2 Date: 10 October 2012 Type Test Summary Report Type VRLTC Vacuum/Reactance Load Tap Changer ABB has tested the Type VRLTC, vacuum reactance load tap changer according to all appropriate national standards and ABB standards. The tap changer is, therefore, fully qualified for use at its rated values. In support of this certification, this report documents each of the tests that were applied to the tap changer. The tests were done at various laboratories in the United States and Sweden. The tests were witnessed by ABB personnel and in some cases, by non-abb witnesses. Detailed tests reports for each of the tests cited herein are available from ABB upon request. 5 Nomenclature In this report, the following nomenclature is used: Ivac = current through vacuum interrupter Vvac = voltage across the open contacts of the vacuum interrupter Vpeak = peak transient voltage that appears across the open contacts of the vacuum interrupter 1 Electrical tests 1.1 Temperature rise test IEEE standard: C , section 6.1 IEC standard: :2003(E), section ABB report number: 1ZUA ADR The specified current is passed through the tap changer until temperature stability is reached between the contact s temperature and the ambient oil temperature. The temperature gradient between the hottest spot on the contact structure and the ambient oil temperature must be equal to or less than the specified value. Current through the tap changer = 1.2 times rated load current, ie, 1,800 A PA circulating current = 60% Hottest spot contact temperature equal to or less than 20 C Result: Passed: maximum temperature rise = 13.4 C Page 4 of 13

7 2 Switching tests 2.1 Service duty test at reduced step voltage IEEE Standard: C section IEC Standard: IEC :2003(E) section ABB Report Number: 1ZUA ADC The tap changer is energized such that 1500 amperes flows continuously through the contact structure with 50% circulating current. The tap changer switches back and forth between position 3R and 4L making 50,000 tap changes. 8 2.3 Breaking capacity test IEEE Standard: C section IEC Standard: IEC :2003(E) section ABB Report Number: 1ZUA ADC A current of 2250 amperes is circulated through the tap changer, A voltage of 6 kv (Vvac) is applied across the open contacts of the vacuum interrupter. The maximum peak voltage that appears across the vacuum interrupter during load current interruption is Vpeak. 9 3 Mechanical tests 3.1 Mechanical endurance test IEEE standard: IEC standard: ABB report number: C (E) 1ZUA ADP Tap changer is moved through all positions, ie, from 16L to 16R as 32 test operations, with additional operations through the changeover switch to insure a minimum of 50,000 operations on the changeover switch. 100 operations at -25 C 500,000 operations at ambient air temperature Result: Passed mechanical endurance test 3.2 Mechanical test sequence and results IEEE standard: C , section and IEC standard: :2003(E), section and ABB report number: 1ZUA ADP The following tests were performed after the 25 C test and at regular intervals during the test; one tap change = one operation. Timing of the tap changer, all positions and all phases, raise and lower operations Micro-ohm measurements on all contact positions HIPOT of vacuum interrupter, all phases Displacement measurement of the vacuum interrupter, all phases Torque measurements Test sequence Visual inspection End-stop test (over run test) The motor-drive electrical end limits were manipulated to force the complete unit to run into the motor-drive mechanical end stop at maximum speed for a onesecond tap change. 10 Result: passed 100 tap changes at 25 C Result: passed 10,000 tap changes with current through LTC and with the motor-drive supply voltage lower than 85% of rated supply voltage (<102 VAC). Result: passed 10,000 tap changes with current through LTC, and with the motor-drive supply voltage greater than 110% of rated supply voltage (>132 VAC controls and >264 VAC servo). Result: passed 500,000 tap changes, 90 C oil temperature, at 100% motor-drive supply voltage, 50,000 operations through the reversing switch.
