3 SMART GRID STANDARDS 100,000 FOOT VIEW Smart Grid continues to be a high priority for the Administration See OSTP Blog SGIP is a ground breaking organization, off to a fast start, built to last Great leadership team Over 600 member organizations, ~ 2000 individual representatives International participation NIST Release 1.0 Interoperability Framework and Roadmap published Starting point for SGIP first step in a 20 year journey Will be reissued from time to time reflecting SGIP results and recommendations NIST IR 7628 Cyber Security Strategy and Requirements released Sept. 1 Momentum must be sustained Many billions of dollars of investment depend on this work Standards, properly implemented, are essential to achieve the benefits 3

4 WHAT IS THE SGIP? Public private partnership to support NIST EISA responsibility Key word: ACCELERATION Open, transparent body Representation from all smart grid stakeholder groups 22 distinct categories, each with a voting representative in the Governing Board Not dominated by any one group SGIP does not directly develop or write standards Stakeholders participate in the ongoing coordination, acceleration and harmonization of standards development. Reviews use cases, identifies requirements, coordinates conformance testing, and proposes action plans for achieving these goals. 4
