipment before working on the equipment. Practice lockout/tagout procedures. Do not wear jewelry when working with electrical equipment Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or equipment damage Connect equipment to the UPS 1. Connect equipment to the UPS (cables not supplied). 2. Connect the internal or external batteries (which ever is applicable), to the UPS. Refer to Connect Batteries on page 5 in this manual. 3. Switch on the utility circuit breaker. 4. To use the UPS as a MASTER ON/OFF switch be sure all connected equipment is turned on. The connected equipment will not receive power until the UPS is turned on. 5. Configure the optional Network Management Card (NMC). Refer to NMC documentation for instructions. Install PowerChute Software To install PowerChute Business Edition (PCBE) software, connect the supplied serial cable to the serial port on the UPS and the other end to a computer with access to the Web. On the computer, go to Select Software Upgrades - PowerChute Business Edition in the Filter by Software/Firmware drop down menu. Select the appropriate operating system. Follow directions to download the software. Emergency Power Off The Emergency Power Off (EPO) option is a safety feature that will immediately remove power to all connected equipment. When EPO button is pushed, all connected equipment will immediately turn off and will not switch to battery power. Adhere to all national and local electrical codes. Wiring must be performed by a qualified electrician. The switch should be connected in a normally open switch contact. External voltage is not required; the switch is driven by 12 V internal supply. In closed condition, 2 ma of current are drawn. The EPO switch is internally powered by the UPS for use with non-powered switch circuit breakers. Connect the EPO The EPO connector is located on the rear panel of the UPS. 1. Strip insulation from one end of each wire to be used for connecting EPO. 2. Insert a screwdriver into the slot above the terminal to be wired. Insert stripped wire into terminal. Remove screwdriver to secure wire in terminal. Repeat for each terminal. The EPO interface is a Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) circuit. Connect it only to other SELV circuits. The EPO interface monitors circuits that have no determined voltage potential. Such closure circuits may be provided by a switch or relay properly isolated from the utility. To avoid damage to the UPS, do not connect the EPO interface to any circuit other than a closure type circuit. 4 Smart-UPS SRC1000ICCIND / SRC1000UXIND

5 Use one of the following cable types to connect the UPS to the EPO switch. CL2: Class 2 cable for general use. CL2P: Plenum cable for use in ducts, plenums, and other spaces used for environmental air. CL2R: Riser cable for use in a vertical run in a floor-to-floor shaft. CLEX: Limited use cable for use in dwellings and for use in raceways. For installation in Canada: Use only CSA certified, type ELC, (extra-low voltage control cable). For installation in other countries: Use standard low-voltage cable in accordance with national and local regulations. Connect Batteries HAZARD OF ELECTRIC SHOCK Warning Adhere to all national and local electrical codes. All electrical work must be performed by a qualified electrician. Identify the polarities of the battery terminals before connecting the battery series. Do not short the battery terminals. Do not touch multiple terminals in the six battery strings at the same time. Do not wear jewelry when working with electrical equipment. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or equipment damage APC by Schneider Electric battery solution SRC1000ICCIND: The batteries charge to capacity during the first 24 hours while the UPS is operating on utility power. SRC1000UXIND: Connect the batteries. Charge to 90% capacity during the first 24 hours while the UPS is operating on utility power. Do not expect full runtime capability during the initial charge period. There are no serviceable parts in the UPS. Do not attempt to open or repair the UPS as this will void the warranty. Contact APC by Schneider Electric through the Web site for customer support. Third party battery solution SRC1000UXIND Batteries must be sealed lead-acid type. Use 40 A, 58 VDC fuses with an interrupt rating of > 20,000 A. The UPS internal battery chargers are optimized only for VRLA/AGM type batteries. Do not exceed the maximum recommended battery charging current rate when configuring the amp-hour capacity of the external battery system. The internal battery chargers operate in a constant current/constant voltage charging mode. The UPS is intended for use with 36 VDC nominal battery voltage. The external battery system connected to the UPS must not exceed 36 VDC nominal voltage. This equals three 12 V batteries connected in series. Refer to Configuration on page 8 in this manual for details on battery string configuration. External batteries must be configured prior to connecting batteries to the UPS. If using a non-apc by Schneider Electric battery pack, a 36 V battery string must be connected to the UPS using the supplied battery cable. 1. Connect the positive (red), and negative (black), wires to the positive, and negative terminals on each external battery system. 2. Plug the external battery connector cable into the external battery connector receptacle on the rear side of the UPS. Smart-UPS SRC1000ICCIND / SRC1000UXIND 5

