1 Solar Lighting Kit Instruction Manual Thank you for choosing the PowertoAfrica Solar Lighting Kit. Our system has been designed to last for many years. If you have a problem the system can be easily repaired. Make sure you read this instruction manual carefully before operating your system. Operating Instructions 1. Front Panel Layout Power On Light Power Switch Low Voltage Light Charging Light USB Charging Outputs Solar Panel Input LED light outputs 2. Charging the Battery - Place the solar panel in full sunlight pointing towards the sun. Avoid any shadow. - Plug the solar panel into the Solar Panel Input - The charging light will flash red when the battery is being charged - The charging light will turn green when the battery fully charged. - You can also use the optional AC charging adapter (input AC V,output DC15V/2A) to charge the battery. It plugs into the Solar Panel Input. Indicator lights red when charging, and turns Green when fully charged Place the panel in the sun avoid any shadows Page 1 / 5

2 3. Using the Lights - Gently screw LED light into the light holder until firm. (see picture below) - Plug light lead into LED light output. - Switch system on using ON/.OFF switch - Switch light on using switch on light lead Screwing LED bulb into the holder Plug lead into LED light output Turn on Power Switch and turn on switch on light lead 4. Using the USB Charging Output - Plug your phone or any other product that charges from USB into the USB charging output. - You may need a multi charger cord to do this. -The system will automatically supply power to the item being charged -The USB output can be used to supply power to other DC loads eg Small DC fans with a USB plug 5. Charging a Laptop - Latops can be charged by plugging in a DC to DC converter into the LED lighting output. - These are available from PowertoAfrica / Solar Isitolo outlets. Page 2 / 5

3 6. Running a Small TV/DVD - Small 12v TV/DVD players can be plugged directly into the LED light output - These units are available from PowertoAfrica / Solar Isitolo outlets. 7. Indicator Lights - When the system is turned on the POWER light and the LOW BATTERY light will be green. - When the battery reaches 50% discharge the LOW BATTERY light will flash red. - When the battery reaches 25% charge the unit will turn off. - When the solar panel is plugged in and charging the battery the CHARGING light will flash red. - When the battery is fully charged the CHARGING light will turn green. 8. Current Limiter Instead of a fuse the system uses a current limiter to protect itself. If the output current is exceeded, the system will automatically switch off. When this happens the POWER light is green with red flashing. To reset the system you need to turn the POWER switch off and on twice. 9. ATTENTION IMPORTANT INFORMATION A. HEATING THE PANEL DOES NOT PRODUCE ELECTRICITY (e.g. in front of a fire) Place the panel facing the sun, avoiding any shadows. B. DO NOT OPEN THE SYSTEM CABINET. By opening the cabinet you will void the warranty. Only trained Technicians are permitted to disassemble this product. If any question or doubt occurs in the operation of this unit, please contact PowertoAfrica, 330 Aries Street, Waterkloof Ridge, Pretoria or on +27 (0) C. DO NOT PLACE THE SYSTEM NEAR FLAMMABLE OR EXPLOSIVE MATERIALS. This may cause fire and property damage. D. MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED BEFORE USING FOR THE FIRST TIME. - The system comes charged but needs to be left on charge for a full day before using for the first time. E. DO NOT PUT ANY PART OF THE SYSTEM INTO WATER. Water damage voids the warranty. F. TREAT THE SOLAR PANEL WITH CARE. Avoid pressure or bumps to the surface and keep it clean for the best charging effect. G. THE BATTERY SHOULD BE FULLY CHARGED AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH WHEN THE PRODUCT IS Page 3 / 5

Trouble Shooting Solar charging indicator does not light when there is sunshine LED lights don t work No power for lights or USB charging LOW VOLTAGE light is red The system charges very quickly and only powers the lights for a short time The POWER light is green with red flashing, and no power for lights and USB charging - Check whether the Solar Panel is plugged into the solar charging input correct - Check the panel is facing the sun. - Check whether the light lead is plugged into the light output - Check the light globe is screwed in to the lamp holder correctly. - Check that the system power switch is ON - Check that the switch on the light lead is ON - Replace the LED bulb. - The system is in the low voltage protection condition - Charge the battery before using again. - Return to PowertoAfrica / Solar Isitolo outlets for Battery replacement - The system is in overload protection. - reduce the load (e.g. laptop charger) - switch the power system off and on twice 11. Product Description A. This is a DC power supply system, designed especially for users in remote locations. B. The main circuit of this system is a high performance, high precision 12 digit AD processor operating as the system controller. The unit is equipped with a range of various functions such as overcharging limitation, over discharging protection; standby voltage for low power consumption; USB output and overload protection; independent charging and discharging. C. The DC output of the system has multiple interfaces that can satisfy various demands. DC output interfaces include 6*12V DC and 2*DC 5V USB Outputs. 12. Operational Description A. With the monolithic processor as the major controller, this system effectively manages all charging processes. The key function of overcharge & over discharged protection can extend the life span of the battery. The processor protects against arcing during the low voltage conditions. B. The standby function: Following five minutes after startup, if no output loads are detected the system will automatically enter into a low power consumption standby mode. C.USB output overload protection: The USB output will shut down automatically if the maximum output current exceeds 1000mA when charging for mobiles, MP3, and digital camera etc. D. Overload protection: The output will shut down automatically when current exceeds 5 Amps E. Independent Charging & Discharging: The system can charge and discharge independently. F.
