Our product range has grown to offer more power supply products: It contains batteries, rectifiers, inverters, power supplies for every application and DC UPS for telecommunications or wireless network operators. EFFEKTA s product range is now complemented by successful solar photovoltaic products and LED lighting. Today: the company employs 100 staff EFFEKTA has been successfully working in the UPS market for over 25 years. Over the years, our company has come to epitomise reliability and quality and we are now one of the leading UPS manufacturers in Germany. The back-up time of the XL-models can be extended by additional external battery packs in a unified design. Its RackTower housing and the rotating LCD display allow both the use as a tower unit as well as installation in 19 cabinets. 18 Power Supplies MCI-Series On-line double conversion 700, 1000, 2000, 3000VA With expandable batteries Power factor 0.9 Description The MCI is EFFEKTA's newest online double-conversion UPS with power factor 0.9. It is equipped with an electronic bypass and is to be applied with supersensitive and critical applications like servers, workstations, measurement technology or industrial plants For full control and monitoring, it provides each one USB and RS232 interface and can be supplemented via its slot by optional communication cards. All models can be extended in the autonomy time through external battery packs. The XL versions increase this possibility by larger chargers. 42 Power Supplies Modular MHD Modular Online double-conversion 4-24kVA MHD Modular is a scalable single phase or three-phase double-conversion UPS and can be configured to a capacity of 4kVA, 8kVA, 12kVA, 16kVA, 20kVA, 24kVA with maximum 6 modules. It can be configured to parallel redundancy which provides the maximum reliability. And delivers power output per modules from 4kVA to 24 kva. The MHD Modular is scalable in the capacity between 4-24kVA as well as scalable in autonomy time with additional external battery cabinetts, or it can be configured for a N+X parallel redundancy as well. Each UPS system includes maximum six UPS modules that each module is operating independetly. If any one UPS module fails, the load is instantaneously redistributed among the remaining modules and the defective UPS module is automatically taken off-line from the system. The System absolutely prevents power failures, power sags, surges, brownouts, line noise, spikes, frequency variations switching transients and harmonic distortion. With its fast DSP-controller (Digital Signal Processing) it offers a highend sinewave-quality and high performance in controlling input & output. The display of MHD Modular shows all important UPS informations in a userfriendly way. The backlight improves the readability. All important messages concerning the configuration and diagnosis as well as controlls and management of the UPS can be seen at a glance. You can watch all data like input and output voltage, frequency, connection data, position and and actual state of the modules. 44 Power Supplies Modular MHD Modular LOAD LOAD The MHD Modular is a scalable online double-conversion UPS and with up to 6 modules it can be configured to 4kVA, 8kVA, 12kVA, 16kVA, 20kVA and 24kVA. One of the most important advantages of the modularand redundant design is the improved safety and reliability. If the MHD Modular is configured to N+X parallel- redundancy, the load is instantaneously redistributed among the remaining modules. Because each module is a seperately operating device, there is no central control system that could be damaged, so this also increases the safety. The MHD Modular has got hardwired outputs with one phase and can be used with one or three phase inputs alternatively. In case of operating with three phases, each of them is monitored by the UPS. Additional modules can be installed to the MHD Modular during normal operation without much time and effort. This hot swappable methode provides subsequent extension of the UPS system without any disturbance of normal operation of the users, so this system provides safing of costs. 53 UPS accessories EBU Electronic breaker unit for UPS consumers Description The electronic breaker unit EBU is a selective protection of the loads. The short-circuit current provided by UPSs is usually not enough to trigger a conventional thermal-magnetic overcurrent protection. If a load causes a short circuit, the entire UPS and thus each load is switched off. The EBU prevents this failure of the whole system. Only the affected load path is switched off, all other supply strings continue to operate. The EBU therefore increases plant availability and reduces the total cost of the on-location with more efficient design. BACS Technology Monitoring and regulating the charging process: The system is designed for monitoring and regulating lead-acid based accumulators in a group of batteries. Individual voltage regulation: BACS is regulating