3 High performance On-line systems and data protection Smart-UPS DP: A Smart-UPS available up to 10kVA/10kW The Smart-UPS DP family encompasses all of the reliability and manageability you ve come to expect from a Smart-UPS in an environmentally friendly on-line unit in sizes up to 10kVA. The Smart-UPS DP is designed to work in environments where centralised management of multiple servers is required, and is ideal for protecting server farms and datacenter equipment. The Smart-UPS DP also efficiently protects small mainframes, minicomputers, groups of PC LAN workstations, point-of-sale systems, telecommunications equipment and electronic control systems. The output power factor is rated to 1.0 for today's power factor corrected loads. APC s Smart-UPS DP family provides the reliability and manageability of APC s award-winning Smart-UPS family, in an environmentally friendly on-line unit. Reliability 25% more real power for your loads Power factor ratings of power supplies have increased recently which place a much higher demand on your UPS for more real power. Typically, UPS are rated to deliver an output power factor of 0.65 to 0.75, while the Smart-UPS DP is rated to deliver a power factor of 1.0. This translates to more use-able real power for you. Computer Power Supplies now have power factor ratings of 1.0. UPS's protecting these loads must be sized in Watts (W) as that is the more accurate and meaningful description of what the unit can deliver. Since Smart-UPS DP has an output power factor of 1.0, (watts = volt-amps) you actually receive at least 25% more real power than from other units. That translates to a UPS that is properly sized - not oversized. Which means cost savings. For example, a typical application of 2 enterprise class servers rated at 8000 power factor corrected Watts. :A legacy 12 kva UPS with a.67 power factor rating can deliver 8000 Watts while the same application can be covered by a Smart-UPS DP 8 kva, 8000 Watt UPS. Pre-failure diagnostics Smart-UPS DP continuously monitors its health and proactively informs you of the results via Web, SMNP, or paging. Power Management Software Smart-UPS DP interfaces with the included PowerChute plus software to completely manage the UPS. During extended outages and low battery instances, PowerChute plus will perform a graceful, automatic shutdown of the attached system. PowerChute plus allows you to manage your systems via: Serial Connection Single or multiple servers using the included serial cable or the 2-Port Interface Expanders (AP9607), or the 8-Port Interface Expander (AP9207), sold separately. PowerView (Part# AP9215) This remote display puts all power and UPS information at a system administrator s fingertips in a menu-based format available in several languages. With monitoring and control parameters such as input voltage, level of redundancy, temperature and humidity, the display helps manage Smart-UPS DP. Four LED indicators report the operational status of the Smart-UPS DP indicating whether the unit is operating on-line, onbattery, on-bypass or experiencing an internal fault condition. The Isolated Extension Cable (AP9825) can be used to manage the Smart-UPS DP at a monitoring station up to 300 feet (100 meters) away. Web, SNMP, and Telnet manageability (Part# AP9606) APC s Web/SNMP Management Card provides full remote monitoring, control, and configuration of the unit via open standards protocols including HTTP, SNMP, and Telnet. In the event of an extended power outage, it can command a virtually unlimited number of systems running PowerChute Network Shutdown to gracefully shut down, while all communications occur over the network. PowerChute Network Shutdown PowerChute Network Shutdown provides reliable, graceful, unattended shutdown of multiple computer systems over a network, upon low battery warning. It communicates across the network via the included Web/SNMP Management Card and can be quickly and easily configured via a Web browser. The included CD contains support for Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000, Novell NetWare, IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, and Linux. Other operating systems are available for download at APC s website. MasterSwitch Power Management (Part# AP9211 or AP9212) APC MasterSwitch provides complete Web, SNMP, and Telnet management and control of your network s power. The MasterSwitch network manageable power distribution unit (PDU) gives the network administrator complete remote control over the power to connected equipment. From anywhere on the network, administrators can use a network management station (NMS) or Web browser to power, shut off or reboot equipment. MasterSwitch cuts service costs and eases your power management burden. Share-UPS 8-port Interface Expander (Part# AP9207) Share-UPS can be used as an alternative to network shutdown through the use of dedicated cables. It provides safe, automatic shutdown of up to 8 servers (even mixed OS) or daisy-chained to shutdown up to 36 servers, while connected to one Smart-UPS DP via a serial connection. 5

