8 Environmentally friendly Circuit Breaker: Less is more! Rely on quality! The enhanced 3AP1 version relies on the same proven technology (with more than 17 years of operational experience) with optimizations in circuit breaker design and manufacturing. More than 40,000 live tank breakers (100kV-252kV) have been delivered to 110 countries during the last 17 years. Tested according to latest international standards (IEC, ANSI, GOST, ). With a leakage rate of < 0.1 % p.a. Siemens breakers are even below IEC standards (max. 0.5 % p.a.). Reduce life-cycle costs! SF 6 reduction of 20 % compared to its predecessor (reduced efforts for SF 6 handling and taxes). Improved filling connection avoids loss of SF 6 while installation process. Long intervals between maintenance (visual inspection after 12 years, maintenance after 25 years) Reduced masses of the circuit breaker allow for reduced and more economical foundation designs. Same footprint / mounting configuration for the new redesign. Have it convenient! Minimized delivery times of 2 months for standard configurations. Easy installation and commissioning within 1 day without any special tools or equipment. The shipment leaves the factory fully pre-assembled and routine-tested, making further tests on site unnecessary. Choice between porcelain or composite insulators. Both variants are fully interchangeable. 9 Environmentally friendly Circuit Breaker: Why vacuum and not SF 6 substitutes? For high voltage circuit breakers there is a gas needed which provides isolating as well as arcing extinction functionality. SF 6 is excellent in both aspects. Starting in the 1970 s with an EPRI program in the US, numerous research and development work on alternative gases have been done worldwide with limited success. The alternatives either cope with isolating purposes or with arc extinguishing only. In the 1990 s Siemens tested alternative gases and gas mixtures (SF 6 /N 2 ; CO 2 ; N 2 ). None of these gases came close to the capability of SF 6. Especially the rate of rise of recovery voltage after current zero was limited to non-acceptable values. Therefore Siemens decided to continue with SF 6 and to develop the vacuum technology as an alternative. Page 9 Source: H.
