3 Mulching cuts grass into tiny pieces, providing finely cut clippings for quicker and healthier decomposing. Lawn tractors are good for yards from 1 to 3 acres. They also accept attachments such as grass catchers, snow blades, and pull carts. Lawn tractors and garden tractors both accept attachments; only garden tractors will accept ground-engaging attachments (i.e. tiller, plow, cultivator and wheeled tow-behind accessories.) Side discharging disperses clippings across the lawn and is a good choice when grass is wet. When fertilizing, use a side discharge so fertilizer can penetrate. 7 Cutting power is a combination of three things- engine size, engine configuration, and mower configuration. Engine size is measured in cc s or cubic centimeters. The more cc s, the more cutting power it provides. Like in automobiles, mower engines with overhead valves offer substantially more power than those without OHV. OHV engines run more smoothly, efficiently, quietly and are better for the environment. Mower configuration factors deck size and features. The larger the deck, the shorter the mow time but the larger the blade and therefore the need for a larger OHV engine. Features of Push mowers are effective for 1/4 of an acre or less on flat land. A self-propelled mower performs better on a mediumsized yard, up to 1/2 an acre or on hilly terrain. Difficult, large areas, with hills, obstacles, large spaces, wet, thick or tall grasses need rear-drive self-propelled, potentially wide-cut mowers. Rear baggers are easy to empty and make the mower easier to maneuver around obstacles. Both bagging and mulching mowers require more power. Look for OHV engines. Under flange- smooth deck edge protects trees when mowing close. Look for high flow capacity and a deeper dome for better mulching performance.

14 Gas trimmers are more powerful and are the best choice for extended trimming jobs or heavy weeds and brush. Two-cycle models require mixing fuel and oil. Four-cycle models eliminate the need to mix fuel and are 30% more fuel efficient and provide more torque, run cleaner and meet more stringent air quality regulations. Look for easy loading line systems.
