11 Electric Mobility in Brazil Import Tax for EV and EVSE: from 35% to 0%. (Oct 2015); New set of public policies for the automotive sector from Jan 2018 in discussion. ( Rota 2030 ); Industrialized Products Tax may go from 25% to 7%; Expected introduction of energy and emissions efficiency criteria to define taxation. 16 Final Remarks The Electricity Regulator s main concern should not be to promote transport electrification. Rather, it should focus on: Reducing uncertainty/obstacles for those willing to invest; Looking after the interests of the electricity sector and bill payers; and Supporting established policy objectives.

17 Final Remarks [ ] However, the CRU has statutory duty to protect the interest of the electricity consumers. The CRU approved funds in order to allow an R&D trial to be carried out. As the trial has now concluded and the report has been published, there is no further basis on which the CRU could justify further funds beyond that required by the R&D trial. The CRU cannot impose costs on electricity customers to cross-subsidise the transport sector. Funding will have to come from other sources such as, for example subsidies, equity investment from other parties, or from fees recovered from the users of EVs.
