2 Nuclear AZZ Nuclear NLI is the largest third-party supplier of equipment solely focused on the nuclear industry. In the decade since NLI put an ASME III program in place, the supply of mechanical products has grown to be nearly half of NLI s business. Mechanical equipment has not changed quite as significantly as electrical and electronic equipment in the past 50 years. Modern gate valves and centrifugal pumps still appear and function very similar to legacy versions, and replacements for obsolete equipment are generally readily available. The most significant changes involve materials and manufacturing methods. These changes enabled the development of metal-seated ball valves and triple-offset butterfly valves designs that are more reliable than old gate and globe designs, and with better flow characteristics. 3 Valves NLI supplies both generic valves such as gate, globe, swing check, etc., and specialty valves, such as metal-seated ball valves and triple-offset butterfly valves. Valves may be supplied commercial grade or safetyrelated, and may also be supplied under NLI s ASME Section III Certificate of Authorization. There has been a great deal of consolidation in valve manufacturers in the past several decades. Acquisitions often result in obsolescence of certain models. OEMs manufacturing large quantities of new valves for general industry tend to be less responsive to requests to supply one or two obsolete valves for nuclear. With a focus solely on nuclear, NLI frequently supplies valves in considerably less time than valve OEMs. NLI has several alliances in place with valve manufacturers to facilitate supplying valves quickly to nuclear facilities. 4 Nuclear Actuators Quarter-turn and linear actuators are used in many remotely operated valve and damper applications in nuclear facilities. NLI supplies pneumatic, hydraulic, and motor-driven quarter-turn and linear actuators for a wide variety of nuclear plant applications. The quarter-turn pneumatic actuator is the workhorse for most small to medium sized valves. Commercial actuators are designed to be inexpensive and are simply replaced with newer models when worn out. This strategy is not aligned with nuclear facility practices. NLI takes a different approach and manufactures the only premium quarter-turn pneumatic actuator specifically designed for ease of maintenance and long life. The QTRCO all stainless steel actuator is quickly becoming the industry standard for safetyrelated applications and is also available in a version qualified for harsh high-radiation service. Pumps NLI supplies a variety of standard and specialty pumps, including those requiring ASME III certification. Standard ANSI pumps needed for safety-related applications are purchased generically, tested, and supplied under NLI s safety-related quality assurance program. Specialty pumps sometimes require qualification testing and modifications to meet the plant s requirements. Spare parts for legacy pumps can be reverse engineered and manufactured to permit older, often obsolete pumps to be maintained indefinitely. This includes frequently replaced parts such as impellers and wear rings, or less frequently replaced parts such as shafts and casings. 6 Nuclear Heat Exchangers NLI supplies shell & tube heat exchangers for a variety of plant applications, from small oil coolers up to first stage feed heaters. Whole new heat exchangers can be supplied to replace existing equipment or individual tube bundles, heads, or components can be supplied as needed. Legacy heat exchangers can be reverse engineered and equivalent replacements manufactured to minimize changes to plant piping systems. Fabrication In addition to pumps and valves, NLI also supplies piping, tubing and fittings, tanks and vessels, and when coupled with NLI s instrumentation and control products, NLI can supply entire systems, including temporary skids. Other Mechanical Equipment NLI supplies flood barriers, watertight doors and hatches, and even containment hatches. NLI frequently works with commercial quality manufacturers of products such as high-speed couplings to supply technically superior products safety-related. NLI supplies fabricated pipe segments, tanks, vessels, or whole systems. 6