6 3. Secure the cable connector with one screw. LCD Display The display interface options are visible on this LCD screen. On Battery LED The UPS is supplying battery power to connected equipment. Online LED The Online LED illuminates when UPS is operating on utility power and performing double conversion to supply power to connected equipment. Fault LED The UPS detects an internal fault. Refer to Troubleshooting in this manual. Battery Fault LED The Battery Fault LED illuminates. The UPS is no longer functional and must be replaced. UP/DOWN Arrow buttons Press the UP/DOWN arrow buttons to scroll through the main menu options. ENTER button Press the ENTER button to view the sub-menus under each main menu option. 7 Set display interface options Use the UP/DOWN arrow buttons to scroll through the main menu options. Press ENTER to view the sub-menus under each main menu option. 8 Configuration UPS Settings Configure UPS settings using the display interface or through PowerChute software. The UPS will mute all audible alarms when set to Never or when the display buttons are pressed. Press any display button and the LCD screen will illuminate. The LCD screen will automatically illuminate during an event or fault condition. Adjust the setting for the low battery warning to an interval that will allow the operating system software to safely shut down. Set the interval between the time when the UPS receives a shutdown command and actual shutdown. 10 Configure UPS parameters This configuration affects the accuracy of the predicted runtime calculations the UPS performs while running on battery power. Refer to the Battery String Configuration tables at the end of this section for detailed instructions. Smart-UPS RC models must be programed to recognize the number of battery strings connected to the UPS. There are four options available for configuring the UPS to recognize the number of battery strings 1. PowerChute Business Edition: Refer to the instructions included with the software 2. Network Management Card (NMC) Web interface: Refer to the instructions included with NMC 3. Network Management Card (NMC) terminal mode: Refer to the instructions below 4. UPS terminal mode Configure UPS connection settings using NMC terminal mode Connect the serial cable to the serial com port on rear side of UPS. 1. Open a terminal program, such as HyperTerminal. From the Desktop, go to: Start, Programs, Accessories, Communication, HyperTerminal 2. Follow the prompts to choose a name and select an icon. If the message, "...must install a modem, click Cancel. 3. Go to File, Properties. Select the COM port that is connected to your UPS. The port settings are: bits per second data - bits 8 parity - none stop bit - 1 flow control - none 4. Click OK in each of two windows 5. Press ENTER to initiate connection to UPS. Configure the number of battery strings using NMC terminal mode 1. Once the blank terminal window is open: 2. Press ENTER to initiate terminal mode. Press ENTER multiple times, until the prompt User Name: is displayed. Follow the prompts. Type slowly, waiting until each character appears on the screen prior to typing the next character. Network Management Card defaults: User Name: apc Password: apc 3. Press 1 and ENTER to select Device Manager. Select the model by entering the corresponding number, then press ENTER. 4. Press 3 and ENTER to select Configuration. 5. Press 1 and ENTER to select Battery. 6. Press 2 and ENTER to change Battery Settings. 7. Type in the number of battery strings then press ENTER. 8. Press 3 and ENTER to accept the changes. 9. Press ESC five times to return to the main menu. 10. Press 4 and ENTER to log out. 10 Smart-UPS SRC1000ICCIND / SRC1000UXIND

11 Configure UPS connection settings using UPS terminal mode Connect the serial cable to the serial port on the back of the UPS. If using USB communication to the UPS, disconnect USB cable prior to connecting serial cable. 1. Open a terminal program, such as HyperTerminal From the Desktop, go to: Start, Programs, Accessories, Communication, HyperTerminal 2. Follow the prompts to choose a name and select an icon. Disregard the message, "...must install a modem if it is displayed. Click Cancel 3. Go to File, Properties. Select the COM port that is connected to your UPS. The port settings are: bits per second data - bits 8 parity - none stop bit - 1 flow control - none 4. Click OK in each of two windows 5. Press ENTER Configure the number of battery strings using UPS terminal mode 1. Once the blank terminal window is open, follow these steps to enter the number of battery strings: NOTE: Letter key commands are case sensitive. Use capital letters when using letter key commands. 2. Press Y. The UPS will respond with SM in the command box. If the UPS does not respond to the Y command, ensure the serial cable is securely connected to the serial port on the UPS. Use only an APC by Schneider Electric supplied serial cable. 3. When SM appears in the command box press the > key. The UPS will respond with the number of battery strings connected to the UPS. If the UPS has not been previously programmed to recognize the number of battery strings this number will be zero. 4. Use the + or - keys to change the number of battery strings. OK will appear in the command box. 5. Press > key. The number of battery strings will appear in the command box. NOTE: The + or - keys and the > key must be used again to change the number of battery strings from this point in the programming. 6. Press R. The UPS will respond with BYE in the command box. 12 Troubleshooting Refer to Rear Panel Features on page 3 and Front display panel features on page 6 for the locations and graphical representations of the buttons and LEDs referred to in this table. Problem and/or Possible Cause Solution UPS will not turn on The battery is not connected properly. POWER ON/OFF button has not been pushed. The UPS is not connected to utility power supply. There is very low or no utility voltage. Check that the battery connector is engaged. Press the POWER ON/OFF button once to turn on the UPS and connected equipment. Check that the power cable from the UPS to the utility power supply is securely connected at both ends. Check the utility power supply to the UPS by plugging in a table lamp. If light is very dim, have utility voltage checked. UPS will not turn off The UPS is experiencing an internal fault. Do Not attempt to use the UPS. Turn the UPS off and have it serviced immediately. Refer to the APC by Schneider Electric Web site, UPS beeps occasionally Normal the UPS operation when running on battery power. The UPS is protecting connected equipment. Press the TEST button to silence this alarm. UPS is not providing expected backup time The UPS batteries are weak due to a recent power outage or the batteries are near the end of their service life. The batteries require recharging after extended outages. Batteries can wear faster when