Presentation Roles of the battery tester "MIDTRONICS" : To avoid any battery failures arising after handover to the customer To remove contraints on accessibility : A special PSA software performs a reliable check either on the battery terminals or on remote terminals (battery recharge terminals) Direct reading of the diagnosis on the battery tester (Battery OK ; Battery requires charging ; Battery must be replaced ) Performs diagnosis based both on the reading of the voltage and the state of health of the battery Creates a "test code" in 15 characters, giving the technical data from the test Advantages of the battery tester "MIDTRONICS" : Gain in productivity : Produces the result of the check in less than 7 seconds in all circumstances Gain in reliability : Direct reading of the diagnosis on the battery tester (No human interpretation ) Gain in economic terms : No unjustified replacement of a battery Gain in terms of traceability : The battery tester is able to transmit the "test code" via an infrared link to the diagnostic tool for the monitoring of justification of warranty claims (consistency between the result of the check and the action taken by the new vehicle preparer) 2. Method of operation N.B. : The BSI should be in the park shunt position. For the measurement to be reliable, perform the battery test at the start of the PDI, respecting the following mode of operation : Switch on the ignition Switch on the dipped headlamps Start the engine Move the vehicle forwards into the inspection zone Stop the engine but leave the ignition on Wait 5 seconds Turn the dipped headlamps off Switch off the ignition Switch off all the electrical functions (Wipers ; Ventilation ) Get out of the vehicle Close the accesses Wait 3 minutes Perform the battery test N.B. : Placer le shunt situé sur le boîtier de servitude intelligent en position "client" pour effectuer les contrôles batterie après la Préparation Véhicule Neuf. 3. N.B. : The contact surface between the end of the battery cap (3) and the terminal of the battery is too weak to transmit the battery parameters to the battery tester. In this case the measurement by the battery tester could cause you to perform a

4 C5 (X7) - E3BM010BP0 - New vehicle preparation : Instructions for use - Battery tester "MIDTRONICS" Page 4 of 11 CAUTION : Connect the black clip from the battery tester on a metallic part (1) near to the terminals of the battery, and as close as possible to the crimping of the power lead Vehicles having a battery charge status control unit on the negative terminal Figure : D1AM04LD CAUTION : Never connect the black clip of the battery tester on the crimped bracket "a" exiting from the battery charge status control unit (4) (The Midtronics tester if connected on the lug "a" activates the battery charge status control unit and the current consumed by the latter results in a tester diagnosis error ). Connect the black clip of the battery tester at the terminal "b" entering the battery charge status control unit (4). N.B. : The electrical resistance of the battery charge status control unit (4) influences the measuring action of the battery tester. In this case the measurement by the battery tester could cause you to perform a battery recharge needlessly. 4. Instructions for use URGENT : Compliance with these instructions determines the reliability of the diagnosis delivered by the battery tester. The reliability of the diagnosis can be checked by a decoding of the "test code" Connecting the battery tester

Connect the battery tester to the battery. The battery tester is supplied with voltage. N.B. : If this is not the case : Press on button "c" to supply the battery tester with voltage. Select : Location of measurement points Location of measurement points At the battery terminals that are directly accessible Remote terminals (battery recharge terminals) Definition The 2 clips are connected directly on the battery terminals The black clip is connected to a body earth. The red clip is connected on the battery positive terminal (In compliance with the procedure indicated in the user precautions ) The red clip is connected to a separate terminal under the bonnet. The black clip is connected to a body earth Technical justification The negative battery terminal is inaccessible The battery is difficult to access owing to its location in the boot or under the seat N.B. : If the flap giving access to the battery located in the boot permits, perform the check at the battery terminals (In compliance with the procedure indicated in the user precautions ). CAUTION : The batteries in the tester have to be charged up so as to prevent any cutting out and thus loss of the test. When the check is being done on remote terminals (battery recharge terminals) and it is necessary to measure the temperature, do this in proximity to the battery : Disconnect the battery tester ; Position the battery tester close to the battery ; Record the temperature ; Reconnect the battery tester on the battery recharge terminals to complete the test. CAUTION : If the engine was running just prior to the battery test, or following a battery replacement, the battery tester may display "superficial charge detected". It is possible that the battery tester may ask you to delete the superficial charge before commencing the test (switch the headlamps on and then off). CAUTION : Replacement of the battery cannot be diagnosed resulting from a measurement taken on remote terminals (battery recharge terminals). The battery tester sometimes requires the operator to check the battery directly on the nipple studs of the battery. Results of the measuring 5.1. Actions recommended as a function of the diagnosis of the battery Battery diagnosis Action recommended BATTERY OK Reactivate the battery CHARGE THE BATTERY Fully recharge the battery in order to reactivate it CHARGE & RETEST REPLACE THE BATTERY. Fully recharge the battery and perform a new test If the battery is not recharged before the new test, the results risk being false Once the battery is fully recharged, if the message "CHARGE & RETEST" displays again, replace the battery Replace the battery and redo the test The message "REPLACE THE BATTERY" may also indicate a problem with the connection between the battery and its cables - Disconnect the battery cables - Do a test of the battery outside the vehicle before replacing it REPLACEMENT FAULTY Replace the battery and redo the test 5.2. Result screens The result of the battery test is displayed on 4 screens that can be accessed via the direction arrows on the keypad.

When the "MIDTRONICS" battery tester displays the result of the check : Connect the infrared USB link to the diagnostic tool ( "MIDTRONICS" battery tester kit ) Turn the "MIDTRONICS" battery tester to the infrared USB link Press 2 times on the button "TRANSF" (Battery tester ) Follow the instructions given in the diagnostic tool 7. Retrieval of the results in the diagnostic tool URGENT : If replacing the diagnostic tool, keep a safe record of the New Vehicle dossier and the file.csv. The records of the battery checks transferred into the diagnostic tool can be retrieved in 2 ways : In the New Vehicle Preparation report which is recorded automatically in the New Vehicle "PVN" dossier present in the diagnostic tool In the file.csv available at the addresses listed below Addresses : Diagnostic tool PPS : c:\app\outilrep\trace\pvn\bat LEXIA diagnostic tool : c:\applic\lexia\cfg\midtro PROXIA diagnostic tool : c:\midtronics 8. Mise à jour du testeur de batterie En fonction de la conception des nouveaux véhicules, il peut être nécessaire de mettre à jour le testeur de batterie.
