1 Water & Waste Water Utilities (Public) Public Utilities (Water System & Wastewater System) WATER SYSTEM The current water supply for the City of Red Oak is rather unique. Portions of the City are covered by a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN). This area was formerly supplied by a City run well system. It is currently supplied by a water line from the City of Dallas Water Utilities (DWU). The water is transported by a 36 inch water line to the Methodist Pump Station. In addition to the CCN, a significant portion of land within the City limits is covered by Rockett Special Utility District and almost all of the land area in the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJJ) is supplied water by the Rockett SUD. There are three emergency water connections; two with Rockett Water Supply Corporation and one with the City of Glenn Heights. An additional factor in the City s water supply is the fact that the City currently owns water rights in the amount of 1.5 million gallons per day in the Tarrant Regional Water System. These allocations can be used in a variety of ways in the future either by direct usage or by transferring to another entity in exchange for obtaining treated water. The City has received an average of 18.4 million gallons per month from DWU (range 10.8 to 26.8 million gallons per month). Adopted January 10, 2010) WASTEWATER SYSTEM The City of Red Oak is currently served by the Trinity River Authority for wastewater treatment. The treatment plant serving the City is the Red Oak Creek Regional Treatment Plant. This plant serves Red Oak and the communities of Ovilla and Glenn Heights; and portions of DeSoto, Cedar Hill and Lancaster. The plant is currently capable of serving 35,000 people and has a capacity of 3.5 million gallons per day (mgd). The flows developed by the City of Red Oak range from 0.6 mgd to 1.2 mgd. The current plant is capable of expansion to 6 mgd. Due to the terrain within the City, lifts are required to make the collection system effective. 4 Utilities (Private) Private Utilities (Electricity, Natural Gas, Telecommunication) ELECTRICITY Texas is the only state with its own power grid, making it completely independent from other national networks, where one state's decisions may affect electricity markets in all other states. Additionally, the Texas grid is not subject to federal regulation over electrical transmission, which expedites the regulatory process for new energy development. Texas leads the nation in electricity production and consumption. Texas' electric power industry generates approximately 11 percent of the nation's capacity. Nuclear Power: Texas is also a major nuclear power generating state with nuclear energy being generated at two plants. The Comanche Peak project in north Central Texas has a 2,300 MW operating capacity and 2,700 MW is being produced at the South Texas Project near the Gulf Coast. Coal Fired-Power: Texas is top-ranked for coal production and is one of the top two states for lignite coal production. Wind Energy: Texas leads the nation in installed wind energy capacity (10,394 MW as of January 2012). Texas' dominance in the wind industry is also demonstrated through it being home to six of the ten largest wind power projects in the nation and two of the three largest wind farms in the western hemisphere, Roscoe Wind Farm and Horse Hollow Wind Farm. Texas is also a global leader in wind energy production, ranking 6th in the world.
