3 Our profile Edscha, with headquarters in Remscheid, Germany, is a high-performing partner of the automotive industry. Founded in 1870, the company has developed from a manufacturer of fittings for coaches into the world s largest supplier of hinge systems. Under the umbrella of the Spanish automotive supplier Gestamp, today we serve almost all automakers with our products and our know-how from 22 world locations, 19 of which are production facilities. We have some 5,200 employees. Together with the automakers our teams of experts develop convincing solutions for up-to-date vehicle concepts. With cost-optimized, perfectly tailored products we secure competitive advantages for our customers. Not least, our high manufacturing skill makes us a recognized, reliable first-tier supplier. 4 Business units Technological excellence In each of our business units Body Components, Powered Systems and Driver Controls we occupy a top position in the competition. We are world market and innovation leaders for door hinges and door checks. In the area of driver controls such as pedal boxes and foot-operated parking brakes as well as drives for the fully automatic opening and closing of rear lids and liftgates we rank among the leading European suppliers of such products. Body Components Powered Systems Driver Controls The product portfolio of our largest business unit comprises hinges for vehicle doors, hoods and liftgates, plus door checks and door hinges with integrated door checks. In addition, we develop completely new door opening concepts. Edscha is the world market leader and innovation leader for door hinges and door checks. Its share of the European market is greater than 50 percent. Edscha currently produces more than 140 million door hinges and more than 70 million door checks annually. Rear lids and liftgates that open and close at the push of a button are becoming increasingly popular. Drivers appreciate their simple and clean operation and above all the added comfort. Edscha, as the first system developer, put an electric spindle drive for liftgates on the market and thus set a benchmark. The experience from numerous production projects have entered into the latest generation of spindle drives. A powerful electric motor and high precision are the hallmarks of this system. Perfect adaptation to the vehicle, reliability and ease of use: foot-operated parking brakes and handbrakes are key safetyrelated parts and thus have to meet maximum quality standards. Edscha can fall back here on a comprehensive product range and outstanding expertise in lightweight design. Especially for our foot controls we make growing use of parts made from plastic or hybrid composites. Lightweight design also is the center of attention where parking brakes are concerned.

5 Innovations System solutions Having good ideas is one side of the coin; the other is to have suitable structures that enable the development of ideas into a product ready for production. Process orientation, strategic prioritization and the utilization of international network structures are just a few of the success factors that determine our innovative power. A worldwide development and production network as well as an innovative product portfolio cost-optimized and tailored to customer needs distinguish us from the competition. Active pedestrian protection The protection of pedestrians involved in accidents with cars has improved significantly in the past years. Among other things, the concept of the active hood with its special pedestrian protection hinges has contributed to this progress. If worst comes to worst and a collision with a pedestrian occurs, within a few milliseconds such a hinge rises up a small, but crucial bit contrary to the normal opening direction to create an impact absorbing zone. Edscha Soft Stop More comfort and flexibility for entering and leaving a vehicle is offered by stepless door checks integrated into the door hinge. With the Soft Stop, Edscha has an innovative system that enables safely staying the door in any position desired. Drivers thus can determine the door opening width themselves and make optimal use of the available space. The holding effort characteristics can be individually adapted to the vehicle. In addition, the Edscha Soft Stop is maintenancefree and paintable. Drives for excellent visibility Electrically powered liftgates with drives from Edscha not only are a visible improvement, they improve visibility. With its latest generation of drives, Edscha currently markets the system with the smallest external diameter not more than 30 mm. Apart from reducing space needs, this substantially improves the view to the rear. Moreover, these innovative drives for fully automatic opening and closing of rear lids and liftgates currently are the lightest available: the entire system weighs 950 g.