individually for every accumulator the voltage supply from the charger/ups. This results in a homogenous set of accumulators that increases the durability, capacity and resistance against sulphation and corrosion. This regulation process is patented as EQUALIZING. Avoid overcharging / undercharging: Through the EQUALIZING process the unnoticed overcharging of individual batteries (gassing, dry-out, thermal runaway) is prevented. Through the EQUALIZING process the unnoticed under-charging of individual batteries (sulphation, loss of capacity) is prevented. Indicator of battery problems: Typical battery problems like sulphation, corrosion, gassing, dry-out, thermal runaway etc. are visible through a rise of Impedance and temperature. Sulphation problems are typical for UPS batteries because they are consistently held at a float charge level for a long time. Its not guaranteed that ALL accumulators have really been fully charged when the UPS charge switches from boost charging to float charging. The result maybe that some accumulators are overcharged, while others have never been fully charged. EQUALIZING avoids sulphation through the process of bringing the overcharged and undercharged accumulators to a balanced voltage level. Protection of nearby batteries: Through the Equalizing process in balancing all individual voltages of the accumulators we avoid damages on neighboring batteries. Optimizing of battery capacity: BACS guarantees, through EQUALIZING, a full charge level and the optimal capacity of a battery system. Early warning to replace batteries: Through impedance trending you can see in the early stage that some accumulators are damaged or simply weaker than others. The earlier accumulators are replaced the better for an increased lifetime of the complete battery system. Battery alert system: Through monitoring of key parameters of the accumulators and measuring against set thresholds, the system is able to give you pre-warnings via audible, visible and network messages that attention is required. Power & Environmental alert system: The BACS system monitors environmental parameters (temperature, humidity, hydrogen gas concentration, acid fill level, DC current, etc.) and UPS data which included into the alert system of BACS. Maintenance: A BACS system improves the service quality by providing remote monitoring through Internet, VPN or other network for downloading real time data and battery history for analysis. Single, individual battery tests are now possible without the effort to disconnect batteries from the group. Maintenance and battery testing may take place at time, under real operating conditions, without downtime of the system! 62 Power Supplies II BACS II BACS Description In the right hand picture BACS Viewer shows the individual battery voltage of all accumulators at the end of a discharge. The red dotted line shows the voltages when power has returned. In the lower bar graph is shown which accumulators have collapsed earlier than others and have been discharged. to a very low level. These accumulators are a risk to the complete system. The reliability of an accumulator based power supply can only be guaranteed when the availability of each accumulator is at 100% capacity all of the time! The BACS battery modules have instruments for taking exact measurements of the internal resistance, temperature and voltage which are valuable for making a precise analysis of each battery. The data is transferred through a bus system to the BACS WEBMANAGER which is at the same time the manager for UPS, inverters, environmental sensors and other devices. The BACS WEBMANAGER acts as the central control unit by gathering, evaluating and storing all information on its internal flash MEMORY. A display shows the actual status of the accumulators, a 2nd display shows the actual UPS data and a 3rd display shows environmental data and alarm contacts status. The web browser interface of the system is designed for easy configuration, displaying all system values and events, a flexible EVENT MANAGER is the programming interface for automatic reactions in case of alarms. The BACS system limits the charge to the overcharged accumulators to avoid gassing and the drying out that would result from it. Each individual accumulator receives an optimal charging voltage through this EQUALIZING process. Limiting the charging voltages of the accumulator increases the durability and reliability of the whole system considerably. Rising internal resistance of an accumulator due to corrosion or sulphate deposits will trigger an alarm. Alarm values can be configured to match the type of battery. This early warning system makes it possible to warn users (by , -to-sms, network message, SNMP, RCCMD, MODBUS, PROFIBUS, LONBUS etc.) far in advance about battery weaknesses before it is too late. For instance, should sulfation increase internal resistance, the user can reverse this process with a series of discharging and