Don't Strain the Drain or Landfill! Many common household products contain hazardous chemicals and should never be placed in your clear bag garbage or blue box or poured down the drain. For proper recycling, keep materials in their original containers or a well-labelled container and drop off at the HHW Depot. u Elgin Mills Community Environmental Centre 24 Elgin Mills Road East Highway 7 Hazardous Waste & Electronics Recycling Depot (Rodick Road, South of Miller Ave.) Unwanted Electronic Waste Electronics and batteries are not accepted in curbside garbage or blue box! Unwanted, non-working or obsolete electronic products can be dropped off at the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) & Electronics Depot, ensuring that your end-of-life electronics are recycled in a responsible manner. Household batteries are accepted at Markham Recycling Depots, community centres and libraries. 6

11 Clear Means Clear! Garbage must be placed at the curb in a clear bag! Using clear bags for garbage keeps collectors safe from injuries and supports Markham's Mandatory Dark, white or tinted bags are NOT accepted! Separation Bylaw. Clear bags containing recyclable material such as, electronics, batteries or textiles may not be collected. Did You Know? ü Diapers (baby/adult) ü Feminine hygiene products Pet wast These items go in the green bin - not the landfill! Use clear plastic bags for excess organic material, like shredded paper and place beside your green bin. Be a Neighbour ü Kitty litter Paper towels/tissue ü ü Bulky items, such as toilets and mattresses, that cannot be re-used or donated, are collected as garbage. Place items at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on your regular clear bag garbage collection day and NO EARLIER than the night before. Broken appliances and large metal items require scheduled collection.
