3 APPLICATIONS Our materials enable the best fitting solutions for automotive (hybrid, micro-hybrid and electric vehicles) and stationary applications (solar and wind power storage systems). e-car stationary applications e-bus e-bike Secured access to raw materials belife has a secured access to high quality raw materials. Sourcing is secured by Prayon s strong link with its shareholder OCP SA (Office Chérifien des Phosphates, Morocco), which owns 70 % of worldwide reserves of rock phosphate. The Prayon process for the manufacture of pure phosphoric acid provides belife with a competitive advantage in the application of phosphate chemistry.
4 A century of expertise in phosphate chemistry As a world leader in the production of phosphates, Prayon benefits from a century of expertise in phosphate chemistry. Headquartered in Engis (Belgium), Prayon has two manufacturing sites in Belgium, one in France and one in the United States. The Group offers: Large-scale production capacity A high-speed, low-cost continuous process A preferred supplier status to the food processing industry, ensuring high quality, traceability, purity and performance. Worldwide license from LiFePO 4+C Licensing AG belife s lithium iron phosphate was initially developed by the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission (CEA). In 2008, a technology transfer agreement was signed with Prayon allowing the Belgian company to fully exploit CEA s patented technology. In May 2012, Prayon obtained a worldwide license for its product from LiFePO 4 +C Licensing AG. LiFePO 4 +C Licensing (an affiliate of Clariant AG) represents patent owners Hydro-Québec (Canada), Université de Montréal (Canada) and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (France). The LFP patent rights associated with the license include worldwide protection for LFP technology, patents on the invention of basic LFP materials, carbon-coating patents usable with LFP materials and carbon coating process patents. Prayon is the sixth company to reach such an agreement with LiFePO 4 +C, which grants a limited number of sublicenses to suitable LFP/LMP producers capable to address the market demand with high quality products. Today belife benefits from this licence. Proven cathode material supplier Building on its 200 years of experience in metals related activities, Umicore was one of the pioneers in this advanced battery race and became quickly the preferred supplier of cobalt based lithium-ion cathode materials for the portable electronics market. Today, Umicore is the biggest producer of cathode materials worldwide and one battery out of five keeps you operating thanks to the Umicore technology inside. In recent years, the electrification of transportation as well as the increasing use of renewable wind and solar electricity has brought new challenges in energy storage.
