Trickle charging (continuous charging) C arry out trickle charging by apply ing the current of 0.03 to 0.05 C ma. The correct current value is determined depending on the features and purpose of the equipment. 7 Battery handling and precautions Storage Storage temperature and humidity Store batteries in a dry location with low humidity, no corrosiv e gases, and a temperature range of -20 C to 45 C. Storing batteries in a location where humidity is extremely high or temperature fall below -20 C or rise abov e 45 C leads to the rusting of metallic parts and battery leakage due to expansion or contraction in parts composed of organic materials. Long-term storage (2 y ears, -20 C to 35 C ) A s long-term storage can accelerate battery self-discharge and lead to the deactiv ation of reactants, locations where the temperature ranges between 10 C and 30 C are suitable for long-term storage.. When charging for the first time after long-term storage, deactiv ation of reactants may hav e led to increased battery v oltage an decreased battery capacity. Restore such batteries to original performance through repeating sev eral cy cles of charging and discharging. When storaging a battery for more than 1 y ear, charge at least once a y ear to prev ent leakage and deterioration in performance due to self-discharging. When using a rapid charger of v oltage detection ty pe, carry out charge and discharge at least once ev ery 6 months. Disassembly Nev er disassemble a battery, as the electroly te inside is strong alkaline and can damage skin and clothes. Short-circuiting Nev er attempt to short-circuit a battery, doing so can damage the product and generate heat that can cause burns. T hrowing batteries into fire or water Disposing a battery in fire can cause the battery to rupture. A lso av oid placing batteries in water, as this causes batteries to cease to function. Soldering Nev er solder any thing directly to a battery. This can distroy the safety features of the battery by damaging the safety v ent inside the cap. A lways solder onto solder tag for connection. Inserting the batteries with their polarities reversed Nev er insert a battery with the positiv e and negativ e poles rev ersed, as this can cause the battery to swell or rupture. Overcharging at high currents and reverse charging Nev er rev erse charge or ov ercharge with high current. Doing so causes rapid gas generation and increased gas pressure, thus causing batteries to swell or rupture. C harging with an unspecified charger or specified charger that has been modified can cause batteries to swell or rupture. Be sure to indicate this safety warning clearly in all operating instruction as a handling restriction for ensuring safety. Installation in equipment with a sealed construction A lway s av oid a sealed construction when batteries are to be incorporated into a product. In some case, gases (oxy gen, hy drogen) may be giv en off, and there is a danger of the batteries bursting or rupturing in the presence of a source of ignition (sparks generated by a motor switch, etc.). Use of batteries for other purposes Do not use a battery for an appliance for which it was not intended. Differences in specifications can lead to damage to the battery or appliance. Short-circuiting of battery packs Special caution is required to prev ent short-circuit. Because of product of battery shape, in case battery packs which is used as insertion to equipment may be inserted in rev erse. A lso, caution must be giv en to certain structures, which, depending on product terminal shape, for instance, can make short-circuiting more likely. Using old and new batteries together Avoid using old and new batteries together. A lso, av oid using these batteries with ordinary dry -cell batteries, NiC d-batteries or with another manufacture s batteries. Differences in v arious characteristics v alues, etc., can cause damage to batteries or the product. Other precautions Batteries should alway s be charged prior to use. Be sure to charge correctly. In order to assure safe battery use and to prolonge the battery characteristics, please consult V abo regarding conditions for use and product structure prior to the release of a battery -operated product.