put into service often or when operated at elevated temperatures. If the batteries are near the end of their service life, consider replacing the UPS even if the Battery Fault LED has not illuminated. All LEDs are off and the UPS is plugged into a wall outlet The UPS has been turned off or the batteries are discharged from an extended power outage. The UPS will restart automatically when utility power returns. LCD displays OVERLOAD and the UPS emits a sustained alarm tone The UPS has experienced an overload condition. Connected equipment exceeds the maximum load as defined in Specifications on the APC by Schneider Electric Web site, The alarm remains on until the overload condition is corrected. Disconnect nonessential equipment from the UPS to eliminate the overload condition. The UPS continues to supply power as long as it is on line and the circuit breaker does not trip. The UPS will not provide battery power in the event of a utility voltage interruption. Fault LED is illuminated The UPS is experiencing an internal fault. Do Not attempt to use the UPS. Turn the UPS off and have it serviced immediately. Refer to the APC by Schneider Electric Web site, Battery Fault LED is illuminated The Disconnected Battery/Battery Fault LED flashes and a short beep is emitted every two seconds to indicate a battery fault has occurred. Weak battery. Contact customer support. Refer to Service on page 15 in this manual. Allow the battery to recharge for 24 hours and run a self-test. If the problem persists after recharging, the UPS is no longer functional and must be replaced. 12 Smart-UPS SRC1000ICCIND / SRC1000UXIND

13 Problem and/or Possible Cause Solution Failure of a battery self-test: Disconnected Battery/Battery Fault LED illuminates and the UPS emits short beeps for one minute. The UPS repeats the alarm every five hours. Input circuit breaker trips Allow battery to recharge for 24 hours. Perform the self-test procedure to confirm the replace battery condition. The alarm stops and the LED clears if the battery passes the self-test. If the battery fails again, the UPS must be replaced. The connected equipment is unaffected. The connected equipment exceeds the specified maximum load as defined in Specifications on the APC by Schneider Electric Web site, Unplug all nonessential equipment from the UPS. Reset circuit breaker. There is no utility power There is no utility power and the UPS is off. Use cold start feature to supply power to connected equipment from the UPS batteries. Press and hold the POWER ON/OFF button. There will be a short beep followed by a longer beep. Release the button during second beep. UPS operates on battery although line voltage exists The UPS input circuit breaker trips. The system is experiencing very high, very low or distorted line voltage. Unplug all nonessential equipment from the UPS. Reset circuit breaker. Move the UPS to a different outlet on a different circuit: Inexpensive fuel powered generators may distort the voltage. Test input voltage with utility voltage display. Refer to Operation on page 6 in this manual. If acceptable to connected equipment, reduce the UPS sensitivity. Online LED There is no LED illumination. The LED is blinking. The UPS is operating on battery, or it is not turned on. The UPS is running an internal self-test. Radio Frequency Warning Class A products This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense. 14 Two Year Limited Factory Warranty Schneider Electric IT Corporation (SEIT), warrants its products to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two (2) years excluding the batteries, which are warranted for one (1) year from the date of purchase. The SEIT obligation under this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing, at its own sole option, any such defective products. Repair or replacement of a defective product or parts thereof does not extend the original warranty period. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser who must have properly registered the product within 10 days of purchase. Products may be registered online at warranty.apc.com. SEIT shall not be liable under the warranty if its testing and examination disclose that the alleged defect in the product does not exist or was caused by end user s or any third person s misuse, negligence, improper installation, testing, operation or use of the product contrary to SEIT s recommendations or specifications. Further, SEIT shall not be liable for defects resulting from: 1) unauthorized attempts to repair or modify the product, 2) incorrect or inadequate electrical voltage or connection, 3) inappropriate on site operation conditions, 4) Acts of God, 5) exposure to the elements, or 6) theft. In no event shall SEIT have any liability under this warranty for any product where the serial number has been altered, defaced, or removed. EXCEPT AS SET FORTH ABOVE, THERE ARE NO WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, BY OPERATION OF LAW OR OTHERWISE, APPLICABLE TO PRODUCTS SOLD, SERVICED OR FURNISHED UNDER THIS AGREEMENT OR IN CONNECTION HEREWITH. SEIT DISCLAIMS ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, SATISFACTION AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. To obtain service under warranty you must obtain a Returned Material Authorization (RMA) number from customer support. Open the Support tab at the top of the web page to obtain information for customer support in your region. 15 Service If the unit requires service, do not return it to the dealer. Follow these steps: 1. Review the Troubleshooting section of the manual to eliminate common problems. 2. If the problem persists, contact APC Customer Support. a. Note the model number and serial number and the date of purchase. The model and serial numbers are located on the rear panel of the unit and are available through the LCD display on select models. b. Call APC Customer Support and a technician will attempt to solve the problem over the phone. If this is not possible, the technician will issue a Service Request Number. c. If the unit is under warranty, the repairs are free. 3. An Authorised Service Representative will visit your location and try to resolve the issue.