charging cycles. The effect of such battery training on the internal resistance can be read immediately. In addition to internal resistance, the values for voltage, temperature, regulating activities and the number of charging / discharging cycles are constantly monitored and compared with preset thresholds. When any of the threshold values are exceeded, corresponding alarms will be communicated using the network connection, modem (optional), , SMS, SNMP, RCCMD, MODBUS and (optional) PROFIBUS or LONBUS. Locally, at an alarm, a buzzer acoustically warns the users. An alarm LED on the module and on the BACS system shows the alarm optically. The BACS WEBMANAGERs are equipped with a large flash MEMORY or SD memory cards that can log all system data for a duration of at least 6 months and up to 10 years dependent of the size of the system. All data can be downloaded and archived over the network in order to free-up storage capacity for further data logging and for analysis using the BACS VIEWER software or other graphical tools. The alarms for other devices connected to the BACS WEBMANAGER (e.g. UPS) are also logged in separate files with a date and time stamp and shown in the web interface. The BACS WEBMANAGER is equipped with a real-time clock for precise data/time stamps in the log files, additionally the system time is automatically synchronized with a network time server (SNTP). 60

These represent only sample configurations and can be programmed individually according to the requirements and priorities of the custome. 3-phase operation (4 & 5kVA models only) A single AX inverter is required for each phase. Only one battery system is used and shared by all three inverters. The inverters communicate with each other and generate a three phase current network. With this configuration, an entire house can be supplied with three phase power easily through PV and energy storage. At too low PV power, the energy required is first taken from the battery. If this is empty, the missing electricity is provided from the AC source. Note: 4 or 5 kva models & suitable communication cards are required for 3 ph. operating Parallel operation (4 & 5 kva models only) In the example on the left a maximum of four 5kVA inverters are connected in parallel and provide a total output of 20kVA. Each inverter must be connected to a seperate PV array. The AC source is shared. The energy storage device (battery) is charged by all the inverters. At too low PV power, the energy required is first taken from the battery. If this is empty, the lack of electricity is provided from the AC source. 95 AX-Series Basic principle and application scenarios The operating principle of the AX-inverter includes the supply with batteries in case of failure of other energy sources. Solar inverters Operation is possible with AGM, gel, NiCd, closed leadacid battery (OpzS, OpzV...). The batteries are charged via the integrated charger with 3-stage charge. EFFEKTA recommends Rolls brand batteries of the type T and CS 11P for the system. More details are available on request. Rolls 4000 Series / Type T Vented lead-acid battery 12V (6 cells), 200Ah (C20) 391 x 178 x 365mm D x W x H 55kg max. Solar powered with battery backup PV modules and AC source (mains or generator) are required. Consumers primarily are powered from the PV modules. When there is no or insufficient PV power initially, batteries provide the energy needed. When the batteries are empty the AC source jumps in. Surplus energy of the PV modules is used to charge the batteries. According to the needs and depending on the hardware configuration different supply priorities can be set via display or software. Upon failure of PV and AC power supply is powered on on batteries. Stand-alone ( Island- ) operation with battery backup The load is supplied by the inverter, which draws the energy from the PV modules. There are no AC sources. With sufficient PV power, the batteries are charged by PV. The charge is made exclusively with PV. Upon failure of the PV supply (eg. night mode), consumers can be supplied via the batteries. Missing PV power of inverter (low solar radiation) can be supplemented through the batteries. 93

100 Power Supplies HX Energy-Manager The HX Energy Manager is used to supplement the HX inverters in PV power system for its effective use. It monitors the current direction and by regulating the output power it s trying to set the power reference to 0 (3 phase compensation). Example without Energy Manager The PV power system (1, 2, 3) must be wired separately and can only provide individual consumers (4). The consumer power cannot exceed the HX-power of 3000 W. The PV system is in principle suitable for the storage of energy and infeed, but not optimized for it. Example with Energy Manager: The PV power system can be integrated into the home network. The consumer power can be larger than the HX-power (3000 W (5). Even 3-phase consumer or 3-phase networks are supported.