6 SmartSlot Accessories provide custom management. Smart-UPS DP comes equipped with one SmartSlot, the unique accessory bay that allows you to slide various accessory cards into place without needing external communication or power supply connections. This SmartSlot gives you the scalability to expand network power management capabilities and build a custom power management strategy to serve any computing environment. Out-of-Band Management Card (Part# AP9608) The Out-of-band Management Card works with an external modem to provide out-of-band UPS management for Smart-UPS DP, allowing you to reboot a distant locked-up device through an out-of-band modem link. You can also determine UPS status, diagnose power problems and configure UPS settings even when LAN communications are not available. The Out-of-Band Management Card can even page you whenever UPS power alerts occur. Environmental Monitoring Card (Part# AP9612TH) Smart-UPS DP supports the Environmental Monitoring Card, which works with the Web/SNMP Management Card to provide environmental information such as ambient temperature and humidity, and to provide four user-definable contact closures for external alerts. Relay I/O Card (Part# AP9610) Allows you to control and monitor power through a simple dry-contact interface, a communication format favored by manufacturers of PBXs, telecom devices and alarm management systems. Intelligent Battery Management CellGuard means longer battery life The precision battery charging system and automatic true-load battery test, coupled with the redundant overcharge protection contributes to longer battery life. Batteries are charged based on a complex temperature compensation method to increase charge time and optimize useful life. Battery temperatures inside the UPS and matching battery packs are constantly monitored with charge current and voltage continually adjusted to an ideal level. 5-Port 10Base-T Hub (Part# AP9615) Expand or create a Local Area Network (LAN) by installing it into the Smart-UPS DP without using valuable rack space. The 5-Port 10Base-T Hub can be used with external hubs to create additional ports by allowing them to daisy-chain together. Expansion Chassis (Part # AP9600) and Triple Expansion Chassis (Part # AP 9604) The Expansion and Triple Expansion Chasses allow you to add additional SmartSlot accessories to your SmartUPS DP to provide a customised management solution. Battery Replacement Warning prevents Downtime The Smart UPS DP automatically performs a self-test every 2 weeks; this ensures you will be alerted to degraded batteries before they wear out. Faster Recharge Time The battery charging system is microprocessor controlled to precisely charge the batteries in less time than legacy UPS systems. 8 Accessories APC s Smart-UPS DP accessories enhance the reliability and versatility of your UPS System. In addition to the SmartSlot accessories listed on pages 5 and 6, the following are available to customise your solution to your needs. External Service By-Pass The External Service By-Pass allows for periodic, proactive system maintenance or load maintenance without bringing down the system to perform them. Quite often, this accessory is used during a building phase to allow for expansion without bringing loads to connect them to the UPS or to by-pass the UPS in the event of a catastrophe. Thus, unwanted interruptions are prevented and technicians are protected from the risk of electric shock. Extended Runtime Options Smart-UPS DP has two battery options that can be added to extend runtimes. The battery cabinets are space efficient and can greatly increase available runtime. These optional cabinets are an excellent choice for areas of poor power quality and other areas where extended times on battery may be required or desired to meet operational needs. These are typically used for telecommunications applications, PBX s, and building security systems. Start-Up Service (Part No: WISTL-*) APC s Start-Up Service provides customers with APC Authorized Personnel to ensure proper Start-Up of SUDP systems. APC will energize and check functionality of the system in all modes to ensure compliance with stated technical specifications. In all cases, the system must be electrically installed prior to the Start-Up. APC will guarantee that the system is operating according to APC standards. On-Site Support (Part No: WSVNDX1-* or WSVNDX3-*) The On-Site Support Service from APC extends the standard warranty on the SUDP by 1 or 3 years. Furthermore this service includes next business day On-Site response to service calls and 7x24 Telephone Technical Support. Parts, internal batteries, labor and travel are all included in the On-Site Support Service. 4-Hour Response (Part No: WUPC) The APC 4-Hour Response Service is designed for mission critical environments that require immediate response from a service call. APC s standard response time to on-site service calls is next business day but with this service APC will provide authorized personnel on-site within 4 hours from the point APC Technical Support deems on-site visit is necessary. The 4-Hour Response Service includes nights, weekends and holidays. Off-Hours Scheduling (Part No: WUPA) The Off-hours Scheduling allows the customer to schedule the Start-Up Service, on holidays, evenings and weekends.
